Good Recommends site
Roof Tent - Electric Grass and Gravel Pitches Jul 2026 The site was easy to find and close to the area we were visiting.
Spacious pitch and clean toilets, the shower rooms were also spacious and the water pressure and temperature were good.
No quiet time was enforced so it was a late night with kids running around and shouting.
For the price it was basic, no amenities like a café or shop so that is the one thing that makes the price pretty high compared to other campsites we have stayed at.
The one staff we saw was friendly.
Good facilities and friendly owners Recommends site
Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Our first night was great - really quiet and had no one near us. Saturday was understandably busier but couldn't fathom why someone chose to pitch a couple of metres away from us on a huge site. It was much noisier in general but did quieten down at 11.
The toilets, showers, and washing up station were all very clean and the showers were great. Staff/owners were super friendly offering logs for fire and checking in to see all was ok.
We didn't want to but loads on offer in terms of rentals - bikes, paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes. Just call the number on the booking through Campsites.
It was about 20 minutes by car to the nearest shop but suited us fine.
Excellent Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Lovely stay here, we had a grass pitch and the field was huge!
Plenty space, it was so peaceful. We got lucky with amazing weather and sunsets. Free fire pits to use and logs can be paid for and collected from a locked shed (or dropped off by owner during the drop off). They had an info shop with lots of handy items and things for kids to keep them entertained, it's unmanned so they use an honesty policy. They also had a borrow box with things that could be borrowed and returned during the stay.
The owner was really lovely and chatted away to us, very attentive which adds a special touch. The only downside to this stay was that if like us, you choose a pitch further away for the peace and quiet, some of the grass isn't cut down so you have a long walk to the toilet block.
There is only 2 showers and one of them was a bit unstable on the wall but they were hot and definitely better than none at all. All in all, I would stay here again for a quiet peaceful escape. Thanks :)
Great campsite Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2026 Great campsite, gives a wild camping feeling but also has facilities.
Lovely location VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2026 Situated in a lovely area. It took us a while to work out where the pitches were as the signposting/instructions could have been bigger and more prominent. Didn’t see any members of staff while we were there.
The facilities were good and clean, just seemed to be a very temporary setup.
Quite a number of the pitches were not level.
Thank you for having me Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2026 Thanks for having me at you're fantastic site even the midge didn't discourage me ☺️
Remote & Lovely Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2026 Site was remote and beautiful. There were lots of toilets and the showers were free to use. The showers were a bit grim, but the toilets were clean.
Relaxing Site Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2026 Lovely and peaceful
Only campers in the field..... Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 We are new to this and are (naturally) experiencing lots of ‘firsts’!
We had the choice of anywhere in the camping field, it was easy to find a level site. Facilities were clean and well maintained.
Great location for exploring Galloway Forest and Loch Ken.
Quiet and peaceful on the night we stayed.
A perfect escape! Recommends site
Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 Second time staying at Hensol and we honestly love it even more each visit.
As a young family, it's absolutely perfect! So much open space for the kids to run around, and it never feels crowded or close to other campers. The whole site has such a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere, and the facilities are spotless and really well looked after. We also love the fire pits dotted around the site — such a cosy touch and great for evenings together.
Hensol has officially become our yearly camping tradition. It's a wonderful campsite, truly one of our favourites, and we can't wait to come back again.
Wild camping feel Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 Great location, the site felt as close to wild camping as possible, showers were great, would stay for longer next time.
Solo Camper - Peaceful Retreat. Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass and Gravel Pitches May 2026 This was exactly the sort of campsite I was looking for to start busy few weeks travelling Scotland. The site sits within a beautiful estate and has a real sense of space about it. Even though the camping area is large, it never felt busy during my stay and there were long periods where all I could hear were the sounds of the countryside.
One thing that stood out was the number of sheep and lambs around the estate. They were clearly used to people and often wandered over out of curiosity, which added a lot of character to the stay.
The self-check-in process was straightforward and everything felt very relaxed. While the site largely leaves you to enjoy your stay independently, staff were approachable and friendly whenever I needed assistance.
Facilities are fairly simple and functional rather than luxurious, but that felt appropriate for the setting. The focus here is very much on the landscape, tranquillity and getting away from it all rather than providing a resort-style camping experience.
If you’re looking for organised entertainment, lots of onsite activities or premium facilities, this may not be the right fit. However, if your idea of a good camping trip involves open countryside, fresh air, plenty of room to yourself and a genuinely peaceful environment, this site delivers that exceptionally well.
