Things to do in Henley-on-Thames
The beautiful Chiltern landscape is one of Henley’s many charms, where walks along the Chiltern Way and the Thames Path offer different (yet no less stunning) views. Enjoy exploring the vast countryside or indulge in its peace and quiet. With 324 square miles of scenery, something is bound to catch your eye.
After a hike around the nearby AONB, uncover the clues of the Henley-on-Thames Mystery Trail. Answers to each of the riddles are spaced around the town on local landmarks and statues. The trail is a great way of exploring the town whilst having fun with the kids.
When you’ve solved the mystery, consider hiring a canoe and row along the Thames where you can admire the surrounding setting in style.
If you don’t fancy heading out onto the water, visit the River and Rowing museum. Offering a bit of local history, the museum has a range of exhibitions that constantly change throughout the year, keeping youngsters on their toes.
Another fascinating bit of history awaits at Nuffield Place. Walk down the corridors of the extravagant establishment before strolling through its meadows. Kids will love seeing the range of vintage cars often parked outside William Morris’ estate.
Families can also enjoy the Warburg Nature Reserve. Young adventurers can take time to explore the woods and discover its wildlife.
Alternatively, let the kids run wild in Wonder Woods at Stonor. The adventure park includes a fifty metre zip wire and provides multiple opportunities for sliding around its nature.
If the sun isn’t shining, drive along to the nearby Jungle Mania. This giant soft play area gives kids the chance to run around its 3 levels which includes a spider tower, slides and ball pits.
Don’t forget to make the most of the local cuisine at Henley. The Greyhound is a popular choice for steak lovers but there’s also a wide range of other dishes to whet your appetite.
Venture out of the town and visit the Skiplex Endless Indoor Ski Slope in Reading. Perfect for first time skiers or for improving your technique, this makes for an exciting day trip.
The instructors cater to whichever type of skier you are so you don’t have to worry about embarrassing yourself if it’s your first time.
When you’ve finished exploring what the town has to offer, take advantage of its location and head to Windsor Castle, one of the Seven Wonders of Britain.
