A note from the site themselves...
The story of how our site came to be is a bit of a funny one, and we aren't entirely sure how we exactly came to the decision to be here, but alas, we are happy that we are!
We craved the countryside, cycled around many local villages, and fell in love with the area. After a good few glasses of wine and a few online searches for land for sale, that was it, our journey began.
In 2015, we collected the keys and the business building commenced. We planted up our 27 rows of lavender, whilst still working our full-time jobs, and set about starting the campsite. Since then, we haven't looked back and love welcoming all of our guests and hope to greet you soon, Julia
Grass circular pitches measuring 12m in diameter. Suitable for tents and small campervans, each including their own composting toilet, fire pit, BBQ grill for the fire pit and a picnic bench. No electric.
Background. I've camped a lot in history. But had a daughter and now she's 6, it was decided best time to see if she likes it. Her uncle and cousin were invited so we had to figure out when we could all go. This was a test for us!
Unfortunately it rained all weekend. But the girls still loved it and want to go back.
We were greeted shortly after arrival, giving us info and useful nuggets of local knowledge. We settled in for the storm ahead. The girls were invited to feed ducks and collect eggs so was a lovely touch and Julia has assisted with tips for my tent maintenance.
We loved the site. Our own toilet, spaced out. Quiet. But we were alone after 15:00 due to rain. Loved the honesty shed and would go back.
Mostly due to the rain my "negatives" were car free site so had to make a dozen trips with a giant wheel barrow to load the car, which wasn't pleasant in the rain. In summer, this would not be so much an issue lol. Recommend this site for all, but due to lack of onsite play area it would be hard to entertain children for a long period of time. My daughter, for example, when on caravan holidays goes to parks every 2 hours haha. I've suggested this as a project for them - let's hope they listen (wink wink).
Oh and you're given a picnic table fire pit and BBQ rack, making it easier as I didn't need to bring my own table and chairs for dinner times.

Medium Tent - Ensuite Grass PitchesApr 2024
We had a lovely stay over 2 nights in Deer leap. Julia was very welcoming and offered an extended stay as there was no booking for the pitch the next day. The honesty shop stocks good quality wood for the on site fire pits, which add to the camping experience. Our daughter enjoyed feeding the chickens and ducks.
Due to proximity of the site to Stanstead Airport and the road, there is some background noise, but we were looking for a campsite close to London so the compromise was worth it.
Would definitely recommend this campsite.
A beautiful stay

Large Tent - Ensuite Grass PitchesApr 2024
We stayed here for our first family camping trip with a 7 and 3 year old.
It served as the perfect hub for our main day out at Hedingham Castle, and was close enough to Colchester Zoo to make a full weekend of it. After seeing the site, setting up the tent, and looking around the facilities, we immediately booked an extra night.
The farm is stunning, with gorgeous sunset views from our pitch and a very welcome en-suite toilet. The owners were lovely and invited the kids to help with their chickens and ducks in the morning, which they loved. The fire pit and well stocked woodpile (for a fair fee) were a welcome addition, and the use of a fridge and freezer proved invaluable.
I would definitely recommend the site to anyone, and have been!