Amazing location and perfect facilities Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 Amazing location and perfect facilities
A relaxed peaceful stay - hope to visit again Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 We recently stayed at Hensol Estate Campsite for 3 nights and had a really lovely time. We were in a Tent Box, which meant we could pitch anywhere in the large open field. The space between campers was good with plenty of privacy.
The setting itself felt wonderfully "wild", with sheep wandering through the field and lots of birdsong coming from the trees. Also very close to raiders road which is beautiful to drive through!
Facilities were good overall. The showers were warm with great water pressure.
Our only constructive feedback would be around the toilets. On a few occasions there was no loo roll, and one of the sink taps wasn't running, so we ended up washing our hands in the shower instead. A couple of the bathroom door locks were also very loose (in particular the shower toilet block on the far left) and could do with tightening.
We also forgot our stove, so it was brilliant that fire pits were available to use for free, with wood available for £10. The only small suggestion would be to include a little box of matches, which would make things even easier for campers.
Despite those minor issues, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Thanks for having us.
What a great find Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2026 The weather looked promising so we decided to book a site not too far from home for just the one night. Found Hensol advertised and it sounded like the type of campsite we'd enjoy.
When we arrived, there was no-one on the field so we had the freedom to pick any pitch we wanted. Pitched up and then phoned the owner to ensure we were in the right place, which we were. It was beautiful, very quiet, just birdsong and sheep.
The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean, as was the dishwashing facility. There was a little camp kitchen with fridge/freezer/microwave and toaster. Also spotless, but as we were in a campervan, we didn't use this.
We walked twice to the bird hide, saw red kites amongst lots of different birds. We didn't venture far. A second camper did appear, but it wasn't exactly overcrowded.
Loved it and will definitely go back. Perhaps make use of the rental bikes and firepit the next time. Didn't see anyone apart from the other camper. We weren't sure what time we had to be off site, so we didn't rush to leave.
Amazing views and surrounding activities Recommends site
Small Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2026 Amazing stay, waking up in the morning to the sight and sound of lambs was lovely. The facilities were great the showers we spacious and had a lot of pressure and the water temperature was spot on. The fire pits available on site were good and there were quite a few around. We booked the electric pitch but didnt bring a converter with us and the site kindly let us use one of there's at no cost which was fantastic. Plenty of things to do and see around the campsite. Loch Kenn is only a short drive or a moderate walk away.
Superb! Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2026 Fantastic campsite.
I had booked campsites day by day due to doing a small road trip up to Glasgow. I ended up saying the second night due to how peaceful and clean the site was.
Hosts were lovely so I highly recommend it here!
I will be coming back again in the future.
Great weekend Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Sep 2025 We were gravel biking and this was a fantastic location, straight on all the trails.
Showers and toilets were excellent, also liked the kettle, toaster, microwave, and fridge for use in the communal kitchen room.
We will definitely return 👍
lovely place to stay 5 mins from the Loch Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Really nice, clean quite place to stay. I would recommend Hensol estate 100% beautiful sunset (take insect repellent).
Only minor draw back which cant really be helped is that the grass had just been cut and it got everywhere.
Great site Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 We has a great time. The pitches were well spread out so we weren't too close to anyone else. The dark sky was amazing- we saw so many stars!
We hired a paddleboard and a canoe which was fun. The showers were hot. We would definitely recommend and would stay again.
Amazing stay with our young family Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 We chose to travel 4 hours from Yorkshire to Hensol for our first family camping experience, with 2 young children - 6 years and 2 years - due to the 'close to wild as possible' states on the website, as we didn't want to go to an overcrowded site.
We were blown away by the vast space to offer, the super relaxed approached of choosing your own space to pitch your tent, the amount of fire pits around for you to use. The facilities were clean and modern, and you were not bothered by anyone. Our children had plenty of space to run and play for hours and thoroughly enjoyed their first camping trip. The only disappointing part was that we only booked for 3 nights. We were very sad when it was time to pack up.
We will definitely be going back! We had a super relaxing and peaceful stay.
Peaceful and quiet Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Grass and Gravel Pitches Aug 2025 Very remote site, with basic facilities, but every thing you need. Right in the woods with nice walks/bike rides. Very peaceful and quiet. We found it great for a short stay. Loved the look of the glamping pods, I'm sure these would be fun to stay in.
Tidy, clean, spacious and peaceful Recommends site
