My wife and I stayed at the Larches for 3 nights so we could visit the northern lakes. The location was perfect for us as everything we wanted was just a short drive away. If you just want to walk to the nearest town then this is not really possible. There is a good bus service though that will pick you up just down the road. The campsite itself is very peaceful and there was loads of room on our pitch. It was great to have our own shower and toilet. This was immaculately clean and the shower was really hot and powerful. Judith was a great host. She went out of her way to help and advise us and she was great to have a chat with. She pops around the whole campsite each evening to make sure everyone is ok! This was a really nice personal touch as some campsites we have stayed at you hardly speak to any of the owners. We arrived 2 hours early, just on the off chance we would be able to get on site. Judith went out of her way to get our pitch ready and this meant we were able to go out for the afternoon rather than setting up. If you want a really peaceful and relaxed campsite in order to explore the lakes than I would definitely recommend. We have already booked to go back!

When we arrived we were welcomed by a lovely and very welcoming lady. We had the choice of two pitches which was nice, you got your own shower and toilet cubicle allowing some privacy and no waiting for the toilet. Location was great and some great places to eat nearby. We will definitely be visiting again!

The site is remote and dated but clean, good to have your own shower and toilet but with being in a motorhome, another vehicle is needed.

From the greeting we received we knew this was a great place, the pitch we got was great, over looking the countryside rabbit watching, birds coming for a feed was amazing. The facilities were immaculate, you get your own personal shower/toilet cubicle which was fantastic, very clean and quiet adults only campsite, gutted we only booked for one, we will be back in the next month or so.

Different site from the run of the mill sites. This one offers peace, tranquillity, great views and above all a personal service that is friendly and super helpful. Lots of space and your own individual shower room. Lots of birdsong and rabbits galore. Bus stop at the entrance to either Carlisle or Cockermouth. We had a great stay.

4 days & nights at The Larches. Chosen for being adult only. This is a gorgeous site. Hosts very welcoming and basically gave us the choice of pitch as we are tent campers & did not request EHU. We chose to pitch on the top field, wide open space and easy to find a flat area. The views are splendid and the weather was scorching. We had the whole field to ourselves for most of our stay. There are water supply taps all over the site so you are never far from one and plenty of refuse areas too. The dedicated wet room is an absolute clincher as you can just leave whatever you need in there for the duration of your stay and no queuing. Kept very clean and supplied. Be aware: the shower is roasting hot, no temperature control - I like a coolish shower. Laundry/wash-up room has pot sink, clothes sink, washer, dryer, iron ironing board but a word to the wise for campers (by which I mean people in tents): there is no communal fridge/freezer so nowhere on hot, hot days to freeze your cool blocks so either manage that or bring your freezer and get a hook-up pitch. We were subjected to traffic noise due to the wind direction and being up high on the top field. It can be a disturbance to the peace & quiet of the site but if pitched on lower ground, don't think it would a bother. If you like rabbits, you're in for a treat and I think I did get a glimpse of the osprey circling overhead in the pure sunshine. Thanks for a glorious 4 days and we will see you again.

A fantastic one night stay at the Larches. The campsite was so peaceful which is helpful for my dog as he sometimes can bark at noises! We had a choice of our plot which came with electric and water, helpful in the hot weather! The hosts were lovely, we will be sure to return.

Just had the loveliest of weekends at this campsite! Judith had a warm and friendly welcome and guided us around the site. We were very lucky as Judith allowed us to stay in the top field with the most amazing views over the lakes. The Campsite was like Watership Down with bunnies every where, which was lovely to watch with a glass of wine. if your looking for a quiet chilled stay this campsite is for you! What a find! A beautifully maintained, peaceful site, and Judith, the host, was so welcoming and helpful. Absolutely loved the private shower rooms. The views towards Skiddaw from the top field were breath-taking. We cannot wait to come back again.

We stayed at the Larches for 4 nights and on arrival, were met by Judith and Chris, who were so friendly. We had the choice of 2 or 3 pitches as the site was not overcrowded and we also had our own toilet and power shower for the duration of our stay. The site was very clean and well maintained. My husband was even bought a birthday card and the following day Judith phoned to check we got home okay. There's lots to do in the area and if you're looking for a quiet peaceful spot we don't think you'll find much better. We will definitely be returning next year.

An ideal site for those who enjoy peace and quiet. Lots to do nearby. The people who run are very attentive, there is also an Aladdin's cave of caravan equipment for sale in the shop.

I had a fantastic 2 night stay at The Larches. Judith was a wonderful host and the campsite is a great place to stay. I particularly liked the dedicated bathroom, which was spotlessly clean. I slept like a log :-) Can't wait to return next year.

We had a lovely week at The Larches. Judith and family worked hard to keep the site clean, we stayed in a trailer tent and on arrival were given a choice of pitch. The toilet and shower block is kept immaculately clean, a bonus was having your own allocated shower room, complete with a hairdryer. The site is adult only, so we enjoyed peace and quiet. Saw lots of wildlife, birds, rabbits and Owls. It is situated 15 miles from Keswick where we enjoyed market days on Thurs and Saturday, we also visited the Grange at Borrowdale, Penrith and Carlisle Judith and Chris were very friendly, they were relaxed about our late departure due to packing up the tent. We would definitely stay again

The site is located off a busy main road and there are no off road walks from the site. There are regular buses that pass the site and we made good use of them. The site owners are very friendly and helpful and they ensured that we had a pleasant and easy stay. The shower room with hand basin and toilet was dedicated to the pitch and was also heated. The dedicated room ensured that no other users intrude and of course, there is no queueing. Having stayed at the site with our camper van, we made full use of the washing up facility too. We would not hesitate to stay here again if we wanted to be in this area in the future. Thank you, The Larches.

Wow - what a wonderful weekend at this fantastic little campsite. I'd read the reviews and was not disappointed when we got there. I can't add much to everyone else's reviews. Yes, the welcome was lovely, genuine and thorough, proper chatty. Yes the pitch was in great location, all services. Yes, the site was wonderfully peaceful, its capable of catering for far more units but owners by sound, of it by choice, keep it to a really small amount of bookings, which is wonderful for those staying. Yes, the jewel in the crown, the bathroom facilities, never seen a toilet block so clean, so well looked after, absolutely stunning. And the fact you are given your own bathroom and shower facilities for the duration of your stay is just fantastic. A complete bathroom to yourselves, you can leave your wash gear, towels etc in there, all secure, no waiting in the morning or sharing facilities, its all yours. Wonderful, restful weekend, thank you.
