VW-Type Campervan - Standard Plus Hardstanding Pitches (Optional Electric)Nov 2024

A great place to stay with lots of hard standings for winter use. The owner very accommodating and helpful, thanks for the loan of the torch.

Site's response

Thanks Chris for the positive review. We are always happy to help light your way, especially as we are a dark site!

Single Axle Caravan - Medium Hardstanding Pitches (Optional Electric)Nov 2024

Nice little place, a great location and really friendly staff. A few bits of the park left unfinished, could be time of the season though. Can't wait to come back in the spring.

Site's response

Thank you for your positive review. We have lots of plans and improvements to make when we close at the end of the month for our winter break. You will see the difference next year when we reopen in March, take care.

Pricey!

VW-Type Campervan - Standard Hardstanding Pitches (Optional Electric)Nov 2024

For £28 a night without electricity or any other benefits I feel this site out of season is overpriced. The pitches are close together and rather like a car park with grass dividers. There was a lot of activity, with arrivals and departures early and late. In high season, this is probably a good site for location and money but for a solo traveller in winter, expensive and not special.

Site's response

I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us but I believe that might have been your unrealistic expectations. For example, the only other campsite in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is open and has hard standings charges £39.85/night, so we charge considerable less than they do. Also, as a solo traveller, you would feel the cost more as like most holiday destinations, our basic unit price is for 2 people and thus would works out at £14/person; hardly expensive for a hardstanding pitch on a site with showers, toilets, grey water disposal etc. In addition, it costs more to run a site with full facilities in winter than summer; heating for example, so your expectation that less guests should mean it's cheaper isn't accurate on sites with full open facilities. In summer, that same pitch is £21. Also, though it might be dark and you might have gone to bed early, it's quite normal for other guests to go out and enjoy the area, go for a meal etc. They will return after dark, but as long as they are within our barrier (which shuts at 11pm and opens at 7am) then that should not be considered unusual; though to you it might seem late. A guest did leave at 7am but again, that would be normal and totally their choice as they had a long journey to make. It was sadly, not to your liking but surely part of the give and take of being on a campsite and not our "fault". For accuracy, we have a variety of kinds of hardstanding. True, some are in rows with grass alongside but others are not in rows. We have full gravel hardstanding pitches and hardstanding pitches alongside our river, plus a wide range of full grass pitches for use in good weather. All have electricity and some full facilities. We have tried to cover all options whilst keeping the site natural looking and beautiful. You booked our basic hardstanding but you could have chosen a different one. We wish you well.
