Great stay! Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2026 We enjoyed our stay at Low Hollows campsite.
The bathroom and showers were good and clean with hot water! Plenty of space for privacy. It is next to a busy road though so there is some noise coming. The campsite has rules but no one to enforce them to the best of our knowledge (we had some noisy tent neighbours going until 12:30am).
Beautiful location Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2026 The site is in a beautiful location surrounded by the stunning mountain landscape, also meaning you are not far from many trails.
We arrived around 8pm and we didn't see any signs in regards to "checking in" so we just pitched up and didn't experience any issues in doing so. Most of the site is on a slight slope so to take in consideration when pitching.
There is only one facility block at the top of the bank which can be a bit of a walk in the night, depending on where you pitch and could also expect a bit of a queue in a morning. However, facilities kept in excellent condition, always clean. Although we didn't use the services provided by the site, we were aware they do a decently sized fire pit hire and sell logs at the site which is a nice touch if you don't feel like lugging a fire pit with you to save some space in the car.
In all, we will definitely be returning to this campsite in future!
No complaints Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2026 Campsite was great, no issues other than the men's showers got a bit grubby if you were towards the back of the queue, but unless there was someone on site at peak shower time, there's probably no way of helping the other campers being messy.
Thanks for a great stay!
Nice quiet site Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Nice quiet site, only two male toilets and showers but it’s all you expect from a site. Nice and clean. Had a lot worse
Great spot for Blencathra Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Good views of Blencathra, good warm showers and toilets. Not far from Keswick by car.
Northern Fells hiking base Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Low Hollows is ideally placed for quick road access to the Northern Fells. Fans of Blencathra can hike directly from the campsite.
Showers are fantastic ( mixer type) although there’s now privacy for wash basins.
Check in was very quick and people were pleasant to talk to.
A very affordable campsite with clean facilities Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Wonderful location situated in front of Blencathra. Very peaceful. The campsite provides showers without charging and more unexpectedly, there were a few Swallow nests with lots of juveniles, which highlighted the stay. :)
Low Hollows Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Stunning View of Blencathra
Left early Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2026 Unfortunately, we had a poor experience at Low Hollows and chose to cut our stay short.
While the campsite itself was fine and expectedly basic as described, the site rules were completely unpoliced.
Shortly after we pitched in a quiet corner of the bottom field, a massive group arrived and surrounded us. They set up a party tent with speakers and disco lights, playing loud music which oddly started at 11 (the noise cut off) and continued to make noise until 1:30 am. Despite the site’s policy against large groups and noise after hours, there was no management present to enforce it. The situation felt unsafe for my wife and five-year-old son, particularly when members of the group began to start their cars after having a drink. The final straw occurred at 11:00 pm when I caught two individuals from the group snooping around our tent and vehicle we managed a couple of hours sleep before taking our tent down and going home. Due to the complete lack of site management and safety enforcement, we will not be returning and I wouldn’t recommend the site for families.
Pleasant stay at Low Hollows Campsite Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2026 We had a pleasant stay at Low Hollows Campsite.
Everything was as we expected from the information provided. The facilities are fairly basic, but they were clean and well maintained throughout our stay. The campsite is set on a slope, so it's worth keeping that in mind when choosing a pitch, but it wasn't a problem for us.
Overall, a peaceful campsite and a good base for exploring the area.
A tale of 2 nights! Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 I could do a 2 star review for the first night and a 5 star for the second!
We arrived late day one and got a pitch of a pretty steep incline, which meant a dodgy night's sleep all round. The toilets were fine, but not enough for the size of the place so expect queues.
However, in the daylight we saw the lower fields had much more level ground, we found a nice spot and night 2 was so much better.
Incredible views and easy access to (a pretty tough) Blencathra trail if you're planning on going up!
