A bit more rustic than expected

Brook Farm camping occupies a beautiful location on the edge of the Blean Woods Nature Reserve and has easy access into Whitstable and surrounding areas. We stayed 4 nights and the campsite was quiet- it was great that we never had to queue for a shower or the toilet. I would imagine that in busy times this would not be the same. We were a little surprised that the setting was not quite as the website showed. The yard was overflowing with rubbish, the old toilet was not removed but made its presence in terms of smell (which was very off putting), making using the cleaning station next to it an unpleasant experience. Unfortunately the 'Arbbys Cafe' was not operational while we were there and the surrounding area of picnic benches looked messy and uncared for, not the image in the photos again. The shower block and toilet block functioned well and the toilet roll and air freshener were appreciated, though the building is unfinished with a wooden ramp to access, and no roof or cladding on the walls. Again, not quite as promised. We did enjoy ourselves but felt the experience was a bit let down by the poor state of the facilities.
Site's response
Thank you so much for your review, Clare. We would love to clarify some of the issues you raised regarding the campsite. Your arrival was following a bank holiday weekend, so as you can imagine with a vast increase of people, we had more waste than usual, which was subsequently picked up and removed. Arbys café is open every Saturday and Sunday within the summer season between 8:30-11 and likewise with pizzas in the evenings on Friday and Saturday nights. Our picnic benches were handcrafted and painted this year but we believe the new café area is a vast upgrade to the previous location of the café as we now have the solar festoon lighting and a courtyard style area! The 'yard' you are referring to is likely to be the car park and we had an unfortunate group that decided not to use the bins but following a quick litter pick up from the staff, the car park was back to being lovely and clear but appreciate the concern. Our washing up area is getting a revamp over the off season with a covered area being added and further sinks and taps to allow a better washing up experience. We do also have an eco toilet on site that may have caused unwanted smells, however this is due to hot weather and is emptied regularly to prevent unwanted aromas. The toilet and shower block has remained unchanged during the upgrade of the building, however we agree the exterior at the time may have looked untidy, we are on the final stages of the upgrade and are excited to reveal our improved facilities for the 2024 season. Following these improvements we have heavily reduced our prices in comparison to other surrounding sites and offer a family friendly, quiet site in which you do not have to pay for showers, you have toilet roll and shower gel provided and you're not squashed into having campers close by. We hope to welcome you next year to ease your concerns and ensure you love our beautiful site!

A really chilled out stay for kids, adults, and dogs. Pitches nice size, loved the animals, really helpful staff, car park a short walk from pitches, quick to drive to Whitstable. Obviously a work in progress (toilets and showers) but can’t wait to come back and see how they’ve got on.

Lovely site, great for kids, with a selection of animals in the camping field. Facilities were half built but what was there was okay. Washing up and waste disposal was really stinky, but the rest of the site made up for this.
Perfect camping experience!

The campsite is in a beautiful location close to Whitstable (by car) and we were greeted by James who couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The pitches were a good size in a lovely location. There was drinking water available and clean, flush toilets (& toilet paper), plus electric showers. Fire pits and logs were available (extra charge) - and a must for the whole camping experience. Pizza available on site in the evening and waffles and crepes in the morning. Would highly recommend and will be back! Oh - and there were birds, cockerel and sheep to greet you with song in the morning!

Pleasant site, let down by poor facilities (but improvements on the way?) This campsite is set in a lovely location, and is convenient for the sights of the Kent coast. However, the facilities were not great - the showers didn't really work and the washing up area was often overflowing. That said, the pizza from the onsite café was great. Construction work was underway on an enlarged toilet block, so maybe the facilities will improve for next summer.
Lovely site but needs plumbing sorted

Great location for us, right next door to Blean Woods. We cycled through the woods, crossed the Blean to Canterbury road, up Chapel Road to access the 'Crab & Winkle Way', from there you can get to Canterbury or Whitstable and then cycle right along the coast with very little road work. Very, very helpful staff, nicely mowed field, partitioned off well, chickens, ducks, rabbits, sheep, nicely penned for children to see. Sadly this site is let down by its facilities, plumbing seriously needs attention, they seem to be doing some building work on the side of the toilet/shower block. Hopefully this will improve matters.

This was our first time camping and what an amazing time we had! James and all his team went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. Our children loved their homemade pizzas! Will definitely be returning next month! Highly recommend! This site is outstanding! Everything about it is beautiful! The scenery is mind blowing! We are a family with young children and booked a spontaneous first night away camping! I couldn't have picked a better place to start our camping journey! The pizza they make on the fire pit oven is out of this world! Me, hubby and kids thoroughly enjoyed it! The facilities are clean and modern, pitch space was massive and plenty of room for for the kids to play! James and his team were so helpful and took the time to chat with us about the camp and told us about the optional extras we could buy! At night the evening vibe is amazing! All the kids sitting with their families around the camp fires and you can hear the wildlife which was heaven! We will definitely be back soon and plan to come a few times a year going forward! 🏕️

The setting for this site is just beautiful. Staff were so helpful and friendly. The ability to hire a fire pit and logs is a winner. Great little café selling pizza is a lovely touch and pizza was very welcome on Saturday evening. The only downside was the toilet and shower facilities, which in all fairness, the owners are currently building and improving.

