Blackwater Glamping and Campsite Reviews
Often hailed as one of the best equipped sites along the West Highland Way, Blackwater Glamping and Campsite is an ideal base for walkers and outdoor lovers looking to explore Argyll. Dog and family friendly, the site offers grass pitches for small tents, en-route from Glencoe, and cosy glamping pods for groups of up to four. The famous Ice Factor Climbing Centre is just opposite the site with Loch Leven less than five minutes away!

Very enjoyable stay. Toasty, warm pod - very cosy. Facilities really clean. Can't fault it. Would definitely come back 🙂

Generally okay but gave weird vibes, very overpriced for what you get and the men’s shower rooms need changing, there’s no privacy and people could easily take your stuff.

Sorry to learn that a few things didn't seem to meet your expectations during your stay, we are a little unsure what you mean by weird vibes - we generally have great feedback regarding the friendly atmosphere of campers and our team and do strive to offer a welcoming environment for all. Both the male and female showers are communal and as with all communal areas at backpacking campsites there is a show of general trust and honesty amongst all guests, items going missing is never something we have had any cause or issue of concern over here across the years of owning the business. If you felt you had any valuables you did not want to leave, our team would have been happy to hold them in reception for you if this would have helped. We do hope this hasn't deterred you from staying again with us in the future and we thank you for your business.

Okay campsite

The campsite was nicely located close to major links to Fort William, Glencoe and other important landmarks. However it's not private and the tents are packed, all so close to each other so there isn't any wild or rural camping feeling. The bathrooms were very clean and we took advantage of the dry room as it was a wet time with lots of rain. It offers places for barbecue with tables and benches which was nice.

The team work very hard to ensure a high level of cleanliness, so thank you. The drying room is definitely a bonus on those rainy days! :-) I'm sorry the campsite was busier than you were expecting. There are only two campsites in the village and a high level of campers coming through. We try to fit in everyone comfortably, and not disappoint anyone by turning them away. We're just a walker/hiker's one night stay campsite, rather than a park or resort. Hope it doesn't put you off future visits. Thanks again.

We stayed in a microlodge (sleeps 4) on day 7 of 8 doing the West Highlands Way. We found the campsite to be perfectly located for this. The campsite is really close to the coop and the pub and the chip shop, so all options are catered for! The drying room was excellent too.

We had such a great time glamping at this site (our first time glamping). The pod was the perfect size for all four of us to comfortably sleep in (2 adults, 2 kids plus 1 small dog). The mattresses were super comfy. The facilities were excellent and clean (one shower wasn't working, but others were available so no waiting time). The location is amazing - the perfect base to explore, and it's walking distance to the local town so it was easy to stock up on supplies. We were really positively surprised by our experience (we're not really camping types) and are already planning our next trip. Only thing to consider is that the pods are really well-insulated so it gets warm on a hot day (admittedly rare in Scotland - we travelled during a heatwave). The windows have nets and can be left open for ventilation, but the doors don't, so I'd recommend bringing a mosquito net for those and only light pjs/sleeping bags. No fault of the campsite though, and I bet it's lovely and cosy when it's colder (i.e. most of the year!)

Location is great with plenty of facilities close by, although the showers could do with some folding seating. The stone chips on the walkway are noisy when people go to toilet during night, but this is being very picky. Had two good nights there and would return anytime.

I stayed here in a tent and it was lovely. Surprised with how wonderful the facilities are. There is a drying room, dining area, kettle and many sockets to charge devices. Clean bathrooms and showers. It was my second stay here and I'll be back again.

Booked a last-minute stay at Blackwater as I was in the area and wanted to stay on a bit longer. I had a warm welcome when I arrived and all the staff there I encountered were super friendly. The campsite was busy when I was there, but it was quiet and well maintained and the facilities are clean and well kept. The pod was very comfortable and had everything I needed for a couple of nights. The campsite location is perfect, it's really peaceful right on the river but is close to the supermarket, pubs and takeaways, so it has everything you need. Definitely looking forward to staying there again!
