Clitheroe is overlooked by a 12th century Norman keep, and there is a museum housing the North West Sound Archive of 9,000 recordings made in the area.

You can find words written inspired by this part of the world, in the Brontë Parsonage Museum in the picturesque village of Haworth - the museum is in the house where Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights were written.

The River Ribble borders the site, offering good walks and fishing opportunities - ask at reception for information on day permits - while the Forest of Bowland also provides a wide range of unspoilt landscapes to explore.
