Say hello to the chickens and ponies at Jacksmere Camping, a friendly and peaceful site welcoming tent campers on a range of flat and well maintained grass pitches. Set just a ten minute drive to the seaside at Southport, the focus is on a back-to-basics camping experience with access to numerous local footpaths, and dog friendly. A family pool is a big hit with kids on site and there's also a straw bale play area for little ones.

Yes, it might be tricky to find the place but once you are there, the host is lovely, bubbly and warm. You have the ponies that the kids are allowed to feed, a bouncy castle and if you're lucky, the kids get to go on the quad bike. The amenities were clean but could probably benefit from an additional shower. What an amazing weekend for us, will definitely visit again.

Good weekend at Jacksmere. The toilet and shower facilities could do with a bit of TLC but overall, a nice stay and would visit again.

We stayed on a very rainy night of the year so hope to come again once the sun comes back. Very helpful and kind campsite owners.

We had a fantastic weekend at Nelson Brook Farm. The owner was really friendly and helpful the facilities were great. The kids had a great time petting and grooming the ponies, paddling in the little kids paddle pool and playing with all the other kids on the bouncy slide. This is a real family friendly site with plenty for the kids to join in with. There was a charging point near the toilets for phones which was very useful. I noticed the toilets where cleaned every hour or so which was necessary because lots of kids kept running in and out using the toilet, the sink and the shower after the paddling pool with wet feet, which left mucky footprints. I was impressed that someone went in to clean after them each time and I think some of the negative comments on the reviews are probably because of this. I recommend keeping a look out for signs for 'West Barn' rather than just Nelson Brook Farm as it isn't well sign posted, you can ring the number on the booking confirmation and the owner will direct you. It is a basic campsite so again I think some of the negative comments could be people with unrealistic expectations from camping so if you go with that in mind then you will be pleasantly surprised. There was a phone charging point near the toilets and everybody was very trusting leaving their phones there, which shows how family friendly the site is. I highly recommend hiring the fire pit - the kids loved this and it was really lovely to sit up late at night toasting marshmallows and keeping warm and cosy by the fire. If you want a trip out then Ainsdale beach is about a 10 min drive, Southport 10/15 mins and Formby 15/20 mins, which is beautiful. I am already planning to re visit this site again as soon as we can and we spoke to others visiting the site who said the same. The site has a really good atmosphere, safe and family friendly and that's how I'd sum it up.

Good size field with clean showers and toilets. Sockets available for chargers and inflatables. Hot tub was filled with fresh water each day for the kids to play in. Manager was great with the dogs too, keeping them cool during the hot weather. Thanks for a great little stay.

Run down and poor facilities. Dogs were allowed to wander around and seemed to be left outside their tents at night, barking throughout the night, disturbing campers sleep
