Basic

It's basic of all basics! When we arrived I called at reception, no one answered, so managed to find the phone number and a lady said she's at work and will be home by 6.30ish…told us where to park and that was it. Very uneven field basic shower and toilet. Very disappointed that the lady didn't even come and see if we were ok! Not once did we see anyone! In my opinion that's just rude and bad business!

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you found my absence 'rude,' though I am slightly flattered you came explicitly to see me! If you were so desperate for my company, you really should have brought wine... or cake... or ideally both! 😜 However, I would like to provide some context for your one-night stay. As a small site, we have chosen not to increase our prices for two years despite the cost-of-living crisis. To make this possible and keep camping affordable, I work off-site during the day. This is why we handle arrivals via email instructions and phone, allowing guests to settle in immediately rather than waiting for a staff member to return. Furthermore, during your stay, we were dealing with a major grid power cut. I stayed in contact with you via WhatsApp throughout to keep you abreast of the situation. As you responded with a laughing face and fingers-crossed emojis to my little jape about 'Armageddon' breaking out if my teens' phones ran out of charge, plus your assurance that your battery backup would see you through, I assumed all was well. I was truly shocked that you were secretly harbouring resentment that I hadn't come down to light your candles for you. We aim to provide a quiet, independent experience; while we are always a phone call away for emergencies, we do not 'patrol' the site, as we prefer to respect our guests' privacy. It seems a more commercial site with a 24-hour manned reception and level, manicured pitches might be a better fit for your needs.

Disappointed

No one cleaned the facilities. Elsan disposal had no hose on the tap. There was no path so had to stumble across the mud. We saw a couple living at the bottom of the field and another couple at the small cottage, none of them spoke to us. The grass was rutted. The mud outside the facilities was worsened by the residents at the bottom of the field using their car. The whole place looked tired.

Not as good as they say

Lots of reviews have said how great the toilets and showers are. Don't believe them. The owner of the site has delegated responsibility to a couple staying onsite. Sadly, cleaning the toilets and showers is not a priority. The shower drains are blocked so that they overflow into the rest of the toilets. The number of toilets and showers is the bare minimum for the site and they are not cleaned often enough. They are shabby and messy and not the delight that many have commented. The bins are overflowing and not regularly emptied, and no recycling at all. External water tap is shambolic. Pitches are good. We were disturbed by a dad who could only shout at his five kids, not talk normally. The incumbent wardens did nothing to tell them to shut up. A couple played reggae music until midnight, again no warning from the wardens. All in all, an unclean filthy shower/toilets and no respect for quiet after 10pm, people could make as much noise as they liked. No, we won't stay here again.

Couldn't wait to go!

Budget campsite but even with that, it needs improvement in our opinion. Shower block inadequate ventilation, you need a shower after your shower! Never been on a more noisier campsite! That's not coming just from children! I'm sure the owners of campsite could hear the daytime racket, so why didn't they come out and monitor this? Also, we think the pitch sizes are far too small, you almost feel like sardines!

Nice place

Nice place, close to solva. Walked in from campsite and back. Nice stroll once we found the footpath. Lovely friendly owner .lots of family's there.

Peaceful stay

Facilities were clean, cleaner was very friendly. Horses on adjacent field were tame and used to children. The camping field was big and lots of open space. 5 minutes from a beach or shop. I had emailed prior to my stay to ask about 2 pitches together no reply. When I arrived there was no one to check in with available or to explain where everything is etc.

Better than expected

Those people who loved quite, this is perfect one. Far from the shop quite location big space for tent, grass grounds. Only one things you may have to confirmed your pitch by phone sometimes after your online booking, online booking doesn't confirm your pitch even it showed in online booking confirmation. But they will managed nicely when you reached there. But overall very helpful warden, definitely recommended.

Great campsite

Highly recommend Birtwick park. The site is very clean and perfect for families, couples or just horse lovers, alike. The location is great, very close to local beaches and the harbour pub in Slova is lovely for food and drinks. The Nisa shop in St David's is fab, reasonable and well stocked. Love this campsite. Lovely quiet site

First impressions were 'it's in the middle of nowhere' but in actual fact we were central to everything and was only a short drive out to some wonderful beaches and places of interest, like Newgale beach, and Broad Haven beach, St David's with its beautiful cathedral and bishops palace, the fabulous burial grounds with their standing stones, Fishguard fort and Newport , pretty Solva harbour and the lime kilns to name a few. The site was so quiet apart from the occasional horse whinnying 😃 the pitches are good sized, level, grass. The toilets are showers are lovely and clean and there is an indoor washing up area. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the peace and quiet. Nottinghamshire couple with two spaniels.

Dark skies, peaceful rest

We have stayed at Birtwick previously, so we knew what to expect. Highly recommended but if in motorhome, it is remote and a little trek into Solva village. Site would benefit by providing maybe a little shop on site to cover essentials like tea, coffee, milk and bread etc, especially if don't have luxury of a car to get around. Lots to see and do in the area, like Newgale Beach or St David's, as well as the Pembrokeshire coastal path, which can be accessed reasonably close to campsite. Very clean site, peaceful working horse farm, the horses in next field to the campsite were so friendly and come up to fence to great visitors. On clear nights, a great view of the skies as it is such a dark location, no light pollution to spoil it.

Lovely quiet location, good size pitch, good facilities with no frills if you want peace and quiet with a view of the horses.

Huge pitches and beautiful views with spotless, freshly decorated shower/toilet block. Great host. Thoroughly recommend, peaceful site away from main road, will be returning soon.

Would like to say thanks to Jayne for being so helpful and going above and beyond for my stay. The site was very clean and tidy. The shower/WC and kitchen area was very clean and well looked after. The horses were very friendly and my daughter was very happy seeing them run and play together. Hopefully we will be able to come again in time. Thanks again for our stay xxx

Beautiful site

A lovely site, I never saw the owner but they were available if needed! Very well kept. Just a few points, a stool in the shower if needed and I couldn't find water tap for ages (could do with sign saying drinking water!). A lovely view and very quiet, I would definitely stay again.

All round great campsite!

A great campsite! It was on the smaller side which we enjoyed. Overall it was very peaceful, especially with the horses on the next field and the occasional cat in the yard. The facilities were all clean and tidy. The family who own the farm were friendly and welcoming too. It's within walking distance to Solva, a quick drive to ST David's and close to beaches and the coastal path. It's in a fab location for both trips to the towns and getting out into nature. Really great value for money, I would absolutely recommend this campsite

Quiet site!

Lovely rural site. Facilities were kept spotlessly clean. Lovely site to enjoy the countryside.

Lovely quiet place

We only stayed for one night whilst travelling around Wales. It was a lovely quiet place, had nice showers and toilets and was really handy having electric for the tent pitch too.

Lovely campsite

Spent 3 nights on this campsite and it was lovely and peaceful. The toilets and showers were kept clean and tidy. Saw the owner in there day and night cleaning. We got lost on our way there and the owner was very helpful and gave us directions. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quiet few days away with beautiful scenery.

Enjoyable

Very peaceful and quiet. Very clean toilet/bathrooms and grass pitch was spacious and very clean. Excellent place to stay to chill and experience a peaceful evening.

Could do with a tidy

Half an hour walk to Solva, mostly off road so location isn't too bad. Site is let down by scruffy appearance and looks very neglected. Can't comment on toilet and shower facilities as we didn't use them. Didn't think it was worth £35 per night. Certainly wouldn't bring my horse here, as broken fence posts with nails sticking out just laying on the ground in the field.
