Summit Camping is a family friendly and dog friendly pop-up site, believed to be the highest campsite in Cornwall at the foot of Kit Hill climb. Pitch your tent or hire a cosy bell tent and enjoy 400 acres to explore with a quarry and lake suitable for wild swimming. Set in the Tamar Valley AONB, there's a licensed café just up the road and you're ideally placed near the Devon/Cornwall border.
"No frills, just a field with plenty of room for camping!"
20-40 minute drive to Dartmoor National Park, Bude and Looe
Views over the Tamar Valley with access to Kit Hill and a network of footpaths
Offering dramatic views over Cornwall's Tamar Valley, this campsite is an eight acre field offering basic but spacious non-electric grass pitches for tents. There are also three non-electric pitches suitable for motorhomes. If glamping is more your style, there's a 5m bell tent available for hire that sleeps two. Inside is a double airbed, kettle and cooking equipment. Outside is a picnic table and space for a car. Bedding is not provided, so please remember to bring your own! Dogs are not permitted inside the bell tent, sorry. Bring an awning/gazebo, frisbee, kite (hold on tight) and make yourself at home. A pop up shop lets you taste the best local ingredients and a noticeboard on site provides all the best places to eat, drink, explore and swim. An experienced team are always on hand to answer queries and make sure your Cornish stay is one to remember. The site is based very close to distinctive Kit Hill, so why not take a hike to the top (or take the car, if feeling leisurely) and experience the 360 degree views from 1,340 feet above the sea. The site also provides direct access to a country park with 400 acres of wildlife to discover, perfect for family days out. Bodmin and Dartmoor, plus Looe and Bude beach, are all within 40 minutes by car.
Summit Camping is open from 24/06 to 14/07 and 17/07 to 21/08.

Explore Kit Hill Park for free and see if you can spot some Cornish ponies. The area is great for bird watching- look up for birds of prey.
Many great adventure options locally too - Tamar Trails, Adrenalin Quarry, Trethorne, the lakes at Sybleyback and Roadford, Neolithic stones a stone's throw away in Darite and standing stones at Minions. All these are local and free!
This is Poldark country of course, so you will see evidence of Mining history all around you even in the field and up the hill.
The Tamar Valley also has a rich farming history and the unspoilt landscape. Why not try the train ride Plymouth - Penzance? Catch it at Gunnislake Station down the road.
Take the kids to the local donkey park with its play barn. Lots of local great villages and Tavistock market town just 20 mins away or Plymouth, home of the Barbican and Hoe just 25 mins away. Fantastic beaches from 30 mins away and Land's End two hours away. Don't forget Devon, too!
