About Donkey Down Campsite

With breathtaking views over Weymouth Bay, this family and dog-friendly site offers a relaxing base for exploring all that the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has to offer. Within ten minutes of stunning sandy beaches, such as Bowleaze Cove and Weymouth Beach, you're in a prime spot for making the most of the summers sun. Tent campers are welcome across the site's 150 non electric grass pitches, each spread across the large ten acre gently sloping site. Each pitch welcomes up to eight guests, with glorious coast and countryside all around. For those who don't want to bring their accommodation with them, the site also offers 11 unfurnished bell tents, each with its own fire pit. The bell tents allow up to six guests, with all of the traditional elements of camping except having to worry about pitching up when you arrive. Both BBQs and campfires in firepits are welcome onsite, so make sure you bring you marshmallows for nights of making s'mores under the stars. Dogs are also allowed onsite, with up to three allowed on each pitch and in the bell tents, so make sure you make room for your four-legged friends!

The site is open for May half term and weekends until 14th July.

A note from the site themselves...

We are a really relaxed site with lots of space, surrounded by ancient historic monuments. You may recognise the same great facilities and friendly staff as our sister site, Donkey Down. You can choose where you pitch, a quiet corner or with your friends. Everyone is welcome, so long as they are considerate of the other visitors.

We have tried to make the site accessible for single people and groups, along with encouraging sustainable travel. With the exception of the first weekend, there will be live music (a band) every Saturday night from 8pm to 10pm to add to the fun atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming you!

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesMay 2023

We booked our stay last minute on a bit of a whim (first time taking our 3 year old camping), and we really loved it! The view was phenomenal and the location was perfect. The staff were really lovely and advised us to set up at the top of the hill if we wanted a quieter stay. Even the showers were pleasantly surprising - warm and with good power! Would definitely recommend and for the price, you get more than what you'd expect!

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesMay 2023

Donkey Down is in an amazing location. It's so close to the beach with a shop less than 5 minutes away. The views are amazing and the people working there are so kind and friendly. Also, so helpful! We forgot part of our cooker and they gave me a flask with hot water so I could give my baby his bottles until we could get to a shop in the morning! Overall a great campsite and lovely atmosphere, especially when the band was playing on the Saturday night!

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesJul 2023

I stayed for 2 nights and everything was good, staff are amazing. I felt the facilities a little bit primitive but always clean and water hot. In an ideal world, there would be washing up and drinking water up the top of the field too. A brilliant live band on Saturday night, would I stay again? YES! It was fantastic value for money.
