About the site

Free from road noise, escape the hustle and bustle to Matilda's Field, enjoying a stunning location at the centre of Dyfnant Forest. It's a great starting point for trips to Snowdonia National Park too, as well as Lake Vyrnwy nearby. Take your pick from two luxury safari tents here, both fully equipped with comfy beds, spacious kitchen and lounge area, private bathrooms and surrounded by acres of space for walking, playing or just taking in the glorious countryside scenery. The Brig y Bryn safari tent sleeps up to six and is set at the very top of the glamping field with views of the forest and beyond. Get a good night's sleep in the king sized four poster bed, as well as an additional double cabin bed and two single beds. The Canol y Cae safari tent sleeps up to four with a king size sleigh bed and two single beds, with beautiful views overlooking the pond and forest. Both include a well equipped kitchen featuring hob, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, plus an extra large cooler box (we replace ice blocks daily). The lounge areas include large comfy sofas, and a cast iron heater. Step outside onto the veranda and you'll spot your very own private BBQ and picnic area. As we are a small site with only two units, you can hire both and enjoy exclusive use of the field for your own private holiday with family and friends away from the bustle of the city.

Safari Tent - Brig y Bryn Safari TentAug 2025

You're truly away from it all. Away from the hustle and bustle, away from the noise. Breakfast with the tent open, enjoying a view you won't soon forget. We had a wonderful time as a family. We took lovely trips to Lake Bala and Bala, and also enjoyed beautiful hikes at Dinas (a 30-minute drive to Mount Aran Fawddwy). The accommodation is excellent. Everything is provided. You'll want for nothing. Mike is an exceptional host. He's incredibly friendly and helpful.

Safari Tent - Canol y Cae Safari TentApr 2025

Mike was very welcoming and hospitable. The tent was lovely, very clean and a great place to relax after a day out. The facilities were great too, which also offered a gas fire, stove and instant hot water. The location in the middle of the forest was lovely and a great escape for busy city/town life. Lots of wildlife to encounter I recommend taking some binoculars or even just sitting on the veranda taking it all in.

Thank you ever so much for your lovely words, glad you had a great time and we hope to see you again soon.

A note from the site themselves...

The story of our site begins in 2017 when we first moved to Tyddyn Amlwg. Not only had we been looking for a home, but somewhere that could be a temporary retreat from the every day for our guests.

We aim to create a stay that we would enjoy ourselves, where our guests leave feeling rejuvenated and recharged. Our site is for lovers of nature, forests, dark skies and wildlife. We very much believe that once you have stayed with us, you will leave with the mantra of Matilda's Field being once found but never forgotten. We hope to welcome you soon, Michael & Donna.
