About the site


A small campsite located within Galloway Forest National Park, offering a great base to explore 300 square miles of landscapes and diverse wildlife. The site is a favourite among dark sky enthusiasts, pitch up and enjoy exceptional stargazing opportunities. Onsite, guests can choose from grass backpacker pitches (10m x 10m) and medium grass tent pitches (10m x 10m) for tents and trailer tents, with an optional 16 amp electric hook up. There are also large, unallocated grass pitches with optional an optional 16 amp electric hook ups for tents and trailer tents. For tourers, the site offers hardstanding pitches (10m x 8m) with optional 16 amp electric hook up, suitable for caravans, motorhomes, campervans, and trailer tents. All pitches include WiFi. Static holiday caravans are also available to hire, ideal for families! Newton Stewart is just a 15 minute drive away and offers a range of shops, pubs, and eateries. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads. BBQs are permitted, but campfires are not allowed.

Onsite, there is a facilities block with toilets and hot showers, a baby changing washroom, and a washing up area. There is also a laundry room and a communal bothy with a kettle, fridge, and freezer. Guests have access to free WiFi, charging facilities, a motorhome service point, and a public telephone.

Dogs can roam free in the dog walk area provided and cleaned using the wash point for dogs, bikes and boots.

A 15 minute drive will take you to The Cree Inn, and for those everyday essentials, Aldi, Sainsbury's, and Co-op Food are also 15 minutes away by car.

Things to do on site and in the Newton Stewart area

This site is an ideal base for hiking, hill walking, wildlife watching, cycling, mountain biking, and more. The 7Stanes Mountain Biking Trails are just a five minute drive away, offering routes for beginners, families, and experienced riders alike.

Wildlife lovers will enjoy the Galloway Forest Park, home to birds of prey, red deer, otters, badgers, black grouse, and more. A 30 minute drive takes you to the Red Deer Range, but don't forget to bring food to hand feed them!

Hill walking is a favourable challenge here, with The Merrick standing as the highest peak at 2,766ft.

For history enthusiasts, the Gem Rock Museum is just over 20 minutes away, while Dumfries Museum is a 50 minute drive.

A 15 minute drive brings you to Newton Stewart, offering shops, pubs, eateries, and Newton Stewart Golf Club for a relaxed round of golf. The Donald Trump Turnberry hotel and golf course is 40 minutes away, with a spa and equestrian centre.
