About Penwarne Campsite

Surrounded by a patchwork of pastures and beaches with sprinkles of landscaped woodland, Penwarne Farm offers guests a blissful escape from the 21st century having stolen the hearts of many visitors who return year after year, waking up to the sunrise and panoramic sea views out to Falmouth Bay and inland to Pendennis Castle. Nestled amongst picturesque Cornish countryside, near the Helford Peninsula, Penwarne is proud to be one of Cornwall's oldest campsites and blessed to be located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Mann family has worked the land since 1886 and has been welcoming happy campers since the 1920s! If you want camping on the coast, this Cornish farm offers an idyllic setting positioned on a footpath to Meanporth beach (around a 30-minute walk away). It overlooks the sea with panoramic views across Falmouth Bay - providing the perfect backdrop to an authentic Cornish farm holiday. With over eight beaches less than a ten-minute drive away, you will be spoiled for choice! You'll be pitching up in a peaceful setting on a working farm, ideal for laid back holidays with plenty of room for the children to run around and a great escape for couples or groups wanting to explore the coastline. During high season, the pitches are marked out for 16amp electric hook-ups. If electric is not required, there is plenty of room for grass pitching in the front of the field. The area is home to an array of wildlife such as pheasants, bats, kestrels and buzzards. Well behaved dogs welcome, provided they are kept on a lead at all times as the site sometimes has their friendly cattle grazing in the field.

Penwarne Campsite is open from 29/03 to 31/10.

A note from the site themselves...

Penwarne Barton is a working farm, where we have cows, sheep, chickens, pheasants and peafowl on the farm. You may also see our working cats, Bayley and Guinness.

We love animals and we know that your pets need a holiday too! Cornwall is a fantastic destination if you are planning on bringing the whole family, including four legged friends, and we look forward to welcoming you soon, Paul

FAQ

Check-in is from midday until 7pm for camping/touring and you must vacate your pitch by 11am on day of departure.

Up to three dogs are welcome per pitch, provided they are kept on a lead whilst onsite, as it is a working farm.

Campfires are permitted but must be kept raised off the ground, so as not to damage the grass, and well-supervised.

The playpark here includes a slide, climbing frame and swings to keep the little ones entertained, and the farm cafe sells a variety of food and drinks for the whole family to enjoy. There are no less than eight beaches within a ten minute drive from the site, and a footpath from the campsite takes you straight to Meanporth Beach, plus there's a variety of other family attractions nearby including: *Trebah Gardens (2.1 miles) *Orca Sea Safaris (5.5 miles) *Cornish Seal Sanctuary (6.4 miles) *Flambards Theme Park (12 miles)

The site will always try to pitch group bookings together. For non-electric pitches, that's rarely a problem. Due to the layout of the site (see the site plan) with hook-up pitches at the top of the field and the rest of the field used for non-electric, where there is a mix of the two, groups will be pitched close-by but not side-by-side.

Awnings are not permitted. Gazebos and pup tents can be brought for a small nightly charge.

The site is close to Falmouth and the North Helford AONB. Visit Falmouth for the Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle for history, or take a boat trip down the Fal River.

In the summer, Falmouth gets excited for the Oyster Festival, the Sea Shanty Festival and the Tall Ships, all sure to keep guests entertained. Perhaps the most impressive is Falmouth Week, during August, when the Red Arrows usually visit and the town comes alive with celebration.

There is a footpath direct from the site down to Meanporth beach.

You will find a choice of local boat trips and charters that can take you and the family out to see the local seals, dolphins, sea birds and, recently, Minky Whales have been spotted off the coast of Falmouth!

The South West Coast Path is only a mile away as are the gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan. Explore the local creek side villages of Port Navas and Gweek, which is home to a seal sanctuary.

You can eat out in the numerous restaurants in Falmouth or explore the local village pubs. It's a good idea to grab a pasty and eat it on one of the quays while you watch a hive of water activities go on.

Cornwall is famous for its beautiful beaches with good reason. A great day out can be had at Gyllyngvase and Swanpool where paddle boards can be hired or if you are feeling energetic, walk to Meanporth, the closest beach to the site, and hire out a kayak to explore the clear blue Cornish waters.

Helford Passage is a must-see, so hire a boat to explore the river, go crabbing off the pontoon or take the ferry to the other side. All these activities are ideal for a family day out without having to travel far.

Other nearby attractions include:

  • Trebah Gardens
  • Pendennis Castle
  • National Maritime Museum
  • Glendurgan Gardens
  • Cornish Seal Sanctuary
  • Orca Sea Safaris
  • Flambards Theme Park
  • Kynance Cove
  • The Eden Project
  • St Michael's Mount
  • Paradise Park
  • The Lost Gardens of Heligan
  • The Tate Gallery
