Medium Tent - Premium Electric Grass PitchesApr 2024
Exceptionally clean toilets and shower facilities. Brilliant washing up areas and the fridge/freezer and washing machine and tumble dryer are nice features, particularly in wetter months!
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and they were flexible when we asked to move to another pitch - nice quiet area away from the majority of the site, which we liked.
The onsite shop was great, selling all the essentials including gas cans for portable stoves etc and you could buy fire pits with logs from them. Nice additional touches of tea and coffee and pastries in the shop (plus sausage sandwich to pre order if you'd like).
Great for dogs too, with it being a dog friendly site and not too loud, so nothing to disturb them (other than the occasional rabbits and pheasants running around!)
Finally, the Wi-Fi is a great touch, especially for those wet days or if you're with kids. It worked across most of the site!
Great walks to go on directly from the campsite including up to Appletreewick to the brilliant Craven Arms pub. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful. Also, about 200 metres from the camping site there is a great café (Dales Kitchen) serving lovely food and drinks and options to pre order pizzas for the week evening (and really nice brownies!)
Overall a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend!
Wonderful location, extremely well managed and clean facilities

Medium Tent - Large Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2023
Howgill Lodge is a 'quiet' site with a mixture of tent pitches and caravan/camper hook-ups.
There are a number of very clean and well resourced toilet/shower blocks, and laundry facilities too. The staff are very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the local area.
I would recommend Howgill to people who are looking for a pleasant base from which explore the Yorkshire Dales.

Large Tent - Large Electric Grass PitchesMay 2024
Would absolutely return to this campsite. The amenities were plentiful and always clean (and exceeded my expectations for a campsite). There was plenty of info and a map received on check-in, fire pits were a great addition and the mini shop with morning coffee and pastries were much appreciated. It is a perfect location for walking (reception will print out some walking routes if you ask) and the Quiet Time rule was mostly adhered to. There is even a Brownie Barn down the lane (very short walk) that had lots of brownies, breakfast and lunch foods, smoothies and hot drinks, plus pizzas to pre-order for evening pickup.
The areas of improvement for me is to provide something to dry hands with in toilets after 10:30pm, as they turn off the hand dryers for the night. Also a bin area for those lower down the campsite, as the only one is near the reception, up the hill.
This campsite has a steep hill connecting the top to the bottom that you must climb if camping on the electric grass pitches, so please note that if you're at the bottom end of the campsite and have accessibility needs, it may not be suitable for you. Also hot water wasn't working in the nearest toilet / shower block for most of our stay, an unavoidable issue but did mean a few cold showers had to be had!
Final comment is that a lot of people did not adhere to keeping dogs on leads at all times. Not good for the nervous or reactive dogs who were kept on leads, or those who just didn't want a dog running up to them. It would be good for more reinforcement of that rule.
