About Camping at Cardewlees

Tucked in a peaceful part of the Cumbria countryside, the site is set at the back of a family run, working farm. The views are spectacular, overlooking rolling farmland and Lakeland fells. Surrounded by charming villages, waterside walks and hiking trails, it is the perfect location for enjoying the outdoors. There are no predetermined pitches as the site likes to give guests the freedom to choose, helping add to the relaxed feel. There is a field that allows up to ten tents and trailer tents with up to four guests each, allowing guests to pitch up on grass without electric. For both tents and tourers, there are also 18 grass pitches available, each with a 6 amp electric hook up. Campervans, caravans, motorhomes and RVs can also opt for one of the five fully serviced, all weather pitches that are set on gravel with 10 amp electric, water hook up and a chemical disposal point. All of these pitches welcome up to eight guests each. For a little slice of luxury, opt for either one of the cosy camping pods or the tipi. Each pod comes with a double or two single beds and a double floor mattress or space for a camp bed. Each is set in an enclosed garden with a complimentary fire pit and picnic benches, great for those wanting to let their dog off the lead! Inside you will also have a small kitchen area with a mini fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave and a sink. Electric heating is included and there are power sockets for all the essential appliances. If you want to try something a little different, opt for the fully furnished tipi. Sleeping up to six, the tent comes equipped with electric, a small kitchen, cutlery and crockery. Outside you will even have your own BBQ and wood-fired hot tub! Fire pits and toasting marshmallows are encouraged. Fire pits are included with the pods or can be hired for campers. Wood can be purchased on site or you are welcome to bring your own. Dogs are also welcome too, with up to five permitted per pitch. Whole site bookings are accepted, ideal for celebrating a big occasion.

The tipi is available from April to September. All other camping, touring and glamping is open all year.

Facilities and amenities

Shared facilities include a small but well maintained toilet block with two toilets, two urinals and a separate shower room, along with baby changing facilities and a toilet with disabled access. The pods share a toilet block that includes two toilets and a shower room. There is also a washing up area as well as charging and ice pack freezing facilities available.

An honesty shop is open during peak season and there is a Spar shop just a 15 minute walk from the site for picking up all of the essentials. The closest pub is The Blue Bell Inn just a 30 minute walk away in the village of Dalston. Here there is also a fish and chips shop and an Indian restaurant as well as, a gift shop, a Co-Op and even a cycle repair shop.

A note from the site themselves...

Cardewlees Farm has been in our family since the 1900's. Opening Camping at Cardewlees has meant that we can begin to restore the farm to its former glory, and we are very grateful for this.

We think making memories with the people you love is one of the most important things in life. So, being able to combine the two is a dream come true for us. We love having campers here and already have a bank of repeat visitors who started as campers and are now considered friends.

The beauty of the surrounding area is something we take for granted, so having campers here reminds us how lucky we are. We look forward to sharing our wonderful location with you, Becki

Pod - Small Camping PodsFeb 2024

Nice and peaceful place within a working farm, very clean facilities and generous amount of space in our pod (two adults and two seven year olds). The gentleman we met at our pod was really friendly. He helped us when we got there and dropped our firewood in while we were out. The contact with the property was nice and easy with very polite messages and a very quick response. We will definitely be returning in the near future! Thank you very much.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced All Weather Touring PitchesFeb 2024

This location was great for us, splitting our journey from Kent to Scotland! The family that runs this site are fantastic and ever so helpful! The best thing is that this site is open all year round! Our experience was so good we already made a second booking for the return journey! Thank you for being a great caravan site and look forward to our next stay!
