Nantgwyn Camping offers 10 tent pitches, set across a 55-acre sheep farm, just 3 miles from the Ceredigion coast and 17 miles from the Cambrian mountains. It is a peaceful place, with 10 acres of wild habitat and woodland to explore, with views of surrounding farmland, the village of Oakford and, in the distance, the sea.

About Nantgwyn Camping

Nantgwynfynydd Uchaf is a 55 acre sheep farm near Aberaeron on the west coast of Wales. The name Nantgwynfynydd means "pure mountain stream," named after the stream that rises on the farm and runs through Oakford before eventually joining the sea a few miles down the coast. A small number of tent-only pitches are located in fields around the farm. For old and young alike, serviced toilet tents are provided to each pitch. Especially great for extended family groups who can have their own field. Some fields have hammocks hung under the alder trees or swings hung from ancient oaks. It is a back-to-basics site where you can enjoy peace and tranquillity without road noise. At night, sit around your campfire watching bats and stars in the dark night skies. You can collect fallen wood for your campfire from an area of woodland, or buy logs and kindling. Fire bowls are provided. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but there are sheep on the farm and so close control must be exercised and all mess cleared up. Open to members of the Greener Camping Club (£12 annual membership)

Open from 1 May to 30 September

Facilities and amenities

Two family shower rooms with WCs are situated in the farm yard for your use during daylight hours, with a toilet tent and portable WC available to each pitch (cleaned daily). A well-water standpipe is connected in each field, with mains drinking water in the farm yard.

The converted dairy has a kitchen with washing-up facilities and fridge space.

The farm is highly eco-conscious, using their own wood for heating in winter, spring water for stock in the fields, eating their own veg, fruit and meat, and generating more electricity than they use from solar panels on the old dairy roof.

A note from the site themselves...

We offer space to enjoy nature - flowers, trees, birds, rabbits, foxes and badgers. We try to tread lightly on the Earth. Photovoltaics on the dairy roof provide hot water in the summer, and we used firewood from our hedgerows and woodland for campfires and to heat the house in the winter. Don't throw away beer and cider bottles, we will reuse these for our elderflower pressée and apple juice.

We also feel that having clean and spacious facilities makes quite a big difference to any camping adventure. That and having use of the large dry barn when the great British weather is not so kind!

Children and adults alike can make dens in the 10 acres of wild habitat and woodland, explore, welly walk in the streams and help collect wood for the campfire.
