Affordable but uncompromising campsite Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Lovely brief stay, the campsite has all you could want.
Lovely stay in this campsite! Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Located on a sheep farm, this campsite is remote in a great area, about 20 mins from Coniston and 40 from Windermere.
The campsite has great facilities, clean showers/ toilets, fridge freezer, washing up sink and even a washing machine.
The owner is lovely, and you will see the farmers working with the sheep. It really felt like a unique stay - would recommend :)
Wonderful location Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 A real get away from it all location with a warm welcome.
Really lovely, peaceful, rural site with stunning views Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Basic, but does the job. Great pitch, stunning views, lovely location. Basic showers and toilets. Good washing up area. Great to be on a farm and surrounded by sheep and cows. Really idyllic.
Excellent Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Beautiful location, very well run site. Good for the southern lakes, the coast and the Furness peninsula.
Fantastic Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Great little site!
Fantastic experience for a family Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 We (2 adults and a 7 year old) decided to choose this campsite because it had toilet and shower facilities, and drinking water, plus a good location in the Lake District.
When you see the entrance to the site you feel about uncertain but once there, you understand that it's in the middle of nowhere within a working sheep farm. Everyone there was friendly and got us sorted to be set up and the site itself was very clean and after 10:30pm it was all very quiet.
Fantastic views from the site, a couple of easy walks and about 20 minutes away from the closest town with large shops and takeaway food options. We would definitely recommend this site and for £20 a night if ever we decide to visit this place again. It's not a negative but signal was bad so plan ahead, downloading maps and shows etc.
Wonderful place to stay Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 This is a wonderful campsite. The host was excellent and the views are stunning.
Everything was kept clean and tidy and all the campers were friendly and considerate. Would highly recommend.
What a gem - simply beautiful Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 We've just come back from our week camping at Birchbank with our children. We had the best week.
The views from our tent were simply stunning, rolling hills and sheep. The campsite was so peaceful & beautiful and our boys loved the chickens coming to say hello. Shower & toilet block was always clean & well stocked with toilet paper etc. The location was perfect for us, we explored the closest lakes Coniston & Windermere and we had brilliant day trips, climbing hills & swimming in lakes.
We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to the Lake District. Also to add, the owner was very happy & helpful and we could even buy fresh eggs from her.
Another relaxing stay Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Love this place. Beautiful surroundings and views. My favourite drive to a campsite I've ever been to!
Nights at the farm around the sheep Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 The camping is on a farm in the middle of the fields with cattle. Good, narrow way to come there.
Host are very friendly and helpful, camping and facilities are clean and simple. Enough space around every tent.
Site's response
The cattle are not in the field with the campers but may be in the adjoining fields.
Great stay Recommends site

Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 This campsite is a real gem - set on a farm with stunning views, it offers a peaceful escape away from the city.
The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, making it perfect for families who want to enjoy nature and spend quality time together.
A wonderful place to recharge and take in the beauty of the countryside.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Couldn't ask for anything better. Everything we needed in a beautiful location with great walks right from the site.
Family stay - 2 adults, 2 children Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 This is our second visit to the lovely Birchbank Camping Site - and we will be returning in the future for a third!
For families/couples/small groups looking for a "back to nature" camping experience this is your place. The camping site is on a working farm nestled in unbelievably picturesque countryside. There are many fantastic walking trails nearby and the town of Ulverston which is a 10ish minute drive from the campsite has all the restaurant/food choices you could wish for should your camp site cooking skills not be so great!
Site owner/manager is a very lovely lady.
I would highly recommend this site for a "back to basics" camping holiday - we love it!

Perfect campsite Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2025 Booked Birchbank Campsite for 2 nights away with my partner. The woman who runs the place was lovely and showed us where everything was and where to pitch up.
The facilities were basic but everything you required, showers were great and the overall standards of bathroom facilities was impeccable. The site is located in the middle of nowhere but is within short distance of the Lakes and shops.
Very quiet with great views of the countryside, would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be back to stay again! Thank you Birchbank for a great time.
Wonderful Recommends site
Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 Really enjoyed our stay. Facilities were kept clean. Access to fridge and washing machine/dryer was very helpful.
Picturesque Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 This site may be basic for some of you, but it was perfect for us.
The facilities are in old stone farm buildings. There is a room near the door you call at on arrival, that houses a fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. A small room for pot washing, shower room and toilet. Then in the gated area of the site, there is a room 2 individual toilets, a cubical with wash basin and mirror, shower cubicle and at the end is a family space with basin, mirror, toilet and roomy shower. They are definitely cleaned regularly, as I witnessed this many many times. Outside is 2 water taps.
The owner is lovely, as was everyone we met. The children loved playing in the stream, watching the sheep and seeing them plus cows and horses roaming the hillsides as well as giving the farm cat lots of attention. Enjoyed watching the sheep been brought in off the hills to the shed to be sheared. I would definitely return in the future.
Basic but has everything you need Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 Excellent site, quiet and very basic, but had exactly what we needed and wanted out of our stay.
Our only criticism is that we arrived late and all the level pitches were taken.
Only three showers and three toilets, but we never had to wait to use one! Freezer and fridge available to use as well as a washing machine.
A great campsite! Recommends site
Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 A lovely little campsite! Clean and well maintained.
Good site Recommends site
Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 A nice and remote site with lots of space and walking routes around.
There were some loud tractor noises in the morning when we stayed but it is a working farm so that's to be expected and it didn't disturb us. The facilities were clean and well maintained.
I didn't get any signal on the site but my partner on Vodafone did, so was nice to disconnect without being completely cut off. Very quiet and chilled out on a night time.
Family camping trip Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025 Loved this very rural site… brilliant location and adequate facilities. The only thing I didn’t like was they only provide mixed toilet and shower blocks.
I don’t like mixed as I hate having to take our 7 year old granddaughter into toilets/showers men have been in. I also don’t like this for myself. I don’t think it is acceptable.
