Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild Tent PitchesSep 2023

Beautiful location, we got a pitch in the woods, which gave us a good vibe of being surrounded by nature. There were not many people (only 2 other tents in the woods) helping to immerse in the wilderness. Facilities are basic but what you can expect. The only problem we had is that there was no one to enforce any sound policies so we had to stay awake until midnight listening to a party happening in a big group of people camping in the grass pitches. With a place that offers an opportunity to immerse in the woods, it was a shame, but we are confident it was an exception and not a rule. Will definitely come back.

Site's response

Hi Joao, I'm so sorry you had that experience. We do a sweep round most nights, so we've missed this incident. I hope you do return, and when you do, please make a note of my contact number upon entering. I am available 24/7 on the phone. Luckily, most of our campers enjoy peace and quiet, but every now and again, you get the odd camper who bends the rules. Apologies again. Joanne (H.W)

Small Tent - Non Electric Wild Tent PitchesSep 2023

Can't fault the location. Ability to pitch where you want is a huge bonus. I picked a spot, quite deep into the woods as I wanted a back to basics experience, out in nature with peace and quiet under the stars. However, my stay was ruined by a very large group who had commandeered much of the open field area and were playing loud music, partying and shouting (clearly drinking a lot) from around 7pm until nearly midnight. My understanding was the campsite is not supposed to be for big groups, but as there is nobody physically staying on site to police it, it's hard to stop. I was probably unlucky with the night I picked and it wouldn't have been like that most of the time, but my advice would be for the owners to perhaps do a bit of a pass through in the evening so they could put a stop to antisocial behaviour.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesSep 2023

A magical area of woodland and heath with some enchanting places to pitch a tent. The owners have a real care for what they are doing and are working hard to support animal and plant species as well as provide semi-wild camping. Lovely to spend time in this environment and it really did feel remote, despite being walking distance from Woodbridge. Good walking in the immediate area and Sutton Hoo just over the road. One slight niggle was the traffic noise which, although distant, was a nuisance in the evening. Overall, perfect for a couple of days of being immersed in nature.

As described on website. Very low key campsite with open and wooded areas and not much else. Beautiful walks nearby and short drive to coast.

Single Axle Caravan - Non Electric Wild Tent PitchesAug 2023

Situated 1 mile from Sutton Hoo and across the road from miles of Sussex heathland to roam, Holistic Woods is located in a rural and natural spot, as we had hoped. It's No Frills but the portaloos were decent, clean enough with loo roll supplied and there is a centrally placed water tap and the whole campsite is tidy with several bins provided. The young hosts were very friendly and responsive to phone calls, and we noticed they remained on site to greet each arrival during the afternoon check in period. Supremely easy going about where to pitch up which was great! There are pine forest, woody glade and meadow areas to choose from. We chose the south east facing meadow and had a great sunset and sunrise to look at from our door. Apparently the land is owned by a private individual who is actively rewilding some to heathland which is cool. The other campers were spread out and it was great not to feel at all hemmed in. It appears to attract a real mix of lone campers, couples, young families and groups of friends. All relaxed, friendly vibes - with one whacking exception during out stay which was a large family group celebrating a birthday with flashing lights in the trees and loud amplified music from 7.30-12.30pm which was just so annoying, and too late for us to move to a pitch elsewhere - they responded aggressively when I politely asked to turn the music down a bit, so I retreated and left them to it but it did ruin the otherwise peace and tranquillity of the rural setting. We believed the hosts to be offsite and probably unable to assist so didn't call them. So my only feedback to the organisers is clearer signage for arrival - was really tricky to spot the entrance - and a clear rule about music and noise disturbance, if the campsite is to be the peaceful haven it promises on the website.

Beautifully back to nature

Beautiful setting right next to the woods. Friendly owner made us feel immediately welcome. It was so peaceful that it felt like we'd had a weeks rest when we'd only stayed for 2 nights!

Small Tent - Non Electric Wild Tent PitchesAug 2023

I had a fantastic 2 nights camping at Holistic Woods. It is in a beautiful pine forest and you can put your tent up wherever there is space in the woods. There is also lots of space in an open field if you prefer. It is a very peaceful spot with plenty of space between tents. The location is great- just across the road is heathland full of heather, and the Sandlings Way footpath. Rendlesham forest is also on the doorstep. As is Sutton Hoo. It was a little tricky to find the campsite but the host rang me and met me at the entrance. Very good value for money, I definitely hope to return!

Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild Tent PitchesAug 2023

Had a great time on our camping trip. It was amazing to camp in the middle of the forest, very peaceful and atmospheric. The only suggestion I would have would be an additional portaloo as I think having only 2 may not be enough. Can’t wait to visit again!

Site's response

Thank for your feedback, Tabitha. Another loo has been added. See you next time, Joanne.

We took a spot in the woods with our tent box and had a great time. The site feels uncommercial and you can pitch up in any clear area. The owners are welcoming. There are portaloos and a water supply, which is all you need at a site like this. We would return.

Thankyou so much for coming to Holistic Woods Campsite, Miles, and we look forward too seeing you again! Jo

Nice little hidden campsite. Very basic but that's what we were looking for. A variety of pitches to choose from. The lady that manages it was nice and welcoming. Would recommend and would come back.

Small Tent - Non Electric Wild Tent PitchesAug 2023

Had a really good night's camp. Although the weather was pretty miserable, we still really enjoyed the stay. We went as a couple but we will go back with the kids. We wanted somewhere remote and wild and that's exactly what we got. We pitched up in the middle of the woods and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the off grid feel to it. Only a few miles drive to the coast too. Nice pubs nearby and a simple drive to Woodbridge where we got a Subway. Nice hidden gem of a campsite and would really recommend.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesAug 2022

This was booked as a bit of a punt as it's a new site with no reviews. However we were really pleasantly surprised. There's a easy going approach from the owners with no marked pitches, so you park /pitch wherever works for you - several people were in the forest, but there are open clearings too. Very basic in terms of facilities, but there's running water and portaloos. It was quiet despite being fairly busy, and easy to park up somewhere a good bit away from other campers. Would recommend taking a good torch as the ground is uneven and it gets very dark at night - great for star gazing though. Well located for Woodbridge/ Rendlesham Forest. Be aware that Sat Nav may take you past the entrance (coming from Woodbridge) so keep an eye out for the turning about a mile before Sat Nav shows it on the left. We'd definitely go again!

Girls trip 😍 Newly owned and creating a campsite in lovely surroundings. We had a great time, very basic, take what you need, water tap and loos only. But exactly what we expected. Guy helped us choose a private semi wild pitch. We put up our tent under the trees with room to sit out in the sun. Pitch where you want. Just what we wanted. Lots of trees, lovely walks, river and pub close by and would return. Thanks for a lovely weekend x

We stayed at Holistic Woods for three nights, and the beauty and peace was outstanding. There is a water point and portaloos provided for campers. We had a semi wild space which suited us perfectly, loads of space and the views were stunning. The night sky was incredible as there was almost no light pollution and Suffolk is known for its big skies, which proved ideal. The site is really handy for visiting Shingle Street, which again is a beautiful place. A walk through the woods took us to the Unruly Pig for an evening meal and Sutton Heath is literally all around the site. This was a proper camping experience and we loved the fact that it doesn't have a shop or other unnecessary facilities, it is truly back to nature. We had a perfect weekend, reading, cooking and proper relaxation.I wish more sites were like this.
