Camping pods in the Yorkshire Dales

Camping pod holidays: 6 reasons it's not cheating!

If you’re a fan of camping holidays then you may well have heard of glamping, or glamorous camping. Camping pod holidays in particular are becoming more and more popular with campers because they provide a more comfortable place to stay than a tent - while still giving the experience of feeling close to the outdoors and nature.

What is a camping pod?

A camping pod is a wooden hut, normally well insulted and often with heating, lighting and power. At the top end of the market, you'll find en-suite glamping pods with your own in-house shower and loo! While camping with the kids makes a great family holiday, pod camping is an ideal escape for those seeking a few more luxuries. They're a great all year round option too, whatever the weather.

Inside a camping pod

Inside a pod you’ll find a dry and surprisingly spacious camping area that has small double glazed windows and lockable French doors. You'll have added noise protection, insulation to keep you warm in winter months prevent over-heating in summer.

Smaller pods are just for couples but larger family pods can sleep 4-5 easily. Posher glamping pods come with king size beds (bedding supplied) and underfloor heating, while cheaper camping pods are more basic and you'll be expected to bring along all of your basic camping equipment except the tent. One of the most popular brands of pod are Wigwam Holidays.

Popular pod areas

Pods are popping up all over the UK. They are popular from Cornwall to the Lake District, ScotlandWales and beyond. Why not try one near you?

Most importantly, it's not cheating!

Glamping is a popular way to enjoy an outdoorsy camping holiday with a few extra creature comforts. Some may think it is cheating and not a real camping experience but here are six very good reasons why camping pods are not cheating!

  • Apart from the top-end pods, you'll still need to take all your camping equipment with you. You just won't have to fight to put the tent up!
  • It’s a year-round option, while tent camping won't always work in cooler or wetter months.
  • It is cost efficient and great for couples or families looking for a holiday on a budget - and a great option for those looking to dip their toe in the camping water.
  • You are still able to enjoy the same slower pace of outdoorsy life and reconnect with Mother Nature.
  • You still get the same freedom of space that real camping provides.
  • You'll have tent campers for neighbours at most pod sites - and will be cooking your breakfast in the open air, just like they will!
