Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2025

Beautiful location, friendly staff. Shame that the toilet block was miles away from the camping grounds, a bit of a hassle for little legs. Quite expensive, but worth it. Advice: million of local crows wake up at 4.30am in summer. Take your ear plugs.

Only booked last minute for 1 night but will definitely be back for longer, dog friendly with good walks close by. Showers were warm and clean and so were the toilets, lady on reception was very helpful and friendly couldn't ask for more really, look forward to booking again for longer. Craig n Andrea

Site's response

Thank you Craig and Andrea for your lovely review. We shall look forward to welcoming you back when you will have more time to explore this lovely region.

Medium Tent - Electric Grass PitchesMay 2025

The weather was sunny and that really helped the atmosphere. There were fish and chips on offer from a van on the Friday night we arrived. We stayed on one of the electric pitches in the camping field and it was great, no issues with the supply at all. Everyone was very friendly. The toilet and shower block wasn't too far but you do have to walk across gravel at some bits which might be uncomfortable for thin flip-flops. The showers and toilets were very clean and had everything you needed, but there could have been more than 4 showers? The birds were nesting in the surrounding trees while we were there and it was noisy but we put it down to nature.

Site's response

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review Thomas. Your comments are really appreciated. We love your description of Lakeside as 'a hidden gem'. Steve's fish and chips are very tasty and there is also the option of having pizzas, burgers and kebabs delivered to site. Our facilities have nine showers in total which understandably can get busy, especially at weekends in the camping season, more so when the weather is glorious as it has been recently! We hope that one day you will visit again.

Site was clean as were the toilets, great location for a visit to the Arboretum. Had a lovely walk around the lake in the morning too.

Site's response

Many thanks Matt for your positive review. We're lucky to have so much to see and do in this beautiful area. The Arboretum is a fantastic place to visit all year round as the trees change with the seasons. We hope you will come back one day.

Roof Tent - Electric Hardstanding Touring PitchesMay 2025

Our first night away in a roof top tent or tentbox. Campsite way better then we was expecting our pitch right next to the lake with lake view. Site very clean toilets spotless. Reception staff really helpful. Would I stay again? Too right I would 😁

Site's response

Thanks Kevin. Lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay. The lake really is beautiful at any time of the day. We'll pass your comments on to our cleaning and reception teams who do a great job.

The walk along the lake is lovely with a clear view of Castle Howard. Facilities were oaky but not very clean.

We had a great pitch, most of the time, all we could hear were the birds singing and watched some collecting things to build their nests. Great location for walking round the gardens and grounds of Castle Howard. Nice short walk along the side of the Castle Howard lake from the campsite, longer walks can be done.

Site's response

Thank you Jane. We are fortunate to have so much wildlife sharing this lovely area and it is good to know that their contribution to your visit was appreciated.

Lovely stay.

Lovely site and the staff in reception are awesome. As a single camper they really looked after me. Gorgeous site and facilities, nice walks locally and the farm shop at the castle has lovely offerings. Could do to have an explicit time limit on noise though.

Site's response

Awesome! (They will be pleased... and it's great to hear they are doing a super job.) Thank you for your lovely review, we're glad you enjoyed your visit and look forward to seeing you again.

Great location, ruined by kids partying until 4:30am. Lovely place and will come back. Shame about the idiots keeping everyone awake.

Site's response

We're sorry to read that your visit to Lakeside was spoilt by other users, it is, as you say a shame. However we're pleased to hear that it hasn't put you off returning. Once informed about issues on site by our guests our team will do their very best to try and resolve them. We look forward to welcoming you again. Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

Birds, crows, ducks, swans on the water, near the water, in the trees. Just about everywhere. Nice, though.

Site's response

Thank you Richard. 'Canny' is a great word to describe Lakeside which, as you say, is teeming with wildlife. An ornithologist's paradise perhaps?

A lovely quiet site close to Castle Howard, perfect for an Alice in Wonderland tour followed by a cream tea in the courtyard cafe. Site is next to the lake with a lovely view of the house. Would definitely visit again as all the staff were very helpful.

Site's response

We're so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Lakeside and Castle Howard where Christmas really is a lovely spectacle. The theme next Christmas is The Wizard of Oz. We hope to welcome you back.

Twin Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Touring PitchesNov 2024

Beautiful surroundings, the site was small and comfortable. I found the pitches on the side were quite small compared to other sites we have stayed at. You had to park your car in front of you caravan, so when another guest arrived and was staying on a pitch a bit further along, it was quite tight. Lovely setting and very quiet, would recommend to others if they wanted somewhere peaceful.

Site's response

Thank you for your feedback. The peacefulness of the site is often mentioned. Regarding space, pitches include one car. We try to ensure that any extra vehicles are parked in the reception car park to keep our site safe and accessible to all but I will pass your comments to the relevant team.

Nice, quiet site

Lovely site with a nice walk around the lake. The only problem we had were the leaves, our van was covered and with the sticky mess, took an age to wash off. So get a pitch that isn't under the trees. The shop sells some really nice things and the clotted cream fudge is to die for.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring PitchesSep 2024

Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park was a lucky find. Most of the other visitors were very quiet and respectful, and arrived and stayed a couple of days, weekends or week days. The site was easy to navigate and kept clean and tidy, with an ample supply of bins to deposit your rubbish in. The site facilities were central in the tourer field and kept clean and fully stocked. The showers were hot and there were free hairdryers should you need one. There was also an attached washing up room with a washing machine and dryer. Apart from a little bit of bad weather, it was a pleasant and easy stay for us, we are relatively new to the motorhome holiday but found it easy to position our van and place our awning. Thank you for a great stay.

Site's response

What a detailed review! Thank you Stephen. We are pleased to hear that your experience here was a good one.

Made extremely welcome on first arrival. Loads of space, excellent, clean facilities. A little bit noisy at night due to the main road but apart from that, all good.

Lovely to hear that our receptionists gave you a good welcome and thank you for reviewing Lakeside.

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Touring PitchesAug 2024

A beautiful place with stunning surroundings, very peaceful and amazing skies at night due to the lack of light pollution. Great place for the dogs as has a lovely lakeside walk. Facilities cleaned daily, just a shame the shop wasn't open longer and the pub was nearer. Would definitely come back again and again.

Site's response

Many thanks for reviewing Lakeside. We agree; the stars on a dark night really are fantastic and our lovely countryside is great for walking. We hope to welcome you again.
