About the site

Enjoy this rural five-acre campsite, set 600 feet above sea level and with a great throwback vibe to the 1950's & 60's, but with essential modern services such as power showers, hair dryers, toasters & microwaves. Great for exploring the Buchan area, Banff & McDuff, Ellon, Turriff, Peterhead, and Fraserburgh, which are all just just 20-25 minutes away. Adventure seekers are also well placed to tackle the North Sea Cycle Route, directly accessible from the site, and climb the nearest mountain Bennachie, rising to the height of 1732 feet, before tackling the Cairngorms away in the distance. Choose from non-electric bivvy grass pitches for tents, or spacious 12m well-drained grass pitches with a 16 amp EHU, and water hook up, suitable for caravans, motorhomes, campervans, family tents, and trailer or rooftop tents. On site facilities include free site-wide WiFi, a launderette, a cosy Pavilion, and a secure two-acre dog exercise field. Be sure to explore the nearby coast, either North or East- both a short drive or cycle away; home to incredible beaches to the East, where you can spot both seals and dolphins, and is ideal for birdwatching, and rocky coves and cliffs to the North. Dogs are very welcome on-site, provided they are kept on their lead (unless in the dog exercise area). BBQs are permitted, please ensure they are raised off the ground and supervised by an adult. Fires in fire pits are allowed with permission from the owners.

East Balthangie Caravan and Camping Park is open from 01/01 to 23/12 in 2025 and from 05/01 to 23/12 in 2026.

Onsite, guests will find two women's toilets, two men's toilets, free power showers with no water limit, and a chemical disposal point. There is a camper's kitchen which includes a sink with hot and cold water, an electric kettle, a microwave, a table, chairs, and a Primus stove point outside.

You will also have access to a launderette with a washing machine (£3 per wash) and a dryer (£2 per wash). For dogs, there is a secure two acre exercise area. WiFi and a games room are available onsite.

If you fancy a bite to eat, head to The Earl of Aberdeen Arms and the Mustard Seed Cafe, within a ten minute drive. A local Costcutter and Food For Thought Deli is ten minutes away for camping essentials.

We aim to offer an enjoyable background for your stay, attentive but not intrusive, to set those future memories of a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and visit to the area. We have themed our campsite to reflect those happy camping days of the 1950's and 60's, but with all the modern equipment one expects in the modern era, such as power showers, hair dryers, microwaves, kettles, and toasters! Oh, and not forgetting the site-wide WIFI.

Arrival times are from 2 pm, with departure times before 11 am; however, we're not too strict here when the site is not fully booked. Stay a little longer, or arrive a little earlier- just let us know your plans!

Some rules we have to employ for everyone's enjoyment, safety, and to meet statutory legal requirements:

Children under 16 must not be left unattended in the Pavilion games Room, for instance, and we ask that quiet time be observed from around 10 pm.

Open fires are not allowed unless in a firepit- keep flames low & avoid smoke & sparks- do not use on windy days.

We aim to be quiet on site after 10.00 pm

Do not leave a vehicle driverless with the engine running

Enjoy outdoor ball games, but keep play well away from neighbouring pitches & blow for full time by 9 pm.

Start with a walk around our barley park, down to our burn 'Little Water', which is in fact the headwaters of the River Ythan. Then, take a peaceful walk through nearby Dalgety Castle Woods, or visit the Castle itself & enjoy the famous afternoon cream tea there..site is centrally placed for both the rugged rocky Northern coastline dotted with secluded sandy coves, or the vast expanse of the sand dunes on the Eastern coast, both ideal for dolphin and seal spotting, plus fabulous panoramic sea views.

Lovers of exploration can head to Duff House, a Georgian estate with interesting artefacts and art exhibits, Slains Castle, where Bram Stoker gained his inspiration to pen Dracula, the Scottish National Lighthouse Museum in Fraserburgh, Haddo House, Pitmedden Gardens, and many more local attractions, including the notorious Peterhead Prison Museum- well worth a lengthy stay there!

For outdoor adventure, hike the Bullers of Buchan (40 minutes) with scenic clifftop walks, a sea cave, and seasonal seabird colonies. Keen cyclists will love the North Sea Cycle Route, a long-distance cycling route that loops around the North, & connects with many cycleways that criss-cross the area, and are accessed directly from the site.
