You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to extensive stretches of sandy beaches and stirring sea breezes. The most popular seaside resorts include Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes, all offering fantastic beaches and the usual mix of traditional seaside entertainment.
Other superb beaches include Anderby Creek, Huttoft, Moggs Eye and Sutton-on-Sea.
Family thrills abound at Fantasy Island in Skegness and Pleasure Island Theme Park in Cleethorpes.
The Lincolnshire Wolds are a stunning landscape, set between the town of Lincoln and the coast. Much of the region has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the beautiful chalk hills of the Wolds offer superb exploring, whether on foot, by bike or on horseback. The 69-mile Lindsey Trail is particularly popular.
The 147 mile Viking Way takes walkers through the Wolds and the Lincolnshire Limewoods, as well as taking in some of the best sights throught the city of Lincoln and the market town of Horncastle. Fortunately those who are less ambitious can enjoy walking shorter sections.
The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway at Ludborough is the county's only full sized steam railway and a great way to see the area, while poetry lovers should visit Somersby - Tennyson's birthplace.
Don't miss the Dambusters Memorial at Woodhall Spa either.
The city of Lincoln has much to see, including Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral. The castle is an awe-inspiring sight, and nearly a thousand years old. Construction work began in 1068 and today the castle offers a fascinating glimpse into the past - home to the Magna Carta, among other things.
For a taste sensation, the Lincoln Sausage Festival is held at the castle each October. Visitors tuck into upwards of 30,000 sausages and it's not to be missed if your timing is right.
The Lincolnshire Food Festival at the county showground just outside the city is also guaranteed to whet your appetite. Foodies should be sure to sample the award-winning Lincolnshire Poacher cheese.
Elsewhere in the city, Steep Hill has some interesting boutique shops to explore, while Doddington Hall and Gardens is a nice place for a stroll.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary at Skegness is well known for rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured seals that have become stranded on local beaches. It's fascinating to see the different stages of the seal pups' recoveries. There are other animals at the sanctuary too, including penguins, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, koi carp, tortoises, tropical butterflies and a variety of sea life.
Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary is good fun too, while Donna Nook National Nature Reserve shows the seals in a more natural habitat, covering more than 6 miles of the Lincolnshire coastline between Saltfleet and Grainthorpe Haven. The seasonal pup viewing area there is open from late in October through December.
The stretch of unspoilt coastline at Gibraltar Point is another wildlife haven.
Animal lovers should flock to the Parrot Zoo at Boston, which houses not only parrots but a variety of other birds as well as mammals such as meerkats, coatis and a range of reptiles too. Woodside Wildlife and Falconry Park is worth a visit too, with otters, wallabys and white wolves. The park also offers experience days, giving a chance to handle, train and fly birds of prey.
Allcomers will enjoy testing their skills on a ropes course at High Ropes Adventure in Market Rasen, or if a need for speed is in order, race to the On Your Marques model car museum which has a host of model cars and other vehicles, with Scalextric racing to get your competitive spirits going.
If it’s magnificent architecture you seek, Belton House (National Trust) is sure to please. The stunning 17th century house is accompanied by beautiful gardens and an impressive deer park. There is also an outdoor adventure playground to keep the kids amused.
Combining art and architecture, Burghley House near Stamford has an incredible collection of artwork as well as a modern sculpture park in its expansive grounds. Tattershall Castle built in the 15th century, and the 16th century Grimsthorpe Castle Park and Gardens are also both sure to delight.
History lovers might enjoy learning about the life of 1950s trawlermen at the National Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby. Or perhaps a visit to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre which houses a range of aircraft and other wartime vehicles.
If your travels are making you thirsty, a brewery tour at the award-winning Batemans Brewery near Skegness is sure to go down well too.
