About Gambledown Farm
This historic farm dates back to 1875 and stretches over an incredible 270 acres. It nudges the borders of the New Forest National Park, which makes for plenty of great days out. There's also elegant Winchester, 30 minutes away, world-famous Stonehenge within 35 minutes, and the Dorset beaches within a modest 45 minute drive.
The glamping safari tents are set at the top of the field with views over the Hampshire Downs and Salisbury Plain, the best of two counties.
The safari tents stretch across the site, sleeping six and including en-suite facilities for an extra luxurious stay. Inside each is a log burning stove, kitchen area with sink, gas hob and cool box - plus there's a BBQ outside for those summer evenings.
Guests sleep in a large master bedroom with a king-sized bed, plus there's a second bedroom with twin beds and a sweet cupboard bed that sleeps two children.
Meet the shorthorn beef cattle that calve each April, and in the spring, there are lambs to bottle feed.
You can also enjoy regular pizza nights and stew pots, giving guests a flavour of the farm. There is also a barrel sauna available to hire.
Located on a private road, it's fantastically safe for playing children who won't have to worry about passing traffic. Surrounding Gambledown is woodland and a living willow tunnel that brings alive the beauty of a stay in nature.
Dogs are welcome to join you at this site with up to two well-behaved dogs per tent. However, please ensure that they are kept on a lead at all times.
Gambledown Farm is open from 01/04 to 30/10.

A note from the site themselves...
Having grown up in South Africa and lived with my husband under canvas in Africa for two years, we wanted to share the 'glory of glamping' with a mixture of arable and livestock.
My husband, Richard, is passionate about the health of our soil and has introduced mob grazing and directly drilling methods to the farm. This has significantly increased wildlife on the farm - we've seen hedgehogs and barn owls.
We love that guests get to relax, enjoy being in a soothing natural environment and can show their children a friendly, working farm.
An African style safari tent with an ensuite, a king sized bed, second bedroom with twin beds and a cupboard bed. Access to second bedroom through master. Living, dining and kitchen areas and a log stove.
4 x Safari Tents
Max 6 people
Sleeping up to six, these African style safari tents include an ensuite, a king sized bed, second bedroom with twin beds and a cupboard bed. All include living, dining and kitchen areas as well as a wood burning stove.
Very well set up - very safe for children as no cars allowed onto field itself, but don't worry as wheelbarrows provided to move luggage.
The site was very peaceful, except the noisy cow who, on the first night, provided great amusement. She had been removed by our second night! Huge cool box with frozen water bottles provided so easy to keep things chilled. Great shower and very well laid out and supplied kitchen area. Lovely decking to sit out on and huge fire pit to toast marshmallows. They seem to have thought of everything.
We did not use any of the food options as we decided to BBQ every night so cannot comment on those. Good sized kettle BBQ and utensils provided. The 4 and 2 year old just loved it, including their bedroom "in the air" and being able to wander around the field. Looking after Henny Penny the chicken was a huge bonus, especially when we got back from Paulton's Park to discover she had laid an egg!
So pleased we chose Gambledown over a hotel - it really made the break. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Safari Tent - Safari TentsApr 2024
Gambledown Farm is a calm and relaxing place. The family and staff were all very welcoming and friendly. They've thought of everything we could need and we were even invited to help feed the new baby lambs.
Be prepared to get into the spirit immediately and use a wheelbarrow to get your things to the tent (this was great fun and the kids enjoyed a little ride). This is glamping, not camping (there's a shower and wood burner in the tent), but it still has the camping feels (in April we had hot water bottles to keep warm and you can hear the birds sing in the morning).
At the end of our stay we had clear instructions for checkout. We were a bit rushed for time as there is quite a bit to do, but it is a lot less than camping and brings it to a nice close. We said goodbye to the chickens and pigs as we left!
We had a day out at Poultons Park, it's well situated for that.
We recommend a stay at Gambledown Farm for families wanting some relaxing family time. It's great for enjoying marshmallows around the fire, running around the field and saying hello to farm animals.

Things to do on site and in the Romsey area
There's plenty of room here to play and get active or even get competitive with a round of team games. Finish every day with a visit to the horse, pigs and rabbits and say hello to some spindly legged new calves if the season's right.
A small shop onsite with beef, lamb and pork is available, so there's no excuse not to cook up something delicious in your safari tent and feast the night away.
Just south of where you are staying, the New Forest is an absolute delight for walking and cycling routes. There are too many picture postcard villages to count and this is a place where wild horses roam freely.
A few villages away is a stream that is perfect for a freshwater dip, and there are tennis courts to try out on the village green. Don't miss the National Trust's Mottisfont Abbey, which is a grand setup with a very tasty cafe, or catch your own tasty morsel at the Woodington Fishery, which is 10 minutes away in the car. Another unmissable stop is Salisbury Cathedral, home to the Magna Carta.
Paulton's Family Theme Park is a handful of miles away and has rides especially for little ones, plus fun entertainment for all the family.
