A note from the site themselves...

Since tying the knot in 2021, we have been on a quest to find the perfect spot in the South West to start our campsite. In March 2023, our daughter-in-law, Ellie, told us about a charming location nestled in the Marshwood Vale. Spread across 8.5 acres of farmland, encouraged by our friends and family, we wasted no time and went to see it for ourselves!

The moment we saw Old Bidlake farm, we were smitten. It perfectly aligned with our vision and values. I, Emily, have always found joy in festivals, retreats, and camping adventures. As an emotional resilience coach and meditator, I enjoy working with individuals and groups. Simon and I have organized numerous retreats and well-being days.

Additionally, I am a trained massage therapist and reiki master so I am excited to offer on-site sessions in our treatment room (or as we affectionately call it, the Potting Shed). Simon has taught woodworking in an educational setting whilst prioritizing student well-being. Deeply committed to building community and leading mindful woodwork sessions for small groups.

Both of us find solace in nature, whether it's birdwatching, meditating by the beach, or growing a vibrant garden. Our beloved cocker spaniel, Rosy, accompanies us on our adventures and enjoys cosy evenings at Old Bidlake Farm.

At Bidlake, we're crafting a serene oasis amidst life's chaos, inviting guests to unwind in nature's embrace. Explore Dorset's countryside, indulge in massage or reiki, and participate in onsite workshops, sound baths, or meditation classes. We can't wait to welcome you to our campsite, Simon and Emily

A beautiful orchard with friendly and helpful owners. Amazing dark skies for viewing the stars and really well kitted out kitchen and living areas. Easy access to beautiful walks and shores.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

We had an amazing time at this campsite! Simon, the host, gave us a warm welcome and even took the time to give us a tour of the site. The campsite itself is beautiful and spacious, with well-designed communal areas. You can tell a lot of thought has been put in to the little touches to enhance your camping experience, for example, an undercover kitchen area stocked with pots pan etc. We thought the shelves which people could leave bits for the next campers was a fantastic idea and very handy! Simon was always available with a smile to answer any questions we had or provide us with tips about the local area. I highly recommend this campsite and I'm already looking forward to coming back in the future.

Site's response

Wow, thank you for the great review. Come back soon. We loved having you here.

For some it's just all about the camping, especially young children, who can think of nothing more exciting than cooking dinner over the campfire, going on bug hunts with newly acquired friends and staying up late with mum and dad, watching out for shooting stars.

There is plenty of safe, level space on the camping field for riding bikes, playing ball games and flying kites. If the weather is unkind there are books, games and craft items in the campers snug

You can also book activities such as massage, reiki, sound baths, morning meditation and even spoon carving.

The picture postcard village of Symondsbury is within walking distance, where you'll find a cross-country bike trail and numerous walks, including the ascent of the iconic landmark, Colmers Hill. You can soften your descent with a trip to the local pub The Illchester Arms or the delightful Manor Yard Café.

Other nearby activities include:

  • Bidlake Riding Stables (next door)
  • Bridport (10 minutes)
  • Furleigh Estate winery (10 minutes)
  • Seal's Cove Adventure Centre (10 minutes)
