Close to river

Warm welcome from Martyn with clear arrival instructions by email. Site was very close to river and surrounded by trees. Watched a bird of prey being chased by crows! Facilities were clean and adequate. For me the only drawback was lack of eating out opportunities if you did not want to drive. I arrived on a Monday when the fish and chip shop was closed and there are no close by pubs. A minor drawback but location made up for it.

Many thanks for your review. It was great to meet you. I would tend to agree with options for eating out in our village, there is the Coul house hotel which is walkable from our site. Fish and chip shop is not open Sunday and Monday, but there are takeaways that deliver to our site.

Always ascending

I visited at the end of the season and had the place almost to myself. A lovely setting by a river with lovely views. The facilities were clean and good value for money. An excellent shop next to the site and a brilliant chippy down the road (best haggis supper I have ever had!). The site owner was an absolute star - really helpful.

Excellent all-round

Camped in a small tent for 3 nights at the end of September and have no complaints. The site is in a great location, facilities were kept perfectly clean throughout our stay (nice electric showers, good washing up areas and clean toilets). Martyn, the site owner, provided some great recommendations for the local area and all-round was very hospitable and friendly. There is also a well stocked and friendly village shop right next to the campsite. I fully recommend camping here.

NC500 stop

Lovely quiet campsite, older, basic facilities but beautiful riverside pitch. Met on arrival, very helpful gentleman. Would recommend for a peaceful stay and handy shop next door for supplies.

Our visit

I cannot recommend this site enough. Owner was lovely and made sure to introduce with himself. He gave us very good tips on what to see nearby, local shops, food places etc. Campsite is located in a beautiful place near the river. They don't have many pitches which I loved as it was not overcrowded. Facilities are spot on. There was even sanitary products in the ladies' toilets and owners set up separate tent where everyone can go and have a free tee and coffee. Amazing service, will definitely come back.

Peace and the sound of the river

A quiet, intimate, conveniently located campsite. Well-kept and clean. Friendly owners offer a common tent for everyone with good Wi-Fi coverage, hot water, coffee and tea. Wi-Fi coverage in the tents is poor. A good starting point for exploring the area. The sound of the river lulls you to sleep.

Lovely, peaceful site

We had a lovely peaceful stay here by the beautiful river. Most often in campsites, I'm woken up early by either children shouting or dogs barking, but you will not get that here and you can sleep as long as you wish to, bliss. There's lots to do around and about Strathpeffer and I especially liked walking through the woods to Rogie Falls. We will definitely be back to this campsite!

Peaceful spot

Didn't want to leave but had to carry on the journey. This isn't a big site, but the facilities were roomy and kept spotless. Beautiful setting. Very scenic, right on the river. Oh, so peaceful. There was a play area for young ones. If teenagers are into the outside life this would suit. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Quiet and welcoming campsite on beautiful riverside

Stayed overnight on our NC500 road trip and it is ideally located. Martyn is a very helpful and welcoming host and his campsite along black river is very pleasant.

Although small, it was a great camping site on the way back from NC500 route towards Inverness. Owner was very friendly .

Lovely location

Lovely small campsite, beautiful location.

Great location!

Lots of great places within easy hiking distance - Rogie Falls, Achilty Loch and Strathpeffer. Nice little village shop right next door. Great fish and chip shop opposite the petrol station nearby.

Great little campsite with all the facilities that you need

Never knew about this campsite. Searched local campsites near Ben Wyvis and found this little haven. Has all the facilities that you need, plus there's a shop and local fish and chip shop within walking distance. Will definitely come back and would recommend to fellow campers.

Quiet get away

Perfect place for a quiet break. Only problem was the midges but was worth it, I feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

Lovely small site, very friendly

Fantastic, convenient, perfect, peaceful stay on route home from John O' Groats back to Yorkshire.

Spot on campsite

After canoeing on the Spey for three days and was using the time to go round the NC500 on my motorbike. Wanted a place to switch activities and start the NC500. This was a perfect location. Host was first class and very friendly making me feel welcome. Never sure when on a motorbike, but soon made at home. Compact and secure campsite adjacent to the river making it relaxed and nice. Not many kids (been there and done that) so pleasant and not noisy. Would love to use this campsite again in future - perfect stopover, many thanks.

Great place to visit

Martyn and Deborah who own the site are a really nice, laid-back couple. I've met other people here who come back time and again. It's nicely tucked away with the river on the edge of the campsite. You only have to glance up to see the Red Kites showing off their flying skills. If you're into mt biking there's a forest just down the road, with some good forestry tracks. Or walk through it to visit the spectacular Rogie Falls and Fish Ladder, to assist the salmon on the way to spawn. I'll be back next year, I enjoy places with their own character.

Short "break"

I would have loved to have stayed longer but I took a tumble while boat fishing and broke a rib. Thereafter, sleeping in a tent was not an option, so sadly I had to cut my holiday short. I would definitely recommend the site.
