Great site

Great campsite. The facilities were very clean and well kept. On site shop has just about everything you've forgotten. The location is amazing as well. Highly recommended. We only wish we had more time to explore.

Excellent if your going up Scarfell Pike

Excellent campsite! Very clean. farm shop stocked very very well. Good pub that serves good food, 1 minute walk away.

Very pleasant stay

Very pleasant stay. Beautiful location with a great pub 2 minutes walk away. Purchased a map from the site shop with some great local walks. Friendly and welcoming staff. Would definitely stay again.

2 night break in a pod

Lovely little campsite. Very quiet and peaceful. Good facilities and clean showers/toilets. We stayed in a pod which was lovely. Close to Scarfell pike which we walked in the torrential rain 🤣

Amazing stay

Amazing campsite, beautiful location. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Toilets and showers were clean and close by. Lovely pub 2 mins walk away. We will definitely be returning.

Excellent campsite, friendly staff and great location!

Our stay in the Shepard hut was lovely! We received a warm welcome upon arrival and check-in was effortless :) The staff were always happy to help and knowledgeable on the campsite facilities and surrounding area. The camp shop had everything we needed for our stay and the campsite facilities were excellent and clearly marked on the campsite map.

Our stay

Not large enough toilet blocks for the number of people and they could’ve been cleaner. Location was fantastic. Absolutely beautiful.

Sorry you didn't feel our site had enough toilets for the number of people. We are currently well within the requirements for urinals, cubicles, showers and sinks. Despite this we will be reviewing our facilities at the end of the year, in terms of any required updates. We would also like to take the opportunity to point our that we have had zero complaints about the cleanliness of our facilities, which if you had taken the time to let us know, would have been resolved during your stay. A lovely site

A lovely site, with very friendly and helpful staff. Great location for climbing Scarfell Pike. Fantastic food at The Strands and The Saw Mill.

Great campsite

Great campsite, wonderful location, excellent staff, great for kids, we will return.

Excellent location, all bases covered

Our first time out in a motorhome and we picked lucky with this campsite. It was an excellent experience and had all the facilities we needed. The nearby shower block had loads of hot water and decent toilet facilities which meant we didn't have to use too much of our onboard equipment. Staff were great and chatty and although it didn't involve us, we were aware that a rather raucous and OTT group of lads were swiftly moved on by the owners. It is good to see that they wanted to maintain this oasis as a safe and healthy place for families. It was really good to see so many happy families enjoying time together. The nearby Strands hotel did excellent beer and food and the campsite shop was well stocked with all that might be required and some excellent local produce. All in all, every box was ticked which meant for a great weekend. Thanks Church Stile.

Perfect campsite

I loved this campsite. Stunning location. Excellent facilities. The shop had everything you need. Extremely helpful staff. Toilets and showers were very clean and in excellent condition. I will definitely return with my family.

Beautiful stay!

This campsite is in a beautiful location. Perfect for couples and families too! Facilities were always clean and the farm shop at reception is brilliant too. I would definitely return.

Great site

Great site and location. The kids loved it. Will be booking again but will be staying longer than 2 nights.

Can't wait to return

Came with my partner, two children and dog and we had a lovely time. Beautiful location, site was perfect with very clean facilities and lovely staff. Will be returning next year with an extra child ☺️ We were lucky to have clear skies during our stay and the view of the stars was absolutely incredible.

Great time

We all had a great few days at the campsite. The weather was great, which helped. Shop had a load of items for sale, in case you were caught short. Only thing that let it down were the toilets. If there had been another block, it wouldn't have been as bad, as all the campers were using one block and they were only cleaned once per day. Everything was great, the EHU, the views, the location.

Thanks for the feedback and glad you had a good stay with us. We would like to take the opportunity to point out that the toilets are checked and cleaned a minimum of 3 times a day. We also make it clear that if there are any issues with the toilet block, our guests can let a member of staff know and they will then make sure it is seen to. We will however look into the possibilities and implications of having two toilet blocks for the coming seasons. Many thanks

Overall, the campsite offers good facilities, a convenient shop, and well-maintained pitches. However, the enforcement of site rules felt somewhat strict. Shortly after 11pm, the warden approached our tent regarding noise levels, even though we were not being disruptive or loud in any way. In addition, staff regularly rode around the site on a quad bike, which at times came across as invasive and gave the impression of being checked up on. Another drawback was a persistent, unpleasant smell in one area of the campsite that did not seem to go away. These aspects detracted from what was otherwise a positive setting.

Thanks for the feedback in your review. We would like to point out that the site rules are very clear with regards to "no noise" after 11pm. We check the site and make sure that everyone is adhering to this, allowing all to have a good night's sleep. This rule is made clear during check-in, on our site and on the site rules provided to guests when they arrive. We also have to deliver firepits, collect bricks and carry out other site maintanance that requires the use of a quad and trailer. The staff do this regularly throughout the day and it is part of the day to day procedures on site. We are sorry you felt you were being watched, but this is not the case or our intention. Also, we have taken steps to rectify the issue with our onsite treatment plant, which can be the source of the smell. We are happy that you foudn other aspects of our site to your liking and glad you had a good stay overall.

Ideal stay

Stayed for one night. Planned day in mountains so ideal location if visiting Scafell Pike or west water. Quick and easy check in. Shop on site for basics which was great. Showers were clean and looked after. Two pubs at entrance to site that serve food which was ideal as only needed to bring breakfast food.

Summer holiday

The site is beautiful with amazing scenery- great if you have children as there's a nice play area. We would definitely go back.

Friendly staff, everything was very clean! Would have been nice if the showers were a little warmer but were still nice. Great walks.

Good location pub/cafe nearby

Water was often cut off. Shop, café and pub within a short walk.

Sorry about the issues with the water. We did make everyone aware of the issue during your stay and our staff were constantly resetting the pump, that was causing the issue. This was done 24hrs a day whenever the staff were notified or during one of our many daily checks.

Excellent

Brilliant campsite, friendly staff and plenty of space for pitches. Family feel environment, clean facilities and only a short walk away from the pub. Really enjoyed our stay and would certainly return.

Such and amazing place!

Amazing place to say. Right in the middles of all the hills. Beautiful views and lots of space. Even have a little shop for anything you have forgotten. Would definitely stay again!

Perfect for families

Beautiful location. Great playground. A lovely friendly welcome from helpful staff. The sewage works were smelly and could be smelt from campsite but something they were trying to resolve. We had a happy stay with lovely walks from campsite.

Great family site with amazing views

This was our first family camping trip and we had never used a permanent site before. The site is well laid out and we were given clear directions on where there was space available. The facilities block was clean and well maintained. The shop is very useful and had a good stock of essentials and treats for after a long day of enjoying the Lake District. We would definitely return to enjoy more of what the area has to offer.
