High Farm Holiday Park is a friendly, family-run campsite with Durham Dales views, just ten minutes from Bishop Auckland. About the site

Situated just 20 minutes from the North Pennines National Park, this is a family-friendly campsite set in the countryside with rural views. For days out, it is also just ten minutes from Hamsterley Forest and Bishop Auckland. For tent campers, there are electric grass tent pitches with 16 amp hook ups. There are also electric gravel tent pitches, perfect for smaller setups. These pitches are 6m x 4m, include electric hook-up and are suitable for tents only. They allow up to three people and are a good year-round option. Touring guests can choose from grass or hardstanding touring pitches, which each measure 6m x 9m. These pitches suit caravans and campervans and also come with 16 amp electric. Each allows up to four people, but twin-axle and commercial vehicles aren't allowed. For glamping, guests can stay in one of the vintage ensuite railway wagons. These cosy wagons sleep two people and include a fold-down double bed with bedding, a kitchen with an oven, fridge, sink and kettle, plus a TV and heating. Each wagon has its own ensuite bathroom with towels provided, and an outdoor deck with seating. One of the biggest highlights of the site is The Paddocks animal area. Guests can meet alpacas, wallabies, rheas and meerkats, along with rabbits, guinea pigs and colourful birds. There's also a children's playground, and feed pots are available. Entry is free for guests staying on site, making it a brilliant bonus for families. Food and drink are available to enjoy too. The Curlew Café serves breakfasts, daily specials and homemade cakes. On Friday and Saturday evenings in peak season, the Curlew Bar offers dinner, cocktails, local beers and a fun atmosphere, with events like live music and bingo on selected nights. For safety, open fires aren't allowed, but BBQs are welcome as long as they're raised off the ground. If guests fancy eating out, there's a pub just a five-minute walk away. Dogs are very welcome, with up to two dogs allowed per pitch and one per railway wagon, and there's even an onsite dog walking area, so four-legged guests can enjoy the holiday too.

The facilities include toilets, individual shower cubicles, each with a drying area, and an accessible wet room with a shower, toilet, grab rails and hand basin. A small block with two toilets is closer to the tent camping area. There is also an outdoor, covered washing up area, a dog walking area, wildlife ponds, a play park and a laundry room.

The Curlew Cafe is open Sunday to Thursday 9.30 to 3.30, and Friday and Saturday 9.30 to 4.30. The Curlew Bar is open seasonally on Fridays and Saturdays 6pm to 10.30pm. Both offer a range of homemade food and drinks (including Sunday lunch, brunch, breakfast coffees and cocktails) with events sometimes hosted. The Paddocks offers a petting zoo and animal feeding (open daily 10.30am to 3pm - weather dependent).

The Sportsman's Inn (Toft Hill) is also a five mintue walk away. For a supermarket, a Tesco Extra, Lidl, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer Foodhall, Aldi and Co-op are all within a ten minute drive.

A note from the site themselves...

Two generations ago, our grandfather Joseph William Thompson had plans to head off to Australia as a "Ten Pound Pom", but life had other ideas. After falling in love with a local girl named Amy, they decided to make their home at High Farm.

They started small, with a handful of hens and a simple milk round, and through hard work and determination, built a family home and farm to pass on through generations.

Our parents, Alan and Edna, later took on the farm, caring for the dairy herd and the land that we grew up around. Over time, both farming and our own lives changed, and traditional farming was no longer the right path for us. Instead, we decided to find a new way forward, one that kept the heart of the farm alive while protecting the countryside we love.

Today, we're delighted to welcome you to High Farm Holiday Park and hope you enjoy sharing a little part of our family's story with us.

The Animal Paddocks are a real highlight of the site and a favourite with families. Guests can meet friendly alpacas, wallabies, rheas and curious meerkats, as well as rabbits, guinea pigs and colourful birds. There's also a playground for children, and feed pots are available so visitors can get a little closer to the animals. Best of all, entry is free for guests staying onsite!

Durham is also just 30 minutes from the site. Visit Durham Castle with its stunning grounds and history, or take a stroll around the city and take in the river views.

Travel 35 minutes from the site and visit the High Force Waterfall, one of the most stunning waterfalls in the UK! There are also plenty of walks and hiking routes nearby.
