Chatsworth House

Splendid Chatsworth House is a real treat, and not just of the eating variety! This magnificent country house offers an excellent day out for the whole family, with a farmyard and adventure play area to explore as well as the beautiful grounds and the grand house itself. Afternoon tea is available daily from 3:30pm to 4pm. There is a sumptuous spread including the likes of quadruple chocolate brownies, sultana scones, elephant foot meringues and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches. Traditional afternoon tea costs £16.50 per person. Other afternoon tea options are available too, such as the Devonshire afternoon tea which includes a glass of champagne and a crayfish cocktail or the Cavendish afternoon tea which includes a glass of rosé wine. These are slightly more expensive, costing £22.25 and £18.25 respectively.

Beresford Tea Room

Situated in the pretty village of Hartington, the quaint Beresford Tea Room shares its space with the village post office. In addition to enjoying a delicious afternoon tea, you can explore the shops in the village as well as a variety of nearby attractions including the outdoor pursuits of rock climbing, walking and cycling in the surrounding countryside. You may also be keen to visit Thor’s Cave, where tools and artefacts have been found that are over 10,000 years old. Another ancient attraction includes the stone circle of Arbor Low, which is about 5000 years old. 

Scarthin Bookshop

Scathin Bookshop in Cromford offers a delight for the senses, with an abundance of posters and other interesting items on the walls, snug tables and a selection of tasty food including sumptuous slices, superb scones and cracking cakes, plus a wide choice of terrific teas. You can brush up on your holiday reading by perusing the books on offer in the bookshop and, if you’re keen to wander further afield, there are some great nearby attractions to visit. Visit the pretty Cromford Canal and the nearby village of Crich where you will find the National Tramway Museum.

Old Smithy

The picturesque Old Smithy Tearooms is located in the village of Beeley at the edge of Chatsworth Estate. As the name suggests, this tea room used to be a blacksmith’s workplace. The Old Smithy sources local produce for its menu whenever possible and baking is done on-site in order to provide the freshest seasonal food. Beeley has some beautiful walks and cycling routes in order to work up an appetite before your visit to the tea room.

Cintra’s Tea Room

Located in Hathersgate, Cintra’s Tea Room is a very pretty building from which to enjoy a tea or coffee, a selection of tasty cakes and sandwiches or scones with cream and jam. Afternoon tea for two people costs £19. There are a number of stately homes to visit in the surrounding area, including Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall and the Chatsworth Estate. Alternatively, the caverns in Castleton provide a wondrous underground experience.
