Aerial of the campsite

Just ten minutes from the Lincolnshire Wolds, The Red Lion is a family friendly and welcoming destination set in the grounds of a 19th century coaching inn. There are grass and hardstanding pitches for tents and tourers spread across the one acre site, with the pub serving a range of tasty dishes every day. Skegness is within a half hour's drive from the site, and you'll have walks along the Wolds on your doorstep.

Jul 2025

Although we arrived quite late on the Friday night, it was getting quite dark and we were a little weary from work and our travel to yhe site. We haven't had our caravan long and it was our first try out in it, we were struggling with the electric hook up but Chris at the site came to our aid and made sure we were ok. We cannot thank him enough. Overall a lovely site clean, peaceful and staff were lovely too. We would definitely recommend and I'm sure we will visit again.

Very pleasant stay

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

Easy to find, pre-visit emails give all the info to access site, toilets and pub opening. The emails are quite a slick operation with info on local amenities and shopping. Easy to get to big beaches - shame about the awful Lincs roads. Big play area for kids, pitches are large and well defined. A couple if gripes: no facility to freeze ice packs (showstopper for me) and the lack of privacy on the non electric pitches - even if you put the tent entry to the rear of the pitch, you get campers gawping at you as they walk past. Close off the access - it doesn't exist on the other side of the site.

Site's response

Hi Thank you for your lovely review, we have been working every hard to improve our lovely little campsite, We do have plans to add a laundry room which will contain a freezer but at this time we cannot promise when this will be started or completed. We could have accommodated freezer packs in the freezer of the pub or cafe had we been asked but I'm afraid we had no idea this was needed, we do not suggest that there is freezer space on the site in anyway way, in fact it actually asks us when we do our on line listings if we provided this service and we selected no as it's just not possible at this current time while we continue to improve and grow our little site. As for the privacy of the non electric field I am afraid no matter what we do I cannot see we can make it any more private, people will walk around the site no matter what and closing off any access from the aviation centre field is just not possible as this gives all our guests a lovely short cut through to the aviation museum, there is just no real way within planning permission and consent to make every plot 100% private and even if we could come up with an option that would also mean a very very sharp increase in per night stay which is not something we want to do at all.

Great pub campsite

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2025

Field very well laid out. Toilets and showers clean. Pub food very good. Quite close to the seaside towns, if that's what you want.

Pleasant and simple

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJun 2025

One-night stop mid-week in tent with two kids and dog. Quiet (which is what we wanted). Facilities clean, simple but adequate. No major road noise nearby and whilst there was some overhead jet flights, none at night. Good site security. There are lots of rabbits on the site, so droppings and holes might be noticeable. Would consider again.

Lovely place

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2025

Great place to camp. Love the cosy feel of the campsite. Quite away from the hustle and bustle of big towns and cities. I would recommend that the pitch is flatter without uneven surface .. otherwise top site.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Lovely site. peaceful and relaxing. Due to Bank Holiday, the bins were overflowing and pretty smelly. Toilets and showers could have done with some attention. Washing up station didn't have any hot water. However, we had a good time!

Site's response

Thank you for your review. I did go down and clear up the bins a couple of times over the weekend as one of the bins was empty, even though the others were over flowing. Unfortunately, this does sometimes happens, but has now all been fully cleared up and normal service has resumed. As for the hot water issue at the washing up sinks, this was not something we were aware of until after the weekend and has now been rectified - the water heater had tripped and repairs have now been completed and again, normal service has resumed. During busy times, the shower facilities do get abused and I'm afraid to say we are just not able to follow every single person and clean them after every use. They are cleaned every day but I'm afraid that they are abused by a small minority. Thank you.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Had a lovely couple of days here - ideally situated for the Wolds and not too far to the coast. Facilities were fine - nothing snazzy but we just needed basic. Plenty of hot water, toilet roll, soap etc. Clean wash up area if you needed it. The icing on the cake was the food and service in the pub. Excellent value for money, friendly, helpful staff (charged my phone for me as I'd forgotten my charger, and found some rizlas for my other half!), and friendly locals. If I had any to do thoughts for this small business, it'd be to just cut the grass on the pitches as the grass was quite long, but apart from that, it was all as we expected.

Was very impressed with this site, spacious kitchens, very clean, pub very friendly. Lovely little park area for kids. Very secure as the only way onto site is through a barrier.

Bumpy site, but cheap and cheerful

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesOct 2024

Loads of space, but slightly uneven ground, so had to pick my pitch carefully. Nice soft earth to peg out in, but my chair sank as I sat in it as a result. Need some blocks or bricks available to raise stoves off the ground and stop grass damage (and to stop my chair sinking). A bit noisy from the road and airplanes during the day, but not too bad. Comfortable and lovely birdsong in the morning. Not expensive and had all the right features.

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Grass Pitches Aug 2024

Used campsite while going to Cadwell park, great location for that as only 20 minutes away. Facilities are good but bin area needs a bit of TLC, a lot of rubbish laying around. Toilets and showers were clean, good walk to aviation museum if you have a dog.

Fab site, no complaints

A lovely quiet site. A great stop over point for moving further on or staying exploring the area. The attached pub is a bonus good food at decent prices. Made to feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Will definitely use this site again.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2024

A lovely place, well worth the money. The only down fall was that there was no hot water to wash the pots and pans at the washing station. Had to go back to the tent and boil a kettle, but that's not a problem only a down fall. My wife didn't like the camera in the toilets. I understand that you have to have this incase of vandalism, but this should be on the outside not inside. She felt like there was no privacy whilst taking a shower, as everyone can watch you in the pub on the screens. My wife has said all of that has put her off the campsite.