It was a pleasure staying here, arrived in the evening and the owner James explained everything, a nice friendly guy! They even serve pizza's so I would say 10/10, they have plenty of space for your tent and car! The place itself is really peaceful. Waking up with the sound of chickens and sheep is lovely! I would recommend people 100% to stay here for a day or more! Thanks!

Stayed 2 nights with 2 children, it was their first time camping & they loved it. They want to go back next year. Pizza was delicious and we hired the fire pit, which was a godsend, as it got chilly at night. The owner was really friendly & approachable, he is doing a brilliant job. We will definitely be returning.

Our first camping experience and wanted somewhere local to home. Spent ages looking for somewhere just right and came across Brook Farm. Communication before we went was amazing, personal touch being able to contact James from site directly. Site was perfect for what we wanted, pitches really well spread out. Facilities being upgraded but although may seem basic at present they are just what you need, toilets and shower block easily accessed. Washing up station great. Fire pits available. Arby's cafe serving hot drinks, soft drinks, snacks. Then also waffles etc for breakfast and the most amazing stone baked pizzas on Friday and Saturday night. Staff on site couldn't do enough to help and always easy to find, can't thank them enough. Overall, and as our first ever camping experience, I can't recommend Brook Farm enough. We will definitely be going back.

Great site and allows access to all types of camping/bands. Pitch was a decent size and access to real toilets and showers which we find important. Good things coming with this site as they are currently extending the shower/toilet block. Great for families. Cafe on site at the weekend for coffee and waffles in the morning and pizza at night. Fire pits available for £15 and logs £6, you can bring your own. Good access to Whitstable and lovely pub, The Dove, a few minutes drive away. Ken was a great host and always available.

Stayed here two nights as our first family camping holiday. The site is perfect woods to explore and animals to feed at £1 a bag. Had booked a electric site and was told on arrival we could borrow the correct lead (as first timers with no information whatsoever to know what you need to use an electric site). However, the lead was then given to someone else. James and Ken were indeed two of the nicest people and really did do all they could to keep everyone happy. Would 100% recommend and will return. Whitstable was lovely and crab fishing for children is a must.

Absolutely brilliant. First time camping for us, very welcoming upon arrival from Ken and James. The pizza hut was fantastic and the place was quiet, clean and we would return 100% with great walks and only 15 minutes in the car to Canterbury.

We returned for another great stay at Brook Farm. If you are looking for a quiet campsite in a beautiful location which is close to Blean Woods (great for a bike ride or walk), then this is the place. James and Robyn are really friendly and they are clearly developing the site to be the best it can be. The new toilets and showers are a pleasant addition and we look forward to what is coming next. Arby's is a great facility to have some breakfast, lunch or a coffee. Our 2 children really enjoy the space, socialising with new camping friends and the animals are lovely. See you again soon.

A fab little campsite with animals and a little food hut. Great pizzas at the weekend! Close to Whitstable, so super convenient for day trips to the seaside. Right next to Blean Woods so plenty of walks, runs and adventures on your tent step! Highly recommend.
Poor facilities for the money

Lovely fields, good size pitches, pizza looked fab (but he ran out of dough early so we didn't get to try) The animals were a nice touch but unfortunately, the facilities let the place down so wouldn't return. Only 3 unisex toilets with bird droppings on floor, for 2 camping fields and 1 sink to wash in. Work being done to extend but no warning of this. 2 outside sinks to wash plates etc but they were always dirty and flooded.
A delightful site to return to again

A delightful site, part-surrounded by beautiful woodland offering a choice of locations - in part shade or full sun, with lots of open space especially enjoyed by children. Such a tranquil 2 days made all the more enjoyable by the friendly and helpful owner and team who are rightly very proud of the informal and friendly atmosphere around the site. And, if you can drag yourself away for a while, the coast is a mere 15 minutes drive, and Canterbury also very close. Choose crepes and waffles for breakfast from the onsite snack waggon or, on Friday evenings, delicious pizzas. So, there may be a short queue for toilets and showers when the site is busy (though its clever layout probably means that it never seems to be too busy) and it helps to get to know at what times the showers stay hot. But that's camping, and certainly not enough to detract from my solo stay at Brook Farm.
Relaxing site!

Simple and relaxing! Beautiful site, farm animals on site- ducks, rabbits, sheep, cows and chickens. We stayed 3 nights. The facilities were suitable with showers and toilets, James and the team were renovating the shower/toilet block and I can't wait to go back and see how it has developed. The campsite leads to a forest and is nearby beaches, the blean nature reserve and a few town centres. There's a Tescos and Aldi nearby (10 min drive) so can buy items if needs be. The site is dog friendly and have their own camp dog Indie! Very friendly! Highly recommend!

There was a very good atmosphere here with campers of all ages and several nationalities, some on bikes, some in huge caravans, several in tents, campervans and motorhomes. The children were having a great time despite the pouring rain and were looking forward to pizza from the café/shed. Right next to Church Woods, it is a perfect location for setting off on walks too.
Highly recommend
