A peaceful oasis within easy walking and cycling distance of the Kennett and Avon Canal, picture postcard villages and country pubs. We loved the bird life around the camp and the night skies were amazing. Loos and showers worked well and were kept very clean.

We had a fantastic break at Dark Lane. Beautiful site with well thought out amenities. Louise was a very attentive host. From our pitch we watched red kites, buzzards, hares, pheasants, a barn owl and a sparrow hawk, along with many lovely butterflies flowers and insects, and shooting stars at night. Several lovely walks from the campsite and Louise gave us tips on best places to walk in Savernake Forest. We will be back and we wish the site all the success, it was so lovely to feel like we were properly off grid. Thank you

Not too many pitches, which I like. Pitch size is good and nice space between each pitch.

We loved our stay at the campsite. The campsite owners were present regularly morning and night, making sure we were happy and had what we needed and kept the facilities very clean and tidy. There are 3 toilets and 2 showers in total, which was pleasant. The individual pitches were a good distance apart with tall meadow flowers and grass in between so it felt private. The location was easy to find and along a very quiet track/road. Plenty of wood available for campfires!

Thank you so much for your thorough review. We are so glad we have got the balance right between being present and not! Look forward to hopefully welcoming you again.

I was so happy to be camping surrounded by flowers and insects and trees and birds. The compost toilet was great, and I had a quick warm shower. I felt very well looked after - with extra treats in the cupboard and posters with advice on walking to a nearby pub.

A superb green campsite, very spacious with large patches of wildflowers in between pitches. Louise was the fantastic host showing the off-grid resources and areas. A short walk along the canal towpath or footpaths to The Swan at Wilton for evening drink and then back to sit under the stars and the peace and quick. Everything very clean, as it should be, and other campers considerate of the space and surroundings. Thanks

This has to be one of the best campsites I've stayed in. It was the little touches that made this memorable. I really felt looked after and Louise, one of the campsite owners, was very welcoming when I first arrived. It's a beautiful place with loads of wildlife and sheltered from wind. I really hope I will stay here again and would recommend to anyone who loves the quieter side of camping.

We had a lovely stay. Perfect location as was secluded, being only a 10 minute walk from the canal and a short drive/40 minute walk to an old windmill. Owner Louise was very friendly and accommodating, giving us drinking water upon arrival. The amenities were perfect, with hot showers, washing up stations and clean toilets. Overall had a great stay and will definitely be coming back!

If you are looking for a quiet site in unspoilt countryside, this is the place. It is off-grid and concentrates on being eco friendly. Each space is surrounded by a generous wildflower border. There are eco showers and toilets which are well maintained and have fresh wild flowers placed in them. For children there is a safe play area amongst the flowers away from the tents and small vans. It's extremely quiet and no light pollution so the night sky is stunning. The calls of owls are the only sound. A short walk from the site takes you to the canal for walks. I will definitely be going back.
Site's response
Thank you so much, you have summed up our little campsite so thoughtfully! I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and we would love it if you came back to visit us again! I am glad you had a clear view of the night sky, it can be absolutely breathtaking on a clear night.

I loved my weekend here. Its very laid back and the other campers had the same goal in mind, peace and quiet. There are really good walks to go on from the camp site, the pitches are nice and spacious and well maintained. What I loved most was that you're camping in a wildflower meadow essentially, surrounded by trees and the wildlife is literally on show if you watch and wait. All the owners have done is mow out the pitches and a footpath so your boundary between you and your neighbour a a wildflower border about 5-6 feet deep. This means there is an abundance of wildlife and insects which for me was absolute perfection. I loved watching the buzzards overhead, stargazing at night, hearing the call of barn owls and tawny owls, and the cry of the Red Kites during the day which were gliding less then 50 feet above our heads. The large fire pits are good value for money too and I loved the fact that we could use them. My friend and I sat up till near midnight both nights just watching the flames, putting the world to right and catching up. Louise and her husband are the perfect hosts, being so friendly, kind, informative and welcoming. They create a very laid back and relaxed atmosphere. The facilities are really good and easy to find and the only reason I put 4 stars on facilities and not 5 is because of the lack of even a small light in the toilets meaning a night time visit to answer nature's call is somewhat precarious. Even the smallest most discreet light would be helpful. I mentioned it to Louise who acknowledged it was a good point to raise. The White Hart at Burbage is an easy walk to get to and is now a Turkish restaurant which I can highly recommend (very scenic walk there over the fields and then back along the Kennet and Avon). The countryside around the campsite is beautiful - you need to visit to appreciate it. I couldn't really fault the place, I was in my element and my friend and I left somewhat begrudgingly this morning, and even then there was no hurry. Louise's husband kindly let all of us know there was no rush at all and to take our time instead of all rushing to pack up. Very chilled out and relaxed site in a stunning little part of the country. I will be returning without hesitation. Thanks for having us and see you soon!

We so appreciate you taking the time to give us such thoughtful feedback and kind comments. It was a pleasure to meet you and it is fabulous that you appreciate all the wildlife which can coexist with humans if we only respect it. Our meadow is full of wildlife and flowers because we have never sprayed the land and we try to make as little impact as possible. We have put a temporary small solar light in the unisex loo ( the other two loos have solar lights fixed on the wall) and completely take your point! It is important to have a torch when visiting us as we will always keep lighting discrete because we want to see which nocturnal animals visit us if possible! I hope you do come back and visit as it is so wonderful to welcome fellow campers who take pleasure in slowing down, enjoying simple pleasures which are so fulfilling physically and psychologically.

All good. We were surprised by the lovely setting of this campsite, wildflowers, butterflies, birds and kind people are all you wish for. Besides lovely dedicated people who run the place in the good nature of taking care of the environment, they do have fresh eggs on site.
Site's response
We hope your tour went well and are very grateful for your thoughtful review, Georgina. The lovely eggs come from the Lawn Farm Shop in nearby Milton Lilbourne.

My son and I had a lovely stay at this beautiful campsite as we tried out some more wild camping for the first time after a few glamping trips. The location is perfect - a pristine site in beautiful countryside that feels nicely off the beaten track, but which is only a mile or so from a village with a great pub (plus the windmill and Crofton Beams museum). Our pitch was a perfect size and self contained with a nice view - and the campsite facilities were excellent. Very clean and tidy loos and showers and dish washing facilities. It's a good spot for walking and cycling - we definitely plan to return!

We are so pleased you had a good stay after your glamping experince and look forward welcoming you back.

This is a secluded, very peaceful and relaxing campsite! On arrival, the owners were on site and couldn't have done more, giving us a tour of the site/facilities, suggesting local walks and helping to carry camp fire equipment to our pitch. 3 very clean compost loos and 2 showers (1 heated, 1 Wim Hof - which was very refreshing after a night in the van!) between the small number of pitches this campsite has was more than enough, so no queuing. There is also a covered washing up area with heated water and the opportunity to buy local eggs etc. A great campsite, dog friendly as long as controlled, pub with in walking distance along the tow path and everything we needed for one of the most peaceful nights in the van we've had! We'll be back 👍! Thanks, Rich and Ella

Arrived with a warm welcome and tour of the facilities, all very clean and beautiful location! I recommend adding a fire pit if it's a particularly chilly night like ours was!
