Tarland by Deeside has been popular with royalty ever since Queen Victoria chose the area for her home at Balmoral in the 1850s and it remains the Queen's summer residence. This site shares the same spectacular scenery, and Balmoral's estate grounds, gardens and Castle Ballroom are open to visitors during the summer.
Tarland is a tranquil site, surrounded by immense beauty, royal history and woodland that will suit dog walkers perfectly. Lined by trees, the campsite has been carefully arranged to allow for smaller and more secluded pitching areas. Both grass and hardstanding pitches are available. Non-members welcome.

For a more traditional experience you can also enjoy the attractions of Tarland village, just a five minute walk from site. It has shops, a bowling green and golf course, and is a good starting point for walks, with open views towards Mount Keen, Lochnagar and Morven.
There are lots of local walking trails, and the old railway line between Aboyne and Ballater is a good cycle route
