About the site


This back-to-basics and off-grid site nestles on the outskirts of West Dereham, 15 minutes from Thetford Forest, surrounded by unspoilt greenery and woodland. Ideal for nature lovers, scenic walks are on your doorstep, including a route to the River Wissey, which is just under an hour's stroll through farmland. Gooderstone Water Gardens and Nature Trail can be reached in a 15 minute drive. Guests can choose from 15 non electric grass tent pitches (8m x 5m), suitable for tents, roof tents and trailer tents, or from five non electric grass motorhome pitches (8m x 5m) for motorhomes and campervans. Fire pits and communal picnic benches are provided. For days out, the historic city of Ely is a 30 minute drive, where you can explore Oliver Cromwell's House or enjoy local eateries. King's Lynn is also a 30 minute drive, home to the Lynn Museum, and ten minutes further lies the medieval Castle Rising. Please note that there are no shower facilities at the site. Dogs are welcome to join your stay. Campfires and BBQs are encouraged, with fire pits provided for toasting marshmallows or relaxing under the stars. Logs are available to buy onsite.

Shower facilities are not available onsite, so guests will need to make their own arrangements. There are two composting toilets and access to mains water. As there is no electricity, be sure to bring torches and spare batteries.

There are plenty of spacious meadows for ball games and four-legged friends to roam. Fire pits are provided, and logs can be purchased onsite. Guests can hire tents, and the site offers to pick up guests from public transport for a fee.

Downham Market is a ten minute drive away, with a Tesco Superstore and Morrisons for picking up essentials. Arbuckles Restaurant and Bar and Rose and Crown are a five minute drive serving food and drinks.

* Quiet hours must be respected between 9:30pm and 8am.

Things to do on site and in the Downham Market area

Horses are welcome to join your camping adventure, with the site offering a small paddock, horse box parking, and direct access to scenic off-road hacking routes.

History enthusiasts will find plenty to explore in the area, starting with Oxburgh Estate, just a ten minute drive away. For those interested in medieval history, the Castle Acre Priory ruins can be reached in 30 minutes. 35 minutes away, the Peckover House and Garden offers a Georgian townhouse to explore as well as Victorian gardens.

Walkers and nature lovers are well situated, with nearby trails at Lynford Arboretum (20 minutes) and Brandon Country Park (30 minutes), offering woodland paths and plenty of space for dogs to roam freely.

For those after a sea breeze, the coast can be reached in 45 minutes for trips to Snettisham Beach and Heacham South Beach. Popular Old Hunstanton Beach is 45 minutes away.
