About Western Meadows Glamping

The safari tents are beautifully revamped and stunning, set in an elevated spot to get the best views.. The wood burning hot tubs are set next to each tent for easy access. The tents sleep six plus a travel cot (upon request), and are large and offer a king size, two single and a double den bed. Each tent has a private internal bathroom with toilet and large family shower. There is an open plan living, dining and kitchen area with a wood burning range (used for heat and cooking/baking). Outside there is a large veranda with a family sized gas BBQ for outside dining. The safari tents are situated in a field next to the Kensey River. There are also three communal fire pit areas with seating. Tents have mains power and hot and cold running water. Towels and bedding are provided, along with basic cleaning products and two tubs of wood for the range cooker and hot tub. Dogs on leads are welcome and an area is provided with an eco-friendly compost bin for their convenience and yours. There are many wild bird species within the area, ranging from large buzzards, which can be seen soaring in the air, to two woodpeckers species - greater spotted and rare green woodpecker. Yellow wagtails and the common pied wagtails, goldfinches, chaffinches, thrushes and - if you are quiet - kingfishers by the river.

Open from 24 March to 3 November

Owls hunt along the river at night and often the Pipistrelle bats can be glimpsed at twilight.

In the river are trout and small fish. Feel free to bring your wellies or water sandals for paddling in the river, with your fishing net or fish using your rod from the bridge. The river is fenced off, but access can be had at your own risk.

There is very little light pollution, so if you are interested in the night sky, then on clear nights the stars are very bright.

There are many free to roam walking and cycles routes around the area and the lanes. There are also several local beaches that allow dogs.

Part of Cycle West route 327 is down Under Lane and Cardinham Woods is 30 mins away, so bring your bikes, or hire.

Just down the road and over the bridge is New Mills Farm Park that has small animals, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, miniature goats and ponies. There are also pedal go-karts, skittles, a ball pool, zip wire, slide and paddling area, plus a small café that serves hot snacks, ice cream, coffee and tea.

The Launceston Steam Railway runs between New Mills Farm Park and Launceston daily during the holiday season. Visit Launceston Castle while you are there, with magnificent views to Dartmoor and the Kensey Valley.

Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre is just 11 mins away in the Tamar Valley.

Trethorne Leisure Centre is 1.9 miles away, with an 18 hole golf course, indoor bumper cars, and ten pin bowling.

Hidden Valley Discovery Park is 1.5 miles away, with Poterswick Junction Light Railway, Forbidden Mansion, 'X'plorer's Path with clues and crystal maze, Mrs Sproggett's Cream Teas and murder mystery evenings.

Further afield, it's 30-35 minutes by car away from Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven. Both beaches are good for surfing, life guards in attendance.

Travel south to Port Isaac (or Port Wenn in the TV series Doc Martin) and visit its very small streets, pubs and cafes. Boscastle is just 20 mins away, a quaint fishing village with lots of history and character.

The Eden Project is 35 minutes away by car, with an amazing amount to see and do (dogs allowed in outdoor gardens only). The Lost Gardens of Heligan is around an hour away for a day out around the historic gardens at Heligan (dog friendly). Visit Lanhydrock House and Gardens too.

Other than that, a visit the moors of Bodmin and Dartmoor is much recommended. Dartmoor can be glimpsed in the distance from the field!
