Shepreth Mill is a great spot to set up camp alongside a river, a great base for exploring Cambridgeshire. Campers and tourers are welcome on both the non electric grass and electric hardstanding pitches. This is a small site where dogs are welcome.

Can only be described as strange. Booked online via this website for 3 nights, but in view of weather, decided not to go for first night, so I rang the number I had been given to be told the site had changed hands and was given new number. No answer so left voicemail asking for return call, no return call, so I rang again, spoke to a young lady and explained, no problem. The Monday (when we were due that day) I got a call from the owner asking where we were, so I explained, again, and said would be down on Tuesday. Tuesday lunch time, en-route, I had another call asking if we were visiting, said, well yes, as I explained yesterday it would be in the afternoon. Arrived at site and there was no one around, so rang number and the chap turned up. He asked if we wanted hardstanding or not, explained we had booked online for hardstanding. Hardstanding pitches were very close together (unless you have an end pitch) and he explained the loo block was due to be demolished and rebuilt, but no evidence of that. The loo block was tired, information on the walls faded and peeling off, but it was clean. He then asked it we were paying by bank transfer, said no idea, hadn't even had time to get the caravan steadies down. Got sorted, and he came back again asking how we were paying, getting a little pushy. He then said he charged extra for electric and the basic price was more that we had booked for. I said we had paid a deposit online, but he asked us to pay the full amount. I offered to pay for the missing night (that was only correct as he could have lost another booking) but at the booked for price, less the deposit. He said he wouldn't charge for the Monday, so the amount asked for was the same as we would have paid for the original booking money. He then again asked about payment, well, we had cash and he took that (always intended to pay cash) and reluctantly gave us a hand written receipt. All very strange. No information provided re local walks or pubs, however, we met the young lady previously mentioned and she was very pleasant. Would I stop here again, a 'no', all left a very nasty taste in the mouth, yet it has the basis of being a very nice site.

A lovely location. This site is in its infancy, and they're working on improvements. Unfortunately, it seemed that the site may have been overbooked, resulting in it being a bit crowded. Not the site's fault.

This park is very nice and not to noisy, baring in mind it is just off the main road. The only let down is the toilet and shower blocks. I believe the owners now have planning to build a new block but the old are very tired and there isn't a huge amount of privacy. All in all we would definitely return and hopefully see the new toilet block in place on our next visit.
Great little find

New owners on this site who have some good plans to update the site. Owners make you feel welcome and are on hand if you need anything. Facilities let the place down but were spotless. Looking forward to going back again before and after all the updates. Local pub had a massive garden for children and the Sunday roast was really good. Only a 5 minute walk away.
Great relaxing break

This is a great site. The new owners are a great couple & very friendly & helpful. We had a great time. Very quiet & relaxing. Owners have put in for planning permission to build a new shower & toilet block that I am sure will make it even better. Local pub with in walking distance. Unfortunately for us, dogs were not allowed inside, but during the warmer weather it will be fine to eat outside in the spacious garden.

Fine for first night of season. Plenty of hot water. Tony very pleasant. He has significant plans to improve the site, but admittedly quite a basic site until that's been done. Would be interesting to come back next year and see the changes.
Good site located centrally to many attractions

Nice little site just off main road, friendly and accommodating. We were only there one night having to leave early to return rented motorhome, so did not get a chance to check out all the local walks. Had a pint at the Green Man, new owners just taken over. Late afternoon Friday pub was popular with local trades people, did not try the food.
Very pleasant stay

Stayed two nights. Extremely handy for the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. Very friendly owner who greeted us and gave us all information on nearest shops takeaways and pub (which is 10-15mins down the road). Site it self is quite level and lovely and quiet. Facilities are basic but adequate. The price is right for this site and value for your money.

Great place to stay for visiting Duxford or Cambridge City. Toilets and showers could do with a bit of an upgrade.
A very small site

This is a very small site, which we booked as it was close to Duxford Museum. The pitch is one big grass area surrounded by trees. It was quite busy but not too crowded. This place is really let down by the showers and toilets. The toilet door is an old Louvre cupboard door that offers scant privacy. The shower is dingy and damp, it was so uninviting, I didn't use it. I found another one near the entrance but that was even worse. Outside there are sinks to wash up, but there is not enough hot water so it runs out and you have to wait to reheat. There is loads of information of local attractions etc but some are impossible to read. It could be a great little site but the toilet block does need work.
Site's response
Plans are well under way to rebuild the toilet block, as we know it is perhaps not at its best. I have been unwell and been unable to get on with the jobs. We plan to also clean out the river and set some lovely plants in it. We could cover the area with concrete and tarmac but it would no longer be a campsite because we like to think that campsites need grass! I love the connection to people coming here and help them to visit places all around the area, if I didn't make myself known to you I am sorry, this place will re-emerge renewed sooner rather than later.

Stayed for a few nights en route home. The owner was really accommodating allowing us to adjust our dates at late notice. Perfect spot for walking and sightseeing in Cambridge. Train station is a lovely walk along the river. Local pub is about a 10 min walk and serves lovely food. Facilities are basic but spotlessly clean. Wildlife in abundance.

Although we booked a hard standing, electric was extra which we decided not to take so the owner moved us to the grass. Ground was firm and well kept so no issues. Site is a lovely little paddock area with basic shower and wash up facilities, all very clean but a bit rickety - which adds to its charm. Surrounded by lovely trees, birds and a Beautiful wildlife pond. Even thought the site is by the A10 it's set back and extremely quiet. Green man pub is about a five minute walk out and left. Duxford is about a 30min cycle through lanes and fields. We enjoyed the piece and quiet so asked to stay an extra night. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Money well spent!

Camp owners lovely and helpful. A pretty tranquil site with access to local villages and pubs and also some good cafes mid walking.
