Clear filters Basic and inadequate Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 Our recent stay at Mount Douglas Campsite was deeply disappointing and raised several serious concerns.
To begin with, the facilities were grossly inadequate. The showers were scalding hot with no temperature control, posing a clear safety hazard, particularly to children. The push-button function cut off every 10 seconds, making basic hygiene unnecessarily difficult. In addition, the absence of hot water at the sinks meant washing and shaving were unpleasant and unhygienic. With only three showers serving the entire site, guests are forced to queue during peak times — totally unacceptable for a paying facility.
Even more concerning, the electric hook-up point was buried inside a spiky bush, making access both physically dangerous and poorly designed. This could easily lead to injury or electrical hazard — something we consider borderline negligent.
Noise levels were also out of control. New guests were allowed to arrive and set up camp at 1am, complete with shouting, swearing, and loud inflators — again, demonstrating a lack of enforcement of any basic quiet hours or guest conduct policies.
We were also told, upon arrival, that payment was "cash only." This was highly inconvenient.
To be clear: we did not arrive with unrealistic expectations. We expected basic. But what we experienced was substandard, unsafe, and disorganised — far below even the minimum standards one should expect from a UK-registered campsite.
The only redeeming feature is the location — scenic and convenient for access to St. Ives. But no setting can compensate for such a lack of professionalism, safety, and accountability.

With respect to the showers these have been turned down a notch and now the timings have been mentioned to us, we have taken apart a spare shower controller and have figured a way to extend the time they remain in longer. The issue you experienced with the sinks as also also been resolved.
We take on board your considerations on queue times however, this has never been an issue we have been made aware of as we find campers are staggered with their times on coming back and wanting showers etc.
We also note and take on board your comments regarding the electric hook up points and recall two members of your party raising this to us. However, it was concluded there was an issue with your EHU cable, for which we provided an alternative for your stay.
We are not aware of the disturbance you may of encountered with us, but on review of the bookings, there were few arrivals during the time with us. However, we appreciate you may have experienced some disruption for one reason or another.
The matter of being cash only is now being advised to all campers so they are fully aware before their stay. We would like to add we are very relaxed in when payment can be made and don't expect payment straight away if campers do not have cash to hand.
Whilst we on the whole disagree with your comments regarding lack of professionalism, safety and accountability, we appreciate your time in leaving a review and believe we have resolved a number of your points raised with regard to facilities.
Lovely, peaceful campsite and friendly staff
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 We loved this campsite for its location near the beach, really peaceful site and good facilities.
Staff were super friendly and helpful and managed to squeeze us in for an extra night's stay. Bonus of a microwave, fridge and freezer.
Lovely and clean, showers were just too hot unfortunately with no option to turn down, especially with children using them. However, a fantastic stay and would visit again!

Lovely campsite close to St Ives
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 A lovely campsite really close to St. Ives. The pitches are nice and wide.
The bus stop to St Ives is 5 mins away. Very close to Porthkidney beach which is brilliant to take your dog to for a nice seaside walk.

Really nice and friendly staff at a clean site Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 Pleasant, friendly staff. Clean toilets and showers, reasonable size site.
What lets it down and never mentioned on any reviews is the noisy road. Not the campsite's fault, but we were rudely woken up at 7:00am by the building site on the other side of the road. Fork lift trucks and diggers were going backwards and forwards.

Great, friendly site Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 Beautiful campsite, clean and friendly. Phil was very helpful (I'll practice some more with the trailer before we come back 🤣) Lovely location. Couldn't ask for more and will definitely return.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 First time visiting St. Ives and Carbis Bay.
The campsite is 20 min walk to Carbis beach and station. Close to the A30 and near to Tesco's by drive and Costcutters is less then 10 minutes walk.
There are fridges and freezers on site to store your food. Clean showers and toilets to use. They also offer the hire of pit fire and wood. There are restaurants near by as well as as a places to eat breakfast. All less then 10 minutes walk.
I had a relaxed and quiet time. The other campers where friendly and quiet. The pitches where big enough. Nobody on your doorstep! It was a pleasant and enjoyable trip.

Clean, awesome hot showers all times of the day, laundry and wash up facilities, reasonable price and the staff are so friendly. This is our second visit and we will definitely be back again.

The pitch sizes were good and it never got cramped. Easy access to the beach, a train station and lovely walks. Would definitely go again!

Great little campsite
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 Great little campsite! Really close to Carvis Bay and St Ives and easy to access Lands End and Penzance! The facilities were really good, plenty of them and clean. Had fridges and a freezer, washing up facilities and a washer and dryer.
The only negative would be that to pay what is left that you owe, has to be in cash so had to go and get money out.

A proper campsite!
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 We stayed here for 2 nights on July 1st. On arrival, we made a quick call to Phil who was with us in minutes and was attentive, chatty and helpful throughout our visit. He was busy, friendly and was a pleasure to chat to, as was Zoe.
The pitches were large, the views were far and superb. Location excellent for walkers, and cyclists alike - but beware the hills. The beach (Carbis Bay) is really close, but, oh my, the hill! However, well worth it as it had lovely sand, sea and place to eat and drink. Shops within walking distance, big Tesco not very far but a car trip, unless you are using bikes like us. Carbis Bay train station is within walking distance and costs £1 into St Ives (we took our bikes on) - then you have a whole new day ahead!
Water, showers, toilets and sockets, if not on EHU, available for everyone.
The only thing I would suggest or like is a shelf in the toilets - I have a hidden disability, so found that a bit tricky, but know this is a work in progress for a lot of places, but hopefully will start to see more of these.
But the most wonderful thing, campfires with real logs! It's encouraged and Phil was helping those that were struggling to get theirs going too. They have stands and also bags of chopped wood. We took paper logs in the hope were allowed to pop them on our Smokey Joe, but we just had to buy a bag of Phil's logs (£5), absolute bargain! We sat out and just watched the flames and the stars, and a fabulous location wishing we were staying longer!

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2023 Excellent location with a short walk to Carbis Bay and the train station and only a 3 min train journey into St Ives, so we didn't have to go out in the motorhome once we'd parked up!
Really friendly staff and great facilities, will be coming back again!

Very close to St Ives
Motorhome - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2023 This site is very close to St Ives, so it gets 5 stars just for that. The site is on a slope so levelling a motorhome needs some care.
The only real issue is the construction work taking place across the road (July 2023). If you can get a pitch on the far side of the site, all the better as they start at 8am and it's noisy. Also do not try to turn right into the site entrance with a motorhome, go past, turn round 100 metres along the road and turn into the entrance turning left.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2023 Super pitch helpful staff and a lovely view.
Super overnight pitch up and go. Facilities perfectly adequate. I used the dryer which was good value for money.
Pitch was spacious and the view was great. The guy in the cabin was very helpful.

Quiet area with a neighbourhood of horses and beautiful landscapes.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming, bus stop to St Ives is just 10min from the campsite, so great location.
Definitely will be coming back!
