Apr 2023

It had been raining really heavily for about 5 days before I arrived, so I wasn't hopeful of good weather! I had a huge choice of pitches for my small tent, so chose one in the woods, but close-ish to toilets. The rain stopped and the first night I think there may have been just me. Good Friday was an incredibly hot day and loads arrived, but there was still plenty of space all around. There were a few toilet blocks which were cleaned throughout the day and also washing up areas. I can't vouch for the showers as I didn't use them but others did and seemed happy. it was great to be actually allowed to have a fire and boxes of firewood were available for a small charge. Some people braved the wild swimming area but it looked far too cold for me to try it, but changing huts were there for those who were brave. There is also a shooting range, but I didn't have a go and small quad bikes for hire, but again I didn't use this. The site itself is huge with about 2 fishing lakes and a separate one for swimming or paddle boarding. Site was clean and tidy and a small shop sold basic supplies. Staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The sky at night was just unbelievable and I swear I could see the Milky Way as there is just no light pollution. Although it did get busy, there is plenty of space to pitch your tent so you don't have loads of other tents, which was nice. it's a shame I was only there for 2 nights but I had other things planned, or else I would have stayed. I will definitely go back and stay in the same spot again if I can as it was just perfect.

A great back to basics site

Small Tent - Lakeside Non Electric Grass Pitches (Small)Feb 2024

The staff were genuine, friendly and helpful. This is a nature lover's and/or fishing lover's kind of site. No luxury, but the spaces between each pitch give you a sense of wild camping away from anyone else.

Nice secluded site

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (Meadow)Oct 2023

I had planned to stay two nights but on the day I arrived, it had rained heavily all day and the road just outside the site was blocked by floodwater. I had to go round on a detour to approach from the other direction. The site is in a lovely secluded spot, the owners are friendly and facilities clean and well appointed. I only stayed one night in the end, mainly due to my work taking me elsewhere but also because of the sodden ground. Not the fault of the site at all. I imagine in better weather the site will be lovely. Definitely a dark sky location too! I will come back at some point. Nice place.
