About Woodchests Glamping

Set in two acres of peaceful countryside you'll find three family friendly ensuite safari tents, each individually named Oak, Maple and Horn Beam, sleeping up to six guests. The family run site is also being transformed by planting native trees and hedgerows alongside the woodland, to offer a tranquil stay with nature. Once you've settled in, you'll have free use of a double bedroom, bunk bedroom and a snug raised double cabin bed with space below offering extra storage or a great den for the little ones to have fun in. Travel cots and high chairs are also available on request, but please bring your own bedding for the cot bed. Your living area is open plan and fully furnished, great for chilling out in the evening. There is also a kitchen area equipped with everything you'd need including crockery, cutlery and utensils. To keep you nice and cosy, there will also be a Provence stove gas heater for those cooler evenings. Outside is a decking area with a table and chairs, a wood-fired grill and a pizza oven, perfect for alfresco dining or star gazing. Why not add a little extra space and hire an unfurnished bell tent? Great if you're inviting a couple of additional people or even for the kids to have their own space. Bring your fishing rod and make the most of the impressive 19 acre fishing lake on site, filled with carp, pike, tench, bream and hybrids. Tickets are available to purchase from the site. Sorry, no pets are allowed. The site also offers exclusive hire of all three safari tents and six wild camping pitches for up to 30 guests.

Woodchests Glamping is open from 01/04 to 31/10.

A jewel in the Essex countryside. When it came to conjuring up a 40th birthday event that suited family, friends and young kids, would be set casually, outdoors, could entertain outdoor games, involve a BBQ and accommodate those travelling and needing to stay overnight, Woodchests was the first choice. Turns out it was the only choice as nothing else would come close. What a great decision that was! Firstly, it's a beautiful and peaceful location - a gem in Essex countryside and we felt secure after dark too with the locked gates. Our welcome and orientation of the site by a member of the booking team (Rhys) was very handy and he went above what typically expected in familiarising us and reassuring us he was 'on call' all hours. The impressive safari tents are well-equipped for cooking, dining and drinking. The furnishings are so in keeping and tastefully styled. We all adored the cabins and were impressed with the comfy beds with plenty of space for bags and clothing. A highlight was the cabin bed - a big draw for the younger members. When it comes to cooking, the wood-fuelled bbq is great, with plenty of wood provided too. For a rural and very authentic 'glamping' experience, the indoor toilet, sink and shower were very welcome! Water pressure is unexpectedly strong. The beautiful meadow offers a great space outside the tent to play and a good sized wooden picnic table was ideal for entertaining. Other mentions: Gas-powered fridge is very effective and useful. Solar powered lights and lanterns were supplied and provided suitable lighting. Very peaceful with the lack of traffic noise - a real off-grid escape Lastly, with no ambient light, Woodchests is ideal for star gazing. A treasure of a site in the Essex countryside maintained to the highest and most nature-friendly standards. We'll be back! Hopefully before a 50th! Thank you to Claire & Hugh for their services.

Jul 2023

We stayed in one of the bell tents with our 3 children, and our friends stayed in the other two tents on the campsite. This is a perfect location for a weekend getaway with friends away from the business of life. The site is secure enough that we could allow our children to be independent and run around with their friends without worrying about any one else. We moved the pizza ovens together to create a BBQ for all the families, we played rounders on the field with all the families. The tents were very clean, with all of the amenities you could possibly need for a relaxing weekend camping. We had such a brilliant time we will be booking again for next year.

Wholesome fun

Safari Tent - Oak Safari TentOct 2023

Me and my two children had a great stay here in October - wholesome fun with lots of space outside to play in the day, then in the evening toast marshmallows on the fire. The children really loved the cabin bed! Check in was very good - Tim showed me how to use everything. The tent is in a secluded area so best for 2 adults as opposed to a single adult with children.
