VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding PitchesMay 2024

This campsite is in a great location with easy direct access to multiple paths up into the hills or to the reservoir right on the doorstep. We did a great circular hike to the summit of Helvellyn. We also used the bus stop which is right outside to go to Keswick and Ambleside which was really handy. The pitches are no frills but with a fantastic backdrop of the hills. Facilities are fine and clean. There's also the pub right next door. We had a meal and drinks at different times which were all great and the staff were very friendly. There is quite a lot of traffic noise at the site is on a busy road but it quietened down in the evenings and really didn't bother us.

Very proper but rural

For 1-2 nights to explore the region is it perfect. Bus stop is close to the camping.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesMay 2024

This is a lovely, tidy campsite at the foot of Helvellyn and many other fells. Perfect for those loving to hike. The site is truly remote in the sense that there is no phone connection, which was lovely. The pub next door has excellent food and wifi. The toilet, shower and washing up area was tidy and clean throughout our stay. The site is next to the A591 which wasn’t a problem for us as there was little traffic during the night, however not ideal for those looking for total peace and quiet.

Small site near Ambleside

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesMay 2024

The pitches were very good with water and electricity close by. Shower and toilets were basic, but well maintained and clean. The owner was very helpful and made you feel welcome. The site is very central for walks and has a bus stopping close by. This gets you quickly to Grasmere or Keswick. There is a pub next door. The big problem is a very noisy road very close by, therefore low location mark.

Absolutely fabulous location. Across the road, Thirlmere is a 5 minutes walk. Up the hill, Helvellyn is a 4 hour walk. Woodland up the road by 300m, and is a great little circuit. Quiet, with occasionally noisy bikes whizzing past. Respectful campers. Washing up water too hot for kids. Showers spotless toilets spotless. What an awesome stay.

Convenient location

Nice site in a convenient central location. Facilities are more basic, but very clean and well maintained. Shower had plenty of hot water. Some road noise but not excessive. Easy access for Keswick or Helvellyn, and there is a pub on the doorstep.

Located on the main road, which isn't busy at night so nice and quiet. There is a stream running between the bays and the road, which seemed loud but didn't hear it in the van. Beautiful 3 mile walk up the hill. Right next to a pub. My bay was flat and level. Facilities were sufficient. Plan ahead as there's no phone reception.

All the basics (shower, toilets, electric) are there. Best suited for campers and motorhomes. Convenient place next to a pub for food and Wi-Fi. Walks are great, as is the landscape. Don't expect too much luxury. Decent price. Bus stop in front of the campsite with frequent connections to Keswick and Windermere.

Lovely stay as always

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesMay 2024

This is a very basic site with a small number of pitches. However, it is always a lovely place to stay. The people that stay there always seem to be very respectful and the owners are helpful. It is conveniently positioned right next to a pub which serves nice food and drinks with a large outdoor seating area, great for sunny days. It is a short drive to many good walks and is also a short drive to Keswick town centre. I have no reason to look at any other sites when going to the lakes, as we always have the most pleasant of stays at Thirlspot Farm. The only thing to note is that the site is just off a fairly busy road, so you can expect some road noise in the morning, but this is not enough by any means to prevent me from returning.

Good value for the price. There is a good pub next door, so no need to drive. It’s next to a busy road, but there is very little traffic between 11 on and 7 AM. Good access to the NW lakes.

Good break

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesApr 2024

Great little site at the foot of Helvellyn, across the road from Thirlmere reservoir, and next door to the Kings Head pub. Cracking little spot. Good facilities on site, great connections to walks straight from the site. Bus stops bang out front to Keswick or down to Grasmere. The kings head has great beers, awesome Guinness and outstanding food. My only slight grumble (and it is slight) was the hard standing I booked wasn't fully hard standing, and being at the foot of hills in the lakes, the grass pitch to the side was really boggy. We still managed to get the awning on it, but had quite a clean up mission before packing up. In short a great site, well located, great facilities and would definitely revisit.

Grand little spot!

Quiet and beautiful spot by Thirlmere and within walking distance of Helvellyn, or a long stroll to Keswick.

Booked a hardstanding pitch, with no electric for 2 nights. The toilets were clean, with 2 showers in the female block and very warm water. Although it was very close to the road, I did not hear the traffic at night. The pub next door is very welcoming and serves good food. There's a bus stop outside the campsite where you can get to Keswick and Ambleside and the buses were very clean.

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesApr 2024

Beautiful caravan park with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Lots of reviews complaining about the busy road. There is a stream and a fence with trees which separated the road from the caravan park, and though you can hear traffic during the day, by night-time, the road is quiet. Toilets and showers were spotless. The owner was very friendly and helped us to pull our caravan onto the pitch. This is a beautiful location with valleys and mountains to be seen from the comfort of your caravan. If you venture up the hills, you can see the beautiful lake. Will definitely be back here again.

Great price and great location. Sat-Nav does take you to the farm next door initially, so watch for the Thirlspot Farm name on white sign. Showers are in an old farm building and everything was clean. I'd only add that hooks by the sinks would be handy for wash bags to go on. Pub next door did an excellent dinner. Can use their Wi-Fi before heading back to camp for the night Owner recommended a lovely walk too. Road noise that others complained of didn't bother me at all - it's not the M25.
