Sunnyhill Campsite is on the edge of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, with the town of Wincanton on the doorstep and plenty to explore nearby. This small site lives up to its name, with stunning sunrises and sunsets, along with farm animals to meet, and a pop up cafe/bar for a bite to eat. Spacious grass and hardstanding pitches are available, as well as a yurt and a cosy shepherd's hut with a private wood-fired hot tub.

Why choose Sunnyhill Campsite

Half way between Plymouth and London surrounded by Somerset fields overlooking the woods

Pets corner, fire pits, pop up seasonal café/bar with occasional live music and access to footpaths

Camping and glamping on the Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire border with countryside views

About the site

Only two hours from London and easily accessible from the A303, and surrounded by incredible views, the small site offers a rural base within easy reach of top attractions. For tents and trailer tents, there are 10m x 9m grass pitches, plus 7m x 7m hardstanding pitches for caravans and motorhomes. All pitches allow up to six guests, each with a 16 amp electric hook up. If you prefer glamping, the hut can accommodate four guests with two singles and a high king-size bed with bedding supplied. There is a lovely mini kitchen set up and Belfast sink, just a short walk to the shower block and with your own private garden area, fire pit and not forgetting the log fuelled hot tub with this option. The yurt sleeps six and has its own caravan kitchen, fire pit, log burner inside and beds/bedding. The site also has enough chickens/ducks around to provide folks with fresh eggs, and in the covered area by the bar, there is an honesty shop with a few local things to buy, including logs, honey, eggs and a little local art. The old wheel rims can be used for fire pits around the site to help guests enjoy the view with some marshmallows toasting (can be purchased from the bar). The owners have collected goats, sheep, lambs, ponies/horses, and even pet cows, who all have their individual stories and characters, and guests can see many of them around the place The Jolly Farmer is a pop-up bar that is open weekends from April to September, fully licensed and with a small but tasty menu for breakfasts and evening bites. On select days, guests can also enjoy live music! Dogs are welcome on leads, but please ensure they are cleaned up after. There is a footpath across fields from the site as well as lots of lovely track and field walks around woods and rural farmland around the local area, generally a peaceful site to take a deep breath from the outside world.

Grass pitches are available from May until December, the Shepherd's Hut is open from May until October. The hardstanding pitches and yurt are available all year. Pitches from £35/night for 2 people (depending on dates). Glamping from £110-£130/night for 2 people (depending on dates, 2-night minimum).

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring PitchesSep 2026

The site is fairly highly rated, and whilst the view is absolutely lovely, one of the key requirements for me is cleanliness. The toilet/shower block is outdated (by decades) and the shower cubicles haven't had a thorough clean in a long time. It's been years since I last failed to have a daily shower, but I gave it a miss at this place. The low doors on the toilets were also disconcerting. The hosts were lovely, but it cost £30 for those poor facilities (luckily I was there only one night). The pitches and the site in general need a good tidy up. Whilst this site is absolutely not for me, the fairly high rating must come from people with other priorities. If you're there for the view, you'll love it. If you're there for tidiness and cleanliness then you probably don't want to head here. Each to their own, as they say.

Site's response

When I first read this review I was quite upset, as a sole trader and small independent who has worked hard for the last 8 years constantly striving to improve my lil place it does feel grossly personal when someone doesn't see the joy in it. On reflection I decided I should respond objectively to your review, so I have broken it down into sections and responded the best I can. You state: "The site is fairly highly rated, and whilst the view is absolutely lovely, one of the key requirements for me is cleanliness. The toilet/shower block is outdated (by decades) and the shower cubicles haven't had a thorough clean in a long time. It's been years since I last failed to have a daily shower, but I gave it a miss at this place. The low doors on the toilets were also disconcerting." In September I will accept that the shower block may well be fast approaching her annual paint and maintenance...however the decades out of date comment?? When I have spent over £2000 on a new flushing elsan point, put 4 new showers in this year, stone floored the path leading to the shower block and installed 2 stone sinks on a granite work top for undercover washing up area this year, I struggle to see this. The showers are cleaned daily in September by myself and checked a 2nd time each day too. The deep clean is weekly done by my daughter. I do not believe they weren't clean enough for you to use The toilet doors I concede...we replaced the men's doors with 4ft deep almost saloon style doors last winter, and you are not the first to not like them...they may change if I can cover the paint and maintenance in the 26/27 winter season. You mentioned: "The hosts were lovely, but it cost £30 for those poor facilities (luckily I was there only one night). The pitches and the site in general need a good tidy up. Whilst this site is absolutely not for me, the fairly high rating must come from people with other priorities." Indeed the facilities are not poor...you could use the communal undercover area to charge devices as you chose not to have ehu. There is even a log burner in there for duller days! Maybe you could have enjoyed a walk, the animals, the friendly resident community, the pop up bar...? As you say the view is magnificent and the facilities were all working and clean during your stay. You shared: "If you're there for the view, you'll love it. If you're there for tidiness and cleanliness then you probably don't want to head here. Each to their own, as they say." Each to their own indeed...what a shame that you cannot see the beauty of the place. We are a rural, rustic and friendly place in a gorgeous setting with fantastic views, small resident community, and many many returning guests love it here. Not liking us would have been fine...cannot please all the people all the time and all that, but I am saddened that you have totally slated something I have worked hard to build...and have now significabtly reduced my rating with your unfair review. I will post more pics of my shower block asap to demonstrate to others what to expect with my facilities.

Very charming

A note from the site themselves...

Sunnyhill Farm used to be my step Dad's family farm and has been in the family since 1940! My parents are now retired in Devon and I took over the campsite in 2018.

We work hard with a great team of colourful characters to create the Sunnyhill Campsites unique hidden gem, Goats, horses, chickens, ducks, cats and dogs add to the magical atmosphere in front of the most fantastic view.

The world is a crazy place, Sunnyhill likes to offer an alternative to that, and with the fantastic views central south West location and quaint local villages, I dont know why you would go anywhere else
