About Wallsend Guest House and Glamping Pods

This tranquil site is within the small village of Bowness-on-Solway, about twelve miles west of Carlisle. Fantastic for walking and cycling, the area is packed with nature and acts as the jumping off point for both the Hadrian's Wall National Trail and the NCN Route 72. Owners Barry and Michelle are locals from Carlisle and are keen cyclists. They're on hand to make your stay a relaxing one, including recommending an excellent local pub or the right cycle route. A set of furnished glamping pods make the perfect base for exploring the area. Each sleeps up to four and is toasty warm with heating and electricity supplied. Inside there are excellent beds and sofa beds, a TV and mod cons such as a fridge, toaster, kettle, sink and set of hot plates. You even have a comfy table and chairs too. If you're wanting to fully indulge, opt for one of the pods with either a two, or four person log burner hot tub. Enjoy a glass of wine whilst you unwind beneath the stars, the perfect way to spend your evening! Dogs are welcome to stay with you, but must be on a lead at all times and be cleaned up after. Whole site booking for your exclusive use is also available.

The site is open from 1st February to 1st January, although are available for special requests outside of these dates.

A note from the site themselves...

We purchased the pods from a couple who were retiring in October 2020. Our process for building the site was all done through covid so we only eventually May 2021. We were most attracted to the village life, history of the site and the part it has played over the centuries as we are located in a UNESCO world heritage site, Hadrian's Wall, and also we are in an AONB.

The site is surrounded by agricultural fields and we love having visits from owls, deer, geese and wonderful seasonal migrating birds. By location, the site is very peaceful, something we endeavour to keep, our location is remote and is great for those who need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and embrace nature.

Both of us had very busy jobs in a totally different sector to hospitality, however, we loved using our holiday time to stay in pods or small family-run establishments. One of our favourite things is meeting guests and chatting to them about our area and helping them to embrace the local area and its attractions.

Pod - Ensuite Glamping Pods with Optional Two Person Hot Tub (Pet Friendly) Mar 2024

We had a lovely stay at Wallsend Glamping Pods. The site was nice and quiet and the pods were lovely and clean with all essential items included. The area is very quiet so it's definitely a place to go and relax. Check in was easy too. Barry was great and came to meet us, he showed us around and how to use the hot tub, which was great. The hot tub was a lovely extra and is more similar to a hot bath outside, which was nice as you don't get the noise of a usual hot tub. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend to people wanting a quiet few days away.

Site's response

Thank you Sophie for the kind review. We really appreciate your feedback. Best regards Barry & Michelle.

Pod - Ensuite Glamping Pods with Optional Two Person Hot Tub (Pet Friendly) Nov 2023

Stayed in Pickhill and had a lovely and relaxing weekend for boyfriend's birthday. The pod was cosy, warm and clean. Enjoyed the hot tub was very relaxing and could see all the stars, seen some shooting stars! Went for a meal at The King's Arms, which is just down the road from the pod - had an amazing meal! Ordered takeout the next night from the Garrison Bistro, next to The King's Arms, which was great! Spent the rest of the weekend at Carlisle Castle and town, which is just a short drive away from the pod. Would definitely stay again.

Site's response

Hi Tash, thank you so much for taking the time to post this lovely review. We both greatly appreciate it and we look forward to hosting you both again. Best regards, Barry & Michelle.
