Wild Swimming

Woodrow's top ten swimming lakes

The Wild Swimming book was one of our favourite Epic Campetition prizes and with summer really heating up now, what better way to cool off than with a relaxing lake swim?

Here are ten of Woodrow's favourites!

  • Crummock Water is a swimmer's jewel in the Lake District where water sports are banned and there are plenty of easy access points along the shore.
  • Hatchmere is a small lake in Delamere Forest in Cheshire which warms up quickly and is great for families looking to relax on a hot day.
  • Loch Ness is cold and deep but it's exciting to swim while keeping an eye out for Nessie!
  • Loch Lomand is the largest lake in mainland Britain and has plenty of great bathing spots to go with the wonderful views.
  • Llyn Idwal is an absolutely stunning blue glacial lake in Snowdonia, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery.
  • Hanmer Mere is a fresh and warm lake in Shropshire and has a lovely little sandy bay you might even get all to yourself.
  • Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake, full of awesome swimming beaches and hidden spots to take a dip.
  • Buttermere is another Lake District gem - quiet, peaceful and perfect for those new to outdoor swimming.
  • Semerwater is Yorkshire's second largest lake and is a fantastic location for a refreshing dip.
  • Wastwater is a truly stunning and remote swimming spot, the Lake District's deepest lake.
