VW-Type Campervan - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Oct 2024 This is my 2nd stay at Tobacconist Farm, I'll definitely be returning. It is situated just on the outskirts of Minchinhampton, a 5 minute walk into town, with excellent access to the local bus service. There is an lovely Italian restaurant on the high street, with a warm welcome, great food, and service.
Last Friday (the 18th) I was about to leave to head to Minehead for my stepdaughter's 40th Birthday 80's weekender, at Butlins. Sadly my converted ambulance (cambulance) refused to start and run. The AA arrived and confirmed that the high pressure fuel injection pump was deceased. I let Lucy, the owner of the campsite, know of my predicament. Without hesitation, she offered to lend me her Isuzu Pick Up. She wanted nothing in return, apart from the tank filling with diesel. As she didn't want my Stepdaughter to be disappointed. I was a little bit delayed with my arrival in Minehead. More importantly, the weekend wasn't spoilt
Things like this just don't happen to me. To say I was taken aback would be an understatement! Generosity of that level is in very short supply nowadays. On my return to my van, Lucy's son sorted out an electrical connection for me, as my van was off the official site. They are both happy for me to stay, until the parts arrive and I swap them out.
Great area Recommends site
Small Tent - Paddock Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches Oct 2024 Top notch facilities. The site was well drained, we stayed after some heavy rain.
The site was very quiet, a lovely area, with lots of walks with some steep drops. The village has everything you might need, 2 cafes, a chemist, a post office, general shops and pubs etc. I would stay there again and would recommend.
Very relaxing Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Oct 2024 Stayed 4 nights at this lovely site. Huge grass pitches and no children.
Dogs were allowed to be off the lead, but under control. A lovely site, will go there again (and hope for better weather).

VW-Type Campervan - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Oct 2024 Booked 2 nights here for the end of our Cotswold trip. Lucy was great, showed us to our pitch and each one has its own water supply and electric if you want it. The facilities were very clean and showers very hot.
The village of Minchinhampton is lovely and the locals are very friendly, we will definitely be back.

Could not have wished for a better campsite Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Sep 2024 What a great campsite. We had never camped before and came in a rented Campervan.
It was very very wet weather but site was not waterlogged in any way. We were met by Lucy who could not have been more helpful to us.
The modern toilet /kitchen /drying room and/washing up block was so clean. It was warm and well maintained, it made everything so easy.
Our patch was very spacious, with hook up electric and water. It was such a short walk into Minchinhampton, which is a gorgeous little village with fab amenities. A wonderful place to stay and excellent campsite.
Not bad Large Tent - Paddock Grass Tent Pitches with Optional Electric Sep 2024 Adult only is always going to be a positive.
Local to the village, 5 min walk to the pub and you can grab a bus from there. Facilities are basic, showers turn off really quickly which is annoying. Also, signs to say which are shower rooms would be handy as everyone uses the shower room for the toilet and leaves mud in there. Overhang for outside sinks don't protect you from the rain. Can hear some road noise.
Probably wouldn't stay again as having more 'about it' would be appealing.
Fabulous stay Recommends site
Motorhome - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Sep 2024 We are Bongo novices. This is our 3rd outing.

Such a fabulous site, so quiet in a beautiful setting. We will be back in the spring. Thank you Lucy.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Sep 2024 The location great for walks, close to local small shops and a friendly pub. The Wednesday market although small, had nice gifts and produce.

Brilliant campsite Recommends site
Large Tent - Paddock Grass Tent Pitches with Optional Electric Sep 2024 Tobacconist Farm is a great campsite. The location is within walking distance of lots of local walking trails and right next to the small village.
The pitches had a nice distance between them so you felt you were with others, but not in each others pockets. Really peaceful and relaxing site. The facilities were excellent, clean, lots of them and you never had to queue.
The owner and her son were really friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this site. Thanks for a fab stay.

Mixed experience Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Large Grass Pitches with Optional Electric Sep 2024 We didn't get off to a good start with the owner, Lucy. It was mentioned with what the check in times are, but "early/late arrivals cannot be accommodate without 24 hours notice". That led me to believe that if I gave 24 hours' notice, there might be an option to arrive late. I sent an email weeks in advance, asking if it was possible to arrive late and I got a very rude response which I felt was over-the-top considering it was just an inquiry, not an assumption.
Despite this interaction, when we arrived, Lucy was kind and welcoming and settled us into our spot. She suggested some great places to walk and visit. We left for a late night meal and when we returned, the electricity wasn't working at our site. Thankfully, she responded right away and her son got the issue fixed.
The other issue was that there was a group of campers staying there who were up partying late into the night, way past the quiet hours. This is not within the owners' control, although, when the son came down to help with the electrical issue, he could have told the campers to quiet down. Frankly, so could I, but I didn't feel comfortable doing so.
I would still recommend staying here. The location is good, but just know that the check in times are very strict.
Site's response
Erin, I'm a small business, owner operator.
You booked in July for the 5-6th September at my campsite with a check in time from 1-7pm. In August you emailed me stating you'd booked a tour of Stonehenge on 5th September at 6:45pm and would be arriving between 9-10pm. I refused to accommodate you! What makes you think anyone wants to be at work an extra 2-3 hours so you can have your tour?
My campsite was full and you wouldn't have just inconvenienced me, you'd have inconvenienced everyone else on site! Why book a small campsite if you want corporate hospitality? I'm sorry you felt I should put your request above the comfort of others. It's not how I run my business.
