About the site

Kelburn's historic estate includes a castle that dates back to the 13th century, stunning gardens and atmospheric moorland. Its unique makeover is thanks to a talented team of artists, but there are also acres of tempting grounds to be explored. Campers can relax on grass pitches or pop their tourer on a limited number of hardstandings, with parking available in a car park close to the pitch. Between the pitches, you'll find fire pits dotted around and picnic benches so that you can take in the view. Kelburn's three yurts are attractive, spacious and cosy thanks to a wood burning stove in each and a double bed with single roll mattresses to sleep four or six people. Settle down around the fire pit outside to take in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and if you get a clear night, watch the stars come out. The site's pavilion is an important venue for private events, and during these limited dates, you might hear the sound of buzzing festivities at night, whereas for most of the year, it's a relaxed and back to nature experience. Dogs are welcome to stay on the campsite, but are unable to be accommodated in the Yurts.

Open from 4 April to 30 September

A note from the site themselves...

Things to do on site and in the Largs area

The estate is home to its own fun and entertainment, acting as the setting for themed events throughout the year (and especially in the festive period), plus the fabulous Kelburn Garden Party - an iconic summer festival.

But you can also stay outside of event times and still have a packed list of things to do, from touring the iconic castle to adventures with the family in the Never Ending Glen.

The little ones can burn off their energy in the secret forest, stealing their way past swamps and tree lined pathways and there's a quiz at the end to see who's the best explorer. On rainy days, bring them inside to the play barn, give them a browse of the estate museum and much more.

Other local attractions include:

  • Largs Pencil Monument (5 minutes)
  • Eglinton Country Park (30 minutes)
  • Greenock Cut Visitor Centre (30 minutes)
  • Eglinton Castle (30 minutes)
