About Harebeck Holidays at Thornbank Farm

The Lake District is the perfect location for getting out and exploring, and this site could be the ideal spot for your next trip. Being within easy reach of the coast, surrounded by wonderful walking routes and even just a 15 minute stroll from a pub, it is great for a relaxing getaway. For campervans, there are two 4m x 7m pitches and a further three 9m x 7m pitches for both campervans and caravans. All of the pitches come with a 16 amp electric hook up, welcoming up to four guests each. If you are more of a glamper, there are also plenty of options to choose from. The Owl Hoot Pod is ideal for a romantic getaway, sleeping up to two in a double sofa bed. Inside you will also have heating, along with a small table with fold up chairs. For cooking, there is also a kettle, toaster, slow cooker, toasted sandwich maker and a mini fridge for keeping your beers nice and cool. Outside you will also have a table and chairs on a sheltered decking, perfect for enjoying a glass of fizz as you admire the views. Also sleeping up to two guests is the Sheep Fold, a traditional shepherd's hut also equipped with a double sofa bed. Inside you will have underfloor heating, bedside tables, a table and chairs, along with a kitchenette with a mini oven, toaster, kettle, sandwich maker, slow cooker and mini fridge. Step outside and you will also find an alfresco dining area with binoculars provided as it is a great spot for watching the local wildlife! If you are travelling as a family, the two Romany Retreats can sleep four with a double bed with bedding and a small cupboard bed for up to two small children, eight years and younger. Please note, the small bed does not come with bedding. Each of the bow top caravans also comes with electric, along with lighting, a heater, a kettle, a toaster and a small mini fridge. The Romany Retreats are the only area where campfires can be lit. There is a tripod with cooking utensils and each unit is provided with a bag of wood, paper and kindling to light a fire. Extra storage can also be found outside in a water tight trunk, and a fridge/freezer can be found in the communal drying room. Guests can pitch a tent alongside the glamping units as an additional extra. Fire pits and BBQs are also allowed, so don't forget to pack the burger buns. Please note no electric BBQs are permitted. Dogs are also welcome, with up to one allowed on each of the pitches and in the Sheep Fold and Owl Hoot Pod. Sorry, the Romany Retreats are pet free.

A note from the site themselves...

The site is on a traditional working farm, owned and managed by Brian and Cathryn, Cumbrians born and bred (true Cumberland folk). The owners have an affinity with the fells and surrounding area. They have knowledge of smugglers coves and hidden beaches with folklore being passed down through the generations.

Like all locals, the owners are proud, friendly, resilient and optimistic leading a quieter life with placid cows, cosy cats and curious tenacious sheep. Don't forget to bring your wellies and ask for a tour around the farm, just ask the owners when onsite!

Çathryn and Brian are pleased to welcome visitors to their home environment where they not only care and nurture their own animals but wildlife too. They farm in a regenerative and sustainable way taking care of the land "living for today but farming for tomorrow" is their mantra. Their land is part of an environmental scheme where birds, bees, butterflies flourish alongside reptiles and mammals.

Traditional buildings are being transformed to help keep their family farming business sustainable along with renting land from other nonfarming landlords. They like to engage with visitors and love to impart their farming and countryside knowledge.
