Nice, peaceful site

This is a neat, clean, peaceful site. Large hard standing pitches surrounded by manicured grass with EHU and water provided for each pitch. Secure site, protected by electronic gates with entrance and exit controlled by code. Toilets, showers and washing up facilities do need upgrading, though. Only a short drive into the beautiful and interesting historic city of Chester. Shop, Greggs and Starbucks only a five minute walk away. Cafe on site, but this is not open on Mondays.

Nice little site

Lovely little campsite. Tents are on grass, in the middle of the site. Large pitch sizes with electric and water. Staff very friendly, toilets are basic but very clean. Looks like they are building a new shower block which would be a great asset to the site. Yes, you can hear the traffic, at night, from the busy road behind the campsite but it didn’t bother us at al we slept really well. Dog walk straight off the campsite and Chester is only about a 7min drive away. We will definitely return.

Handy place for a stopover

Excellent experience. The only downside is if you don't like traffic noise, it's not for you. There is a main road and motorway nearby, I'm deaf as a door post so it was OK for me! Café onsite did a great breakfast.

Unfortunately we can not control the traffic noise (although we have tried to minimise where possible, extra fencing, shrubs) and we do advise guests of our location, ideally situated for Chester/ North Wales/ Liverpool so some road noise is to be expected. The food is excellent in the onsite Café, the breakfast is a great choice, glad you enjoyed it!

Very good value

Lovely site, great staff, very helpful. Easy access to cycle path and bus stop in opposite if you want to visit Chester. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely little site

Lovely little site. The lady that greeted us was very friendly. Toilet/shower block was clean and lovely and warm, which was a nice touch at this time of year (February). We had read that the site was quite noisy with road noise but, although road noise was present, we didn't find it disruptive or excessive. All in all, a great little site and at £30 a night, very good value for money in the current climate. Bus ride to Chester was £2 each and took about 15 mins. We would definitely stay here again 👍

Very noisy road

Pleasant place to stay. The road is very noisy, we didn't sleep well. Felt it was too pricey at £30 a night with all that noise from the road. Breakfast at the onsite café was nice but felt it was also a bit pricey.

Nice site

Very nice site. Pitches are nice and level and the site seems well looked after. Nice, clean café, the food we ate was decent. Only criticism, and it's a very small one, would be the noise from the adjacent main road.

Site was nice

Not worth £30 a night. Site was nice but for £30 a night, I would expect better shower and toilet facilities. Plus, signs stating you clean the toilets everyday next to 3 month old cobwebs was a stretch.

Traffic noise

The site is sandwiched between a motorway and a really busy A road. With only a fence and hedge between us and lorries all night long, we could not sleep and had to abandon our stay after 2 nights. I understand that the campsite cannot change this but it is nice to know upfront what to expect.

Quiet campsite

The campsite was quiet and secure. Well kept grounds. Our only concern was the toilets and shower. Only 2 toilets and not always clean.

First time campers

Easy to find campsite and the campsite owner was very helpful. Clean facilities on a nice peaceful site, with a nice place to walk your dog at the back of the campsite. Café onsite and the petrol station on the roundabout are helpful. Would definitely use again!

Last minute, local Easter break

We stayed here purely because campsites in the Lake District were flooded and the children were so excited about camping, we felt we had to go somewhere, so this was very much a last minute booking. We weren't bothered about the traffic noise as it is what it is and we know the local area as we are only 30 mins away. Being 30 seconds away from the cycle path is also great for exploring. What I am unsure about is that the campsite says the toilet block has recently been refurbished? I really don't see how as it was very dirty all of the time and certainly not somewhere I would shower or have my children shower. For example, the flush buttons on both toilets were missing, there was a crack in the shower tray which looked like it had never been cleaned and the area was generally mucky. I know camping is camping, but it can certainly be improved upon. Even the patio outside the shower block was uneven with the paving being wobbly.

We are sorry you did not find our facilities to your liking, Lucy. Our shower/toilet block are thoroughly cleaned by our in house team every day and monitored throughout the day and we do ask all guests in our arrival information to leave the facilities clean and tidy ready for the next guest to use, we also welcome guests to let us know straight away if there are any problems so we can rectify in a timely manner. We do realise wear and tear is starting to show and unfortunately our plans to rebuild a bigger shower/toilet block during the winter season have had to be put on hold due to unforeseen circumstances. Because of this, on the Wednesday and Thursday before your arrival, a new coat of paint was applied to all the walls, the doors were all varnished and the floors jet washed and cleaned with an industrial strength cleaner and coating. We are hoping to start the new facilities as soon as we get the go ahead without causing too much disruption to guests. We would like to reassure you that guest satisfaction is always our top aim, happy guests makes a happy Oakwood Farm.

Bad

Was not at all what I was expecting. Nothing really to do there, other than sit in your tent. I felt that the service from the staff was bad too.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay Lilimai, it is certainly not what we want. We do realise that different guests expectations vary from one to another but we are a very small quiet site, which is reflected in our write up and facilities. However, we are only 10 minutes away from the major attractions in the area, historic Chester, Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks Designer outlook village with the North Wales coastline and The Wirral Peninsula only 30 minutes away. We are not quite sure as to which service from our team you found bad, we pride ourselves in being a friendly team and we are always happy to help wherever possible and always enjoy interactions with our guests. Our office is open 7 days a week and when not manned, there are contact numbers on the office window and in the arrival email, which is sent to every guest automatically on the morning of arrival just in case you arrive after the office has closed. This includes your pitch number and other site information to help you settle in and relax. If we fell short on any customer service this time we wholeheartedly apologise and are sorry we did not have the chance to put it right.

Lovely little site

Plenty of good correspondence from the owners after booking and leading up to the visit. Very good welcome on site and no trouble accessing the pitch. Sliding access gate with key code is a very good security feature. Pitch was a good size, level, well-marked and perfectly adequate for our large twin axle and vehicle. Electric and fresh-water hook-up was ideal - but would have been better if it also had a waste drain too. Soakaways in the hedge were instructed to be used but a small drain to these soakaways would be better. The site is perfect for the M56 and access into Chester - but that does come with a certain amount of road noise continually through the night. We were unfortunate in that emergency vehicle sirens passed right behind us later into the evening. Nothing the owners can do about that. Minor criticism in the toilet blocks - the gents lighting could be improved. Never used the one shower in the gents as used on-board facilities thanks to the water hook-up.

Lovely enclosed little site

Lovely enclosed little site, perfect for if you have runaround kids like I do. Plenty of space. Toilets and showers are clean, though if you hate spiders please don't look up 😂 Overall a brilliant stay.

Great location

A fantastic location with helpful friendly staff. A small campsite which is well looked after. The toilet block could do with another shower, sink, a mirror, some hooks and shelves. We had to queue to wash and there’s nowhere to put your shower/makeup products. The tea room was lovely with tasty food. Overall a lovely campsite which I would use again.

Good location

Good location, because of the proximity to the main road. Traffic could be heard but that didn't bother us. Toilets were clean. Had a lovely stay and would return. Small site, so no play area for children but there are parks a few minutes away in a car.

Great little campsite

Great campsite for visiting the local area and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities were good. Only one shower each for male and female but it worked as it's only a small site. Site was clean, tidy and well maintained.
