Sprinter-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel and Grass Super Pitches (Red Area, Unit C)Dec 2025

This is a wonderful place to stay in the winter season. Staff are welcoming and warm, the site is well maintained and the showers are hot. With it being a short walk into Wem, it is ideally situated, the town has all facilities that you'd need. A peaceful, carefree stay. I will visit again.

Medium Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitches (Top Field, Unit A) Pet FreeAug 2025

Never been camping before so this was the first time. The lot size was decent and you kind enough of are left alone. Only annoying thing is after 11pm, you have to basically be quiet or people will complain about you, so if you are looking to book for a drink up/fun time, maybe this isn't the place. Do not expect the food to come quick. Saturday morning, waited 2 hours for scrambled egg on toast and they still brought it out wrong. Sunday, waited 30 minutes for a bacon sandwich. They weren't busy when serving they just don't seem to care that you're waiting. Rude and unprofessional service. Don't expect proper toilets and showers, they aren't solid buildings like you would think, they are on wheels and not really the best.

Lovely stay

A note from the site themselves...

What does Lower Lacon Caravan Park mean to me? I have lived on the caravan park for most of my life, it was wonderful to be brought up with nature and the peace that brings.

I'd like to share a bit of our history with you. Our park originally served as the back entrance to the Aston Park American Army Camp, a munitions and distribution depot built during World War II. The land was originally owned by my paternal grandfather before being taken for the war effort.

During the development, a D8 Bulldozer was lost when it sank into the soil. To address this, the Americans covered much of the park with up to three feet of hard-core material from local foundries. This makes pegging a bit tricky, but it ensures our pitches remain firm in any weather.

Our hardstanding pitches were once large Nissen huts from the Army Camp, retaining their original concrete floor bases, with some now topped with tarmac. These pitches are perfect for motorhomes, American RVs, or those who prefer not to park on grass.

In 1971, my parents bought the land back and decided to develop it into a caravan site here in Shropshire. We opened in 1974 with 60 pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes, and tents. Back then, the site spanned 30 acres, had no electricity, and featured only a small shop and a single toilet block, smaller than our current facilities.

We charged just 66p per night. To support the park's development, my family continued market gardening on nearby land.

Nowadays, I enjoy the challenges of running the business and giving people the best holidays we can, while still trying to look after nature. We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We have been running on green electric for many years now and have a little solar. We recycle as much as possible and have recycling facilities for customers, also.

I believe it's the little things that add up to make a big difference to the environment, like when we need to have any trees cut, we leave most of the trunks in the woods to rot, providing food for the insects. In turn, this provides food for small birds and other wildlife and also leaves some areas of grassland mainly untouched. But there is definitely more to do.

Although, like any business, we're not perfect. We are trying to provide a good family holiday with as minimal an impact on the environment as possible, so that we can give the best holidays we can with minimal impact on wildlife.

We hope to welcome you soon,

The team at Lower Lacon Caravan Park.