Lovely Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 Lovely campsite very chilled, no one was on check in but loads of space to choose from. Shower was cold on a night but other than that perfect
Great stay with all you might need Recommends site
Roof Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 Great campsite with great facilities
Showers were great and the toilets were fairly clean. Everything you might need is there
September camping and walking Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Sep 2025 Perfect placement for a walk up Blencathra. The campsite has fantastic views. Close to the main road so some traffic noise but very convenient for access from the M6.
Good basic facilities. Nice warm shower and washing up water. Pick your own spot. Good value for money. I didn't go to the pub in Threlkeld but it's not far to walk.
Had a fab weekend at the foot of Blencathra Recommends site
Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Great site, quite big which we had not realised. We pitched closer to A66 which meant we could hear the cars going.
Amazing views, campsite right at the bottom of Blencathra. Close to Keswick but still enough distance to feel remote. Amazing part of the Lake District. Showers and toilets which were quite busy in the morning and evening. Not sure how often they were cleaned as they appeared in need to a wipe.
The only down during our stay were roadworks and A66 was closed towards Keswick and the traffic was diverted through the campsite. We couldn't go anywhere and were stuck 'breathing' the passing traffic. It wasn't camp's fault but affected our stay.
Great location and value Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Fantastic location at the base of Blencathra and short drive to Keswick is the main attraction of this campsite.
Nearly all of the site is on a slope but a little less so in the lower fields, but these are further away from the facilities. If it is wet, I would suggest not to take you car onto the field but park it on the hardstanding. Even a heavy dew can create a challenge in getting you car off the sloping lower field.
Facilities are basic and limited (on a busy weekend you can find yourself queueing to use the toilet or shower).
I have never seen any obvious member of staff on my 2 stays at this site but fortunately had no problem that would have needed their help.
Despite the drawbacks mentioned, the low cost and fantastic location mean I would come back again.
Great weekend Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Great site just outside of Keswick.
Incredible site Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Incredible site. My first time camping and the views were amazing!
Would recommend this site to anyone looking for somewhere that wants the wild camp feeling but with the luxury of having toilets and showers.
Will be returning!
Happy campers Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Right next to Keswick but away from all the summer chaos.
Facilities were clean and the showers were hot and stayed hot. I would say that the facilities are busy in the morning and evening. We asked to hire a wood burner and it was dropped off in minutes.
We didn't see any staff on arrival. Just a sign saying find a pitch and set up if you have paid.
Overall, good value for money, very nice views surrounding the site. Would be more than happy to book again. Thanks.
Camping on hills Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 It's important to know that the campsite is basically farmland right next to a major road and the main paddock is on a hill with a significant slope (at least 10%).
There's really no check in or reception, though rubbish seemed to be taken away regularly and the toilets/showers are clean and usable, even if there's not many of them.
Great site! Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Perfect site that has the basics, clean toilets, showers and dish washing facilities. Great location for heading into the fells and about a 25 minute walk to the pubs in Threlkeld.
Near the A66 so can be a bit noisy during the day, but it's quiet at night.
Great views Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Great location walks, threlkeld mine museum not far away for the kids...
Great views as well.
Weekend stay Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 Me and my partner stayed for 2 nights this weekend just gone.
The campsite had lovely views and had the basic amenities that you needed. The first field is quite sloped but we managed to find a more level spot a bit lower down and had plenty of room. It is in a good location- a short drive to Keswick and some lovely wild swimming spots, we completed Cat Bells, Thirlmere infinity pools and Black Moss Pot which were all fairly close.
The only downside was that there were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for females and the same for males and at one point, one of the toilets were blocked which meant queuing - in the morning, when its busy, you had to queue for a fair bit for a shower as well.
I didn't see an office where you could go to speak to any staff but there was a sign with a number on to call (we didn't need to).
Camping in the rain Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2025 We booked 2 nights but only stayed 1 due to the weather.
The site was beautifully picturesque and the showers and toilets were clean and well maintained.
We will be back to enjoy this site again - hopefully with the weather on our side
2 nights camping Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2025 I have been here a couple of times now.
Convenience straight of the M6, just 1 road to the site, remote site with views of the mountains.
I would recommend it.
