Site aerial

Bwch yn Uchaf is set in the heart of Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park and within a 30 minute walk of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), making it a great base for outdoor adventures. With almost no light pollution, the site offers some amazing starry night skies and you can pitch where you like, even next to the river! Little ones will love the play park, splashing in the River Twrch and the charming chug of Bala Lake Railway next door. Dog friendly too.

We have been coming to Bwch Yn Uchaf for 6 years, it never disappoints! The site is beautifully looked after, the facilities are clean and the children have loads of things to do. Due to the glorious weather we actually spent a couple of our days onsite chilling out. The children didn't say they were bored once! We will keep coming back for the amazing scenery, warm welcome and quiet evenings. Thanks to Bethan and Gareth for another wonderful stay.

Will definitely be back

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2023

Absolutely gorgeous site. Owners are lovely, facilities are great and always clean, the family shower room is a great size. Amazing views and my 1 year old loved the river and playing in the park. Will most definitely be back.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2023

Very pretty location inbetween two mountain ranges. A good peaceful base location for a few days. Not a lot in the way of local pubs etc but that’s the point and the price reflects this. Perfectly clean and well thought out. The river running through the site was a charm. Perfect basic site that suited my weekend requirements.

Fantastic campsite!

Fabulous campsite! Facilities are great, well maintained, clean and ample. Lovely surroundings with the river running through and the night sky was well worth paying for! Right next to the Bala Lake Railway which is also worth the trip. All around great and will definitely be back!

We booked this site because it is right next to the Bala Lake Railway. My husband spent a happy weekend watching the Quarry Hunsletts doing their thing, we went on the train to Bala, and we walked. It is a good area for cycling too, although we didn't use our bikes. The dog walk area is really good. We were made very welcome by Gareth, who wasn't phased when I rang to say we might be late arriving. As it happens we weren't. The late check in (8pm) is unusual but does mean that people can escape from work on a Friday and be pitched up ready to enjoy the weekend. Many campsites expect you to arrive by 5pm. Unfortunately you have to leave by 10.30, but that wasn't an issue for us. Everything looked well cared for and clean, although we are self-sufficient with our own shower and toilet. There is another area with some hard standing pitches at a lower level, away from views of the railway station. We might use that next time. It is an exceptional site and we shall be back!

Nice little campsite

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2022

Lovely little campsite not far from the village of Bala. Facilities were very clean and worked very well and overall the campsite was really great. We did leave a day early but that was weather related, nothing to do with the site!

Excellent site

Fantastic site, great facilities and lovely and clean. We pitched next to the park which the kids loved. Less than 10 minutes to Bala lake. Great time had by all, definitely recommend.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2022

I took my two kids here for a weekend in August. We had a great time. The toilets and showers are spotless. There is a river along the campsite that we paddled in. There is plenty of space overall. When it is clear you get a really good view of the stars and you can see the Milky Way. The steam railway next to the site is worth going on and you can hike up Mount Aran.

Great site and experience

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2022

Although we didn't spend a huge amount of time onsite, we had a great experience when we did. The kids loved playing on the park and I pitched the tent in a spot nearby, so they were able to play while I set up and dismantled. The fenced off dog area was great, especially as it is next to the river, so the dog was able to cool off.

Lovely quiet site

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2022

Went as a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The site was a perfect base for exploring. We walked around some of the local area and also went to Bala Lake. The site was clean and the facilities were very nice with good showers. The stream was a nice addition to cool down with the hot weather! There was a lovely park area for younger children and a dog run, which was nice for the dog to be off lead and burn some energy. We would definitely go back.
